Re: Daily Commuting And extensive City and Highway Riding. Which Bike..?

I will give you a little list about the bikes. bajaj...you say you are not looking forward to the pulsar.. So bajaj is out...the engine of pulsar 200ns is feels like a Honda and more important stress free.
@hero...look at xtreme honda...look at trigger Tvs...apache 160 Suzuki... Gs150 yamaha...no yamaha considering. Mileage.

You will get everything in a Yamaha but mileage will be the lowest in class(I'm a Yamaha user myself)!
Extreme is a good choice. But for your height, GS 150 will be better and the 6th gear will be a boon in highways and will also aid in better mileage. Just make sure you have a Suzuki SC nearby.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

If you want to zoom in cities Gs 150 won't provide you that excitement, the accelaration of the suzuki's GS150 is lethargic and you will feel as if you are riding a 100cc bike, but once on the move bike is fine, will give you good mileage with the presence of overdrive 6th gear, riding posture is very comfortable.

On the other hand you can also look out for 200ns, suitable for your height above 150cc engine quite powerful, riding posture is good, mileage you will get 40 to 45 km/l if you ride it properly.

Re: Daily Commuting And extensive City and Highway Riding. Which Bike..?

Like you have mentioned the Hero Xtreme is a good candidate. The new bike looks better, has a Honda designed engine, spares should not be a problem, has decent comfort and needless to say Hero has decent service. Xtreme however has slightly lesser fuel efficiency compared to other 150cc bikes in the market(except FZ). FE varies from 40-50kmpl. In my opinion decent riding should yield 45kmpl. The bike has fantastic acceleration. Pulls decently even with a pillion. Hero bikes generally have decent handling and should not be a handful to ride around city. I believe 80 kmph is not a big deal for the Xtreme.

Yamaha FZ can do almost everything above but FE will only be around 40kmpl. Added to this yamaha's pathetic service pulls down the FZ as a contender for your requirements.

Suzuki GS150R was a hit when it launched, but post sales support and service has been poor thus I would suggest you to stay away from Suzuki. (Don't get me wrong, the product is still fantastic)

TVS Apache RTR 160 is a good city bike. (Very) Cheap spares, decent service, decent looks and good FE(45-50 is what I have heard). Has good acceleration. However, on the highway the bike feels stressed and needless to say about the vibrations problem post 5500rpm which must be around 70-75kmph on 5th gear.

Now the only other option is Honda Dazzler. Shares the same engine as in the Xtreme. Definitely a great product and a worthy competitor to the Xtreme. If you have a good Honda ASC, this bike could suit you.(Mind you, spares could be an issue both cost wise and availability).
I could suggest the Unicorn but post 80 the bike is stressed and with a pillion it gets worse. Comfortable bike to ride though.

Test ride the Xtreme, Dazzler, RTR and Unicorn(if you find it OK).

Being a long term Hero user, I can confirm that maintenance is really cheap fro Hero vehicles, the service centers are fairly good and the vehicles are hassle free and have a long life.

Reading your post I thought you said no to 150/180cc bikes. Well a ZMR has good mileage for a vehicle of its class. Roughly >45 kmpl on the highway if not ripped like there's no tomorrow. For that matter, P220 has a respectable mileage too.

For your requirements, look at RTR 180 ABS.

Firstly the drawbacks:FzS- low mileageTrigger- Low saddle hight, a small bikeUnicorn- looks simpleApache- lack of comfortGs150r- lacks performance in city traffic for lack of low end power and torquePulsar- maintenance hustleExtreme- The 2014 version looks little toyishBut you are a tall guy and You will definitely find Extreme comfortable for you- it has good suspensions and good mileage. Most of all you've liked it personally. Go for it eyes closed; prefer the double disk version.

If you can live with the vibes and aggressive stance, go for it. One heck of a bike. Take a TD of both bikes and see what you are comfortable with.

Cheerz!!

You say, quick city riding and good speed on highways plus a good mileage to boot => Pulsar 150
