  • Touring purpose bike within 80k

    Hi.. Arnab's here.
Please let me know about a bike that could meet my purpose well. I'm 22, have a budget around 80k.
I like long rides on bike and will have two or three 500-1000 kms tour each year, beside some shorter ones. On highways my machine should allow me continuous 80-120 kmph speeds with no disturbance or vibes. I won't mind taking well care of my bike and in return it should serve me too and I won't like to compromise with frequent engine noises. Mileage wise I expect somewhat around 40 kmpl. I have shortlisted some bikes like FzS, pulsar180 and few other, and especially Pulsar attracts me more. Give your logical and wise suggestions.

Is there any <80k bike which can do 120 kmph for a prolonged period, without undue stress?
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

increase your budget by 15000 and get a 200ns or 220f....they can cruise near 100kmph.....otherwise no such bike under 80k can meet your requirment...

Sorry to burst your bubble mate. There isnt a bike within 80K which would do 120kmph without any stress.
Heck, even even the Pulsar 220 and 200NS would feel stressed, when ridden continuously at 120kmph.
The bike that you have listed, FZs - This one struggles at 100 and the top speed itself is around 115kmph (120kmph - which, not everyone manages to acomplish)
But this would stress out the engine terribly, this includes the Pulsar 180 as well.

And expecting a bike with no vibrations at 120kmph? All the single cylinder bikes (within 1.5lakhs), currently found in india vibrate at 120kmph. This "might" include the Duke 200 as well.
If you want a bike (single cylinder) which would be vibe free at 120kmph then you might have to go for the bikes like CBR250 and obviously the Duke 390.

Hence, my suggestion to you would be to increase your budget and go for bigger CCs.
Else, lower your expectations and buy the FZ / P180 / Apache 160 and ride them at speeds 80-100kmph. (without stressing them)
It's a lot like nuts and bolts - if the rider's nuts, the ride - bolts!

Re: Touring purpose bike within 80k

Yes, as others mentioned, no 80k price tag bike can cruise at 120kmph. 200Ns can cruise @110kmph all day and allows short bursts of 120-130kmph without any fuss.

If your budget is restricted to ~80K, then take a test ride of FZ16 and GS150R. Both these bikes can cruise comfortably @90-100kmph without vibration. Honda Trigger is also good in this aspect. You will have substantial vibration in Apache and Pulsar 180 at this speed.

You are not getting any bike that will fit your budget with those requirements. In other words, you get what you pay for. Look at GS150R, P180 might do the job but you will have to take good care of it.

Even if you have a CBR 250 riding it continously at 120 km/hr would be very tough.. the ride would manage it well but the drag would tire you really fast.

As everyone else pointed out, your budget is low for such a machine. Buy a second hand, less than an year, karizma and fulfill your dream.

Not less than 80k but slightly more, ZMA is the best bet. Its pretty smooth even at 100-110 kmph...add to it Motul and the bike smooth as butter. This is coming from a zma ex-owner. Though maintaining 120kmph on Indian road even the highways is not possible. May be for some distance it fine but not for long. Never owned a Pulsar, so cannot comment.

I am reading "suggest a bike that can do 100+ km/h all the day...." many places in xbhp. Note the speed limit in various states.
Speed limits in India - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From what I read above and various sites, anything above 80kmph(that too on NH's) is illegal for a two wheeler.
But do correct me if I am wrong.

XBHP being a forum that doesn't promote any illegal things, why there is no moderation on discussions like these?

vibration is an obvious issue for apaches but not for pulsars, at least my experience with friends' bikes says that.

Though I am not a speed freak but have reached the top speed of 117 kmph

Well Pulsar has no vibes if you compare to Apache, but it is not as refined as the Yamaha/Honda/Suzuki.

Choose according to your riding style:

FZ16 or GS150: Very refined even at their top-ends. FZ is the better one in city, but on highway GS scores better.

P180: Fun to ride bike and powerful compared to the above 2, but not as refined.

Taking advice is good, but only a test ride will help you make a decision.

If you can wait till Diwali, probably the new Pulsar 180NS, Suzuki Gixxer (155cc) and the new FZS will available
