  • Which bike to buy?

    Hi all,

I am planning to buy new bike so I need suggestions from you guys. I am currently using Honda Unicorn 2006 model (spokes wheel version). Always loved this bike for it's smooth engine but at the same time hated it for it's bad quality rear mono shock. The suspension has become so hard that it makes me feel as if I am riding on bicycle with Honda engine. I know about it's hard and soft settings and have already tried adjusting it. Well, let's not discuss about it here as there are already some threads available online where people have discussed the same issue.

In the past I have used Hero Honda CD 100 and Hero Honda Splendour. So I am someone who likes to ride bike with smooth engine. I was thinking about TVS Apache RTR 180 but when I started reading different reviews about this bike I found out that many people are talking about it's engine vibrations when bike crosses 60Kmph. The threads which I read are all old ones so I wish to know if TVS Apache RTR 180 still has this problem.

Another options I am thinking about are Hero extreme- sports which hasn't released yet and Suzuki GS150r. Suzuki GS150r has positive reviews everywhere so I feel it's a very good bike. But I find it's design very simple as compare to other bikes in the market.

So basically I am confused between these 3 models.

    Please help!

    -Thanks

      Re: Which bike to buy?

I am ready to spend 80,000 to 90,000 and I intend to use this bike while going to work and ocassionally for long rides. The distance between my home and office is 10km and I take western express highway in Mumbai for travelling. The point where I leave highway and take turn to catch another road which goes to my office building is very bad and it has many potholes. So I am looking for bike which has good suspension quality.

Good suspension, ehh that can be tricky. My advise
        As per budget.
        1.<80k, get gs150r.
2.80-90k get Rtr180 abs or fz
3.99K-get p200ns and be assured of not regretting in at least 3-4 years about looks and power in your hand.

RTR 180 abs has good reviews but people are talking about the vibrations from engine when bike crosses 50-60kmph. And I am sure such vibration will help loosen all the fiber glass body parts. Can somebody please tell me if this bike still has this issue?
Bajaj 200ns has amazing looks and power but it's not fitting in my budget

            Re: Which bike to buy?

If your sole intention is city riding, go for Yamaha FZ. Good low end torque, no issues in handling stop-go traffic, mileage might be a concern for you (30-35kmpl).

Apache is a good bike. It has aggressive stance, which is not comfortable for many folks, wrist starts paining after sometime. If you can live with the vibes, go for it.

Suzuki GS150r is a good bike, additional 6th gear makes the engine feel less stressed on the highway. But, the bike being on heavier side, driving in city will be a task. Also, in traffic conditions, it is a pain to ride heavy bike. After sales of suzuki isn't upto the mark. Although you stay in Mumbai, i haven't seen many Suzuki showrooms around (the one i knew in suburbs has shut down). A new bike is also coming from Suzuki stable named Gixxer.

            Other options:
            1) Honda CB Trigger.
            2) Hero CBZ.

Do take a TD nefore finalising.

            Cheerz!!
The real beauty lies in throttle's twist!!

Headlight can be replaced, Head cannot be. Wear a helmet.

I heard that Pulsar150NS & 180NS are also coming to market very soon. So if you like the Pulsar 200NS but doesnt fit in your budget than you can buy its younger siblings

                Re: Which bike to buy?

Honda CB Trigger's suspension is on stiffer side so it's not in my wish list
I am waiting for Hero CBZ extreme sports version which was supposed to come in market this month

check out this video which I found on youtube
                Hero Xtreme Sports - YouTube

                ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

I don't see many Pulsar 200NS on the Mumbai rods even though the bike looks amazing. I guess price is the only issue here. If Pulsar comes in 150 & 180cc version with lower price then I am sure more people are going to buy it.

Can someone share his experience with CBZ extreme.

I was gonna say FZ, until i watched the above video.
I would say "wait for it" !!
Xtreme sports indeed looks killer, if even you are smitten by the video, i would say wait for sometime until its released.
Excluding Xtreme, if mileage is not a concern, Fz would fit your bill..
It's a lot like nuts and bolts - if the rider's nuts, the ride - bolts!

Just had conversation on the phone with Hero dealer and he said CBZ extreme sports will come in next 2-3 days.

@ Prajwal- can't wait till late July or August. Thanks for the advice though

If you are tired of stiff suspensions, none of the Japanese are going to satisfy you, since all Fz, Trigger, GsR, and even Extreme has stiff suspensions. Go and test drive a pulsar 180. Its a good combination of power and mileage. Besides its softer and thicker suspensions, The sitting stance is neither much aggressive nor much commuterish, thus provides a relaxed feel. 180 would be a good power upgrade over your Unicorn, while economial as the same almost, and it has almost zero vibrations.

Yes, 180 has way too much softer and butt friendly suspension w.r.t. ns, duke, etc
