  • Confused between performance & comfort..

Hello team xbhpians...This will be my first post on this happening community of bikers. I have been reading posts day and night ever since I decided on buying a new bike for myself. I'm planning to buy the bike in the coming month on the 6th of June 2014.

I currently own a CBZ Star.. I love the bike and has been with me from.the last 6 years. Today when I see new bikes on road, my conscious kicks in and is leaning me towards upgrading to a new fancy bike. My budget is 1 lac. I want something that can excite me for the next 5 years atleast.

I have read many comparison posts. But I am confused with what i exactly want and so would need help from.the experts. I visited the Bajaj showroom and seen the p220 and p200NS. I first was keen on buying the p200 NS. But somehow I'm not convinced with the brand Bajaj. I have heard mixed reviews on it.

    My basic requirements are:
    1. Good pick up and handling

    2. Minimum 180 cc as I need a little more power coming from a 150 CBZ

    3. Good build quality and not something that looks eye candy but gets damaged when you use it.

    4. I'm not concerned about fuel efficiency as I drive a Polo and the bike would just be used during the weekends for a general commute. For fun basically

    5. I'm more concerned about maintainence as I prefer to have good service centers unlike Bajaj or hero who have a few unskilled people who fix your bikes and create a mess out of something that was perfectly fine before you went in for service. I have experienced that on my CBZ and it worries me.

These are the major points that I'm looking for when buying a bike. Also to say I'm a very careful kinda guy and I really take care of my bike. My height is 5'11. Weight is 88.

Your feedback is highly appreciated and necessary for me in choosing a good bike. Thanks u all.

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Hey, there won't be any bike that would continue to excite you for the next 5 years

Nonetheless, lets see what options you have. For a budget of 1L, there are not many bikes about 150cc. There is Apache, P220 and P200ns. But these you have already rejected.

Would suggest you one thing, if this bike is only going to be used for weekend fun, try to increase the budget and get Duke 200. It would be fun to ride and performs really well.

      Ride safe and have fun.

@ nadz. 11 - Mate I haven't rejected any bikes. I'm just unsure about Bajaj as a brand nothing else. Would really opt for one if it is really one heck of a bike

If all you are looking for is weekend fun ride then don't change your bike, get it modded- add a diff exhaust, get some new sprockets, change jets. This will keep you occupied and if you do it in stages you will keep the excitement.

You are quite right about Bajaj. Even its most expensive bikes go kaput as early as 3 years.
If you can extend your budget go for KTM Duke.
You can also check out R15. Its 150 cc but the power and torque is much more than your current bike, and its a eye candy.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Reliability depends on how you maintain a vehicle more than 'BRAND'.
I have a 11 years old pulsar done more than 125000 kms and still going strong.

If u take care than it will easily last more than 5 years btw i have bajaj discover 135 sports edition purchased on 12-12-2007 still perform as good and good mileage only the clutch plates changed at 25000km...due to my mindset..point to be noted that i have redline it on every day in 1,2,3,gears till it tops out and than put 4 gear 105kmph speed and completed 49659km till date very good product from bajaj.....every thing is depend on how can u maintain u r bike...it always win races with pulsar 150 upto 2010 model with ease and my friend pulsar 2010 150.gets engine work done after 22000km....he always rides like me but not maintain the bike.....and the splendor engine produces a lot of noises when my friend usee it like me for about 10000km.....

Don't do any mods on the bike. The reliability is main thing. You don't want to spend the weekends at the mechanics. Buy a new bike.

                  Ride safe and have fun.

I am not sure what to reply as only 200NS and 180RTR comes to my mind under 1lacs. I feel R15 would be best for you or else extend budget and get a Duke.

Pulsar 200 ns isn't a pulsar you know for quality issues. ..
Talk to owners, the refinement and gear shift, vibes, performances is like decade ahead of p150,180,220 .

You can also look at bullet 350 costing around 115000 on road and best comfort and mileage of 35-45 kmpl city and highway.120kmph top speed.

Re: Confused between performance & comfort..

Thanks a lot for the reviews. I'll look out for duke today... Really appreciate the feedback... Has anyone here owned a p220 or a NS... Or riden one... For me the 200 NS feels really good quality and technologically ahead... I was just doubtful about the brand which has been cleared too...I agree that maintaining your bike will make it last forever.

I checked the apache 180 yesterday, it was kinda short for me and felt as if I could get a backache if I do long rides over it... I'll check out the Yamaha R15 and duke 200 today... Thanks once more...

You may consider Bullet 350 twin spark also if it is not about mileage and weekend fun. Though my colleague uses the same for daily commuting.

Dude I have a 18 year old splendor, and a 24 year old chetak and they still works like charm. Do you think they work without any maintenance. I agree that bajaj was at its best till 2008. but after that its gone downhill. dont go any further, just read the ownership reviews of bajaj vehicles on this site and you'll be shocked about the kind of problems bajaj owners face.
