  • bike for born again biker

    Hello friends
as the title suggests i'm born again bike at 34 because i used to ride a bike at 34 after that used only cars in between i used to have an RD sold it because i had no time to ride it. now i am really thinking to get a decent bike budget is around 2 lakh my main priority is comfortable seating position & good performance. i don't want a bike with seating position with your bum pointing south. Bike will be used in city. i'm 6'2" with 87Kg.

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

tempted to say duke 390 esp at your budget limit.for city use mileage will be an issue with the 390.honestly it needs a lil bit of space for us to extract full power; also suspension wise not the most comfy out there.
performance: you will not buy or consider another bike of lower specs like ever.once exposed to 390 power levels even duke 200 would feel like scooty.

Seating position in duke 390 is slanting position and will not be comfortable for a person of 6'2". Cruisers will work better. Also duke 390 will not work out fully for city traffic. Anything in RE stable or Bajaj stable will work better.

CBR 250 eyes closed it meets all your needs
if you can sacrifice on comfort then DUKE 390
or you can wait till auto expo and then decide which bike to buy because many new cool bikes are going to come in india next year ( am also waiting)
and you can see suzuki inazuma 250 its totally a new bike so cant say anything about it you can check the ride report of that bike here : http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/first-im...de-report.html

test drive all 3 machines and then decide all 3 are great bikes...whit there own character

Re: bike for born again biker

Who the heck wants a cruiser for city riding?
Get Duke 200 or 390. The seating should be okay for city rides. In India, sadly all performance bikes comes with hard seat and aggressive seating posture which are not suitable for our road condition. You can get a Ninja 300 but it would be way out of your budget.
Well, since you rode a RD earlier, only Duke 390 will quench your thirst for power.
            I am back!

Yea, agreed with the above, city riding is fun on Duke 200 as well as the Duke 390.
Duke 200 is more suited for city riding than D390.
CBR is good, but as yoh primiraly want something for city riding, Dukes are your best bet.

              Ride safe and have fun.

I will take that as, you do not like the Crouched position, so CBR is out. Since you need a bike for city riding, CBR is out again.

Duke 200 isn't a bad choice either, but since you mentioned comfort and for big(6.2ft) guy like you, i believe Duke would not provide you that comfort.

Then you have the Pulsar 200NS with an upright position, good power, comfort slightly better than the duke and has higher seating height, wouldn't be a problem for you.

I heard that Latest Karizmas are gonna launch soon, you can wait for them.

I personally believe an RE Classic 350/500 would do the job for you, decent power, comfortable, good for city and cruising. But the looks are of personal preference, if you are a fan of Retro Classic looks, go for the RE.

It's a lot like nuts and bolts - if the rider's nuts, the ride - bolts!

Looks like i have two or three options right now
                  1. Pulsar NS
                  2.Duke 390
                  3. RE Classic
as suggested i'll look forward to auto expo for some exciting bikes.pity bike manufacturers don't make performance oriented bikes with retro looks

None of the so-called "sporty" bikes would suit you. Dukes are no comfort machines. The 200NS is marginally better and upright. I see a glaring gap here - have you missed out the Thunderbird or have you deliberately left it out? I believe a TB350 should suit you perfectly (or a TB500, if you hit the highways once in a while) and it's definitely one of the most comfy bikes on sale currently, along with the Avenger.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

i was thinking about Classic & TB went to the RE showroom asked for a test ride. i was told "Bullet ki test ride kya lena yeh toh aise hi bikti hai aur hum kisi ko test ride nahi dete"
so turned off by their arrogance. may be i should try a different dealer or would take plunge with RD again.

Now, since you have included 200ns in your choices let me share my thoughts.

                        I am little taller than 6'1". I weigh 84 kgs. Ride a 200ns.
And Your requirement, if I have percieved correctly, is a bike which is comfortable, powerfull and intended to be used in city.

Now coming to above mentioned bikes, according to me, here follows my suggestions

duke390: is not very comfortable for me due to my height (knee rubs with tanks) and a overkill for city usage.

Classic: haven't ridden it extensively. It is pretty comfortable. But I feel overall it fares better on highway than in city.

Pulsar 200ns: I felt very comfortable from day one. Also I find it adequetly (more than needed for me) powerful for city usage. And except for long crawling traffic conditions, its extremely pleasurable to ride in city. Also I have done a few highway trips ranging from 150 to 400 kms in a day and I found it to be pretty comfortable.

So if you ask me out of these three, seeing you built and requirement I think 200ns is the best bet.

PS: I am a yamaha and honda fan from childhood and still I am more than satisfied with 200ns .

Re: bike for born again biker

I would not suggest an RE because of the poor quality and dumb ASS (After Sales Service).
I have experience of riding RE C350, C500, TBTS350, TBTS500, and Electra 350 (all UCE). I personally owned a TBTS350, but sold it under a year because of the problems I faced!

                          Putting RE out of question.

I am 6'1. A short take on your options from my perspective:

                          CBR250R:
Has a crouched position but not as crouched as an R15 or Ninjas, Still, have a test ride to see if it is OK with you. I own one and enjoy riding it in the city and on the highways, it's a pure bliss. It is very comfortable for me....

                          Dukes:
All dukes are mad-mad machines. They move swiftly in the bumper to bumper traffic situations. But, not comfortable. And with your height and weight, seriously, NOT COMFORTABLE. Not for long trips. (People have taken it to Leh, still, in India, we have a rule of "Anything goes anywhere")

                          P200:
Better in comfort than the Duke. Lesser fun than the Duke. A better option for you I guess.

I will recommend you to wait for the Suzuki Inazuma 250, it looks like a perfect one for you.
Hope it falls in your price range.

If you can't wait that long, test ride the bikes. Nothing is better than that.

Disclaimer: The above views are my own personal views, if anyone would like to bash me for them, PM me, don't OT here.

^^ Inazuma is certainly going to be a very good machine. But I fear it may not be priced competitively. But lets hope that it bears a justified price tag.
