  • Wanted help of xbhpians to select me a new bike.

Hi all xbhpians there. I was the silent follower of xbhp since past 5-6 years. At last decided to register and here I am. I want your help in selecting me a new bike. I am looking for a 150cc bike which should be comfortable, should give a good mileage and look decent as well. The bikes I doesn't want1. Suzuki GS150R- sold it in 3 months because of its heavy weight and high riding position.2. Honda Dazzler- bought second hand 2 months back and sold it recently cause bike was giving me lots of problem.3. Honda unicorn- ridden a lot on friends uni. Bike is exellent butter smooth but somehow I find it bori ng and also I doesn't like its looks. My budget is between 80k-90k. Also I will take my bike for occasional touring. Any good bikes coming this year? At present I am riding my 10 year old splendor plus. Please help me.THANKS in advance

You seem like you are confused on what you want. Try to first decide on how much usage you are going to make and what is your primary needs like fuel efficiency (you ride more than 50km a day), comfort, pickup, look, handling, etc. Here's a list of vehicles you can think for the budget you mentioned. GS150R was on top of the list but since you say its heavy and ruled out even Unicorn as you did not prefer it, the remaining list of bikes are as follows on order of priority:

      1. Yamaha FZ : +ve: Excellent handling, grip, looks, digital odometer, low seating, superb suspension. -ve: fuel efficiency, rear tyre gets punctured easily.
      2. Hero CB Extreme: +ve: Same as Unicorn, -ve: chain sprockets dont last long, some complaint of starting trouble.
      3. Pulsar 150: +ve: digital display, alloy handle bars, looks. Bike really doesnt have a very durable life, but for the price it delivers what people expect from it, a good pickup, braking and mileage.
      4. Yamaha SZR: +ve: cheaper, good look and ergonomics, light weight, durable -ve: tyres dont give good grip but last very long life, fuel efficiency is around 45kmpl, gears are clunky and not smooth.
      5. Honda Shine: +ve: mileage, simple usage like your splendor with a little better pickup. -ve: Price is close to 150cc SZ bike, many complaints on bike starting trouble and gear shift.

If you can extend your budget a little, you can check out TVS RTR 180 ABS. The bike is excellent in build quality, power, handling and braking. Only negative is that service centers dont listen to your issues of bike properly and some dont like the 2013 variant. We all are waiting for the new 2014 version upgrade. But since there is no news or spy shots of any tvs bikes being tested, I cannot tell you for sure it will come any time soon.

        Consider RTR.

Thank you for a quick approval. My daily commute would be around 30-40 km so mileage should be around 50 kmpl.Fz is a good bike but pillion seat is a problem also mileage is on lower side.Sitting position of APACHE RTR is bit sporty. I doesn't want back aches and wrist pain on long rides. My priorities are-1. Comfort2. Mileage3. Looks4. Hassle free maintainance.I am a sedate rider and quite passionate about touring. Is there any good 150cc bike launch this year.Should I wait for 3-4 months or go for current available options.

That's what's we call a perfect bike. But as far as i know there is nothing like that. If you want to gain something you surly have to loose something.

Just my thought. Take TDs of all bikes. Talk to your friends who own it. And decide.

            Best wishes bro

Did you check out CB Trigger?
It has the same engine as Dazzler (14bhp as opposed to 13.3 bhp of Unicorn). The problems you faced with Dazzler should be due to abuse thrown to it by the previous owner.
These 150cc bikes need a little more care than our good old Splendors, so buying a used one is always a gamble!

Trigger has Less weight(below 140 kg) and good ride comfort and above all mileage of 50kmpl+...

Regarding new launches - Hero has already unveiled the refreshed XTreme though not yet arrived in showrooms. You can see it here - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post998975
But, since you disliked GS for its tall ride position and weight, I think neither Hunk/XTreme will suit you.

Actually GS is one of the good 150cc bike and should be ideal for touring due to its weight, ride comfort, 6th gear, mileage....

So only Trigger is the option left out to you I think.

Re: Wanted help of xbhpians to select me a new bike.

Actually I doesn't disliked GS150R. I had driven it till 100 kmph the bike was super smooth, no vibrations at all and road grip was exellent. In my opinion I found GS150R better than DAZZLER and UNICORN. The only thing is that the bike was not suitable for me because of never ending MUMBAI traffic.
I have also checked out CB TRIGGER but personally I doesn't like it. Dazzler's speedo console was way better than that of Trigger, switch gear has been straight away ripped from Dream Yuga or Shine I think and fitted to the trigger, tail light reminds me of Bajaj Discover. Such quality switch gear on a 80k bike does honda think we are fools, TIME TO CHANGE HONDA.

If you're concerned about switch gear - do you know even the CBR150R that costs 1.3 lakhs has the same switch gear as of Trigger?

You can check out FZ then, it is heard that new FZ's give around 45kmpl mileage. Also new ones have better seats as well.
FZ's good low end torque, suspension and light weight design is ideal for city riding.

I know that switch gear is not the priority and there is always an option of changing it but still doesn't expected this from Honda.
Can someone give me the list of bikes(150cc-200cc) coming this 2014.

You are mistaken, the new FZ has much wider rear seats, it definitely gives you 45+ mileage provided you keep a tab on the air in your tyres and ride sedately.

Dude I am planning on buying a GS150 in next month's salary. I am in Bangalore and traffic is horrible here too. Should I go for this bike or not? I am not a speed freak and I will be happy if it gives better pickup than Unicorn. Kindly tell and help me out of the dilemma.

Hey friend Prathappa, 0-60 pickup of GS150R is on the lower side but after 60kmph its a beast. Initial pickup of Unicorn is better than Gs150r else it is a good bike with good mileage (50kmpl approx), vibration free smooth ride and very attractive looking speedo console. Also consider height and weight of the bike. My height is 5 feet 8 inch and I was not able to plant my both feet on the ground comfortably and weight of the bike is 150kg. This is the only reason I have to sell my bike. In my opinion Unicorn will give you good value for money (Hassle free maintainance, easy availability of spare parts and good resale value). I suggest you to take the test ride and than decide. BEST OF LUCK.
