  • Need help regarding getting a new( or used maybe!!) bike

Hello guys, I have just sold my R15 V1 as these days I think my back is not getting too much comfortable riding a r15. And also I think I need something powerful but whenever I drive my cousin's ZMR or CBR 250, I feel these bikes are not as smooth as the R15. I've been spoiled by the smoothness of the r15 but I need something which has more outright power than the r15 and the riding posture should also be a bit upright and comfortable. And regarding NS and Duke, the short gearing just doesn't please me as I ride in the highway most of the time and I don't like the engine screaming whenever I touch triple digits. Somehow I feel the Karizma R is more smoother than ZMR, but I've always ridden a relatively older zma and a newer ZMR so the older zma must have been smoother with much usage as Hero engines tend to get smoother with age. Please suggest a bike that has good low end torque, should be smooth to ride without vibs, fuel economy can be compromised but shouldn't be less than 30, and should be a full dc bike for lighting upgrades.
Just for info, the bikes that I've owned till date are - Suzuki AN125, Suzuki GS150R, Suzuki Access, Hero CBZ extreme (dual discs), Yamaha FZS and Yamaha R15.
(I think I should cross the 150cc barrier now..)

Thinking of getting a used zma for some time to test how comfortable it can be for my regular trips..would it be worth???

Actually budget is not a constraint but I fear I might not like the bike after purchase, thus thinking of getting a used one for some time and if i like it, I'd go with a new one. And the other thing is, I've heard that zma doesn't give a good mileage compared to zmr. I've heard zma gives less than 30 as reported by some users here. But I'm not sure how much true it is. So more confused.

You should check the zmr thread, some are getting 50+ km/L with sane riding. So 40-45 km/L should be normal.
As for not liking the bike, well you can't be happy about everything. But go for the one which ticks max number of your requirements. The auto-expo might give you some more options.

          Ride safe and have fun.

If you are not wiling for NS or other options and as you said you like the Karizma, I say go for it. . . Getting a FE of 30 kpl on a Karizma is the cause of not taking care of the bike and no proper oil change intervals. . . The first version without any graphics, that's really good, still runs beautifully. . . Search it, you'll get it. . .

About the CBR250R, indeed it's really a comfortable bike which you can go for, I don't know what extra sound you hear from it. . ? The ZMR too is a good option, you might get it for around 45k or more, depending on the condition and the year of manufacture. . .

NS is way better than R15, it performs well and handles well too. . . It's not what you think, you can ride it in the highways at three digits all day long with no problem and it's comfortable too, only problem will be the windblasts, for which now after market windshields are available, you can have a look at them if you are going. . .

            Cheers!!!

have u ever considered the hero HX250r? looks promising on paper too. suzuki inazuma also is here. more bikes coming in if you want higher than 150cc. not sure how good they are, test ride or ownership experience is needed from someone, but you will have to wait a long time for that.

                guys,

I just noticed he is from Nepal and in Nepal, the bikes cost a bomb.. so i guess suggesting something that is nominal would be good.

@TS, if you feel that you might not like that bike, why buy it. I mean, try and take your friend's Karizma for a week or so and see how you like the bike. if you like it, go ahead and get it. if not, test ride the other bikes.

Definitely the Karizma is a VFM. except when you ride it insane, the bike gives FE below 30 for sure.. as for ZMR, I own one and I am a happy owner.

Oh yes I too noticed now, remember in some news that the TVS Phoenix or something similar was launched in Nepal at a price tag of around 1.15 lac . . .

                  Yes 1.15 Lac, I even made a joke about it . . .

Anyways to the TS, as said by you and me, former owner and former rider of Karizmas , it does seem like a good option. ..

                  Cheers!!!

Yes the long wait is putting me off as the sales in india itself will start after some good 6-7 months and here in Nepal it usually arrives after almost 3 months of sales there... So it'll be like forever waiting for a bike... Moreover the govt and the importers here are almost mad. Because they don't bring in better products. Like the aviator here doesn't come with alloys and discs, same with wego no discs available, no new models from hero stable since hero - honda breakup like the maestro, impulse, ignitor etc. So waiting doesn't make sense at all..

Yes after numerous test rides, I too am getting inclined towards the ns for its new techs and good engine (i miss the fi though). A new ns costs INR 171875 here and i'm getting a used ns 12000 kms run for INR 118000. Is this a good deal?

They have to import it from India in-fact, when I had been to Kathmandu. Everyone stared at my friend's RE. The RE there costs a bomb.. somewhere around 4,00,000 Nepal Rupees.

A bolt from the exhaust fell off from his bike and guess how much they charged for a small bolt! 50/- INR.. damn.. and when we tried to negotiate, they simply said take it or leave it..

Great suggestions and nice discussion actually... absolutely stumped by the prices in Nepal...

ZMR - fantastic milage, ultra smooth, touring ride position, quiet and potent at even high rpms. Also super dependable.

NS200 - naked aggressive looks, higher rpm engine, dependable.

Also if the only reason you left out CBR was due to smoothness, a change in its engine oil from the company made 20w-40w synthetic to a good 10w-40w synthetic might change your opinion. I agree it has that slight pre growl at around 6.2k rpm before you head north of it where it gets velvet smooth, but the oil change in my bike eliminated even that.

Anyway, ZMR and the NS however are superb options for your upgrade - its probably a choice between an aggressive or a relaxed form of riding style... i dont mean riding position... i mean riding style.

Hoping to congratulate you soon on your new ride on the thread...

                            Cheers.
