  • Ktm Duke 390/200 or CBR 250R

Hey Guys, I have been following this forum for a while now. I am planning to buy a new bike this month itself.

I am very much confused with my choices right now.

My budget is some where between 1.5L to 2L(Max).

The options which I have is KTM DUKE 390, KTM DUKE 200 and CBR 250R

My height is 5.7" and weigh some where around 60Kg(fairly slim).

Currently I own a CBZ Extreme which I bought 7 years back in Bangalore and did so many trips in and around karanataka, kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Right now I am staying in Delhi , general purpose of the bike would be for commuting between office and home and occasional trips in/outside Delhi.

    1) KTM DUKE 390: The reviews of Duke 390 made it my obvious choice but considering the amount of traffic in Delhi, I just don't think that I will be able enjoy this bike or even justify my purchase, but you don't often get such bike for just 2L in India and this has made me further confused. I did a test ride in Lajpat Nagar but there was lots of traffic and I was not even able to take the bike in 4th gear which I feel will be very common in my daily commute.

    2) KTM DUKE 200: Read the reviews and I find this bike more suitable for my needs, but when I compare this with DUKE 390, it makes me feel like I am over paying for a 200cc bike, since I can get a DUKE 390 for just 50k extra. Look wise they both look almost the same, So that's not an issue but added features like ABS does make a difference (may not be required in my case but still).

    3) CBR 250R: I haven't got the chance to ride this bike as of yet, but I do like full faired bikes and I like the look of this bike. Read reviews and everything, I know it is a cruiser and may not be very comfortable in stop and go traffic of Delhi but just putting this also as an option.

Please provide with your opinions, I seriously need some help with this.

Also if there is anything more you would like to know from me, please do ask.

Duke 200 is certainly a right choice for your requirement.

It's a true city bike and also do hi way runs really well...

Having used D200 for 2 year & Just upgraded to D390. I still miss the 200 in city.

Duke 200 would be the right choice for city rides . I personally found it more fun way more fun then the D390 which needs more longer stretches of roads to unleash itself .
Duke 200's torque starts way earlier around 2k mark whereas D390's starts after 4.5~5k rpm so you have to be careful with shifts. If you are looking for a calmer beast go for 390 but if you want crazy little maniac go for 200 .
Looking at your requirement D200 makes more sense, will you give you better mileage and all the fun you ever need in city rides . CBR is much more smoother and comfortable then both the dukes but when it comes the fun factor, that rush , doesn't stand anywhere near dukes.

for 5.7 and 60 kg weight.. CBR no ways in city.. you'd end up stressing your thighs and arms every now and then...
get either of the Duke.... its a damn good bike..

I don't know why but I just can't get my mind wrap around Duke 200.

I will finalize it within this week, and will let you all know about it.

Look at the inzuma 250 twin cylinder 250cc extremely comfortable bike and no.1in quality costing around 2.40-60lakh.extremely reliable bike. Otherwise cbr250 for engine quality and high speed on the highway with little wind as compared to the naked bikes.

Get the cbr 250.it has more pickup and top speed as compared to duke 200.u will enjoy crusing on the highway with comfort both rider and the pillion.

If you are not speed loving boy then you should also test ride the new zmr....costing within 118000...on road...top speed is 129kmph...u also save money and get better mileage.

I didn't knew that buying a new bike would be this confusing

Is the Duke 200 reliable? It was not much around 6 months back. I'm not sure what's the situation now though. Else, go for the CBR250. Its the most loved model worldwide. A legend in its own right.!

I never had any problems with my duke 200 which is around 7 months old now . Maybe CBR has a tad better acceleration and top speed but when it comes to flick-ability, especially in delhi's traffic, CBR is no where near it (it's much much heavier than duke ) . For city rides duke is better and personally I have found it comfortable to cruise also , but a nightmare for pillion rider especially ladies .

I was in the same boat as you are right now, totally confused . Took several test rides of these bikes P-150-180-220-200NS, CBR-250,R-15-YZF, Activa : P but finally settled for Duke 200 and living happily with it . You have narrowed down your search to two awesome bikes , so don't worry, whatever you choose would be awesome . Btw where in Delhi are you ?

Thanks for the suggestion mate.. I have been quite busy this week, haven't got the chance to test ride both the bikes.

Hopefully by this sunday, I will be finalizing and buying one of the two

and I stay in Jamia. Opting for Lajpat nagar showroom for both KTM and HONDA,
