• The Duke 200??

Hey Bike-Gurus,

Need pro advise on my next bike..

My uses -

99% City maybe 1% highway on the outskirts..

I'm 5'11" (Almost 6), ~79 KGs, From the city of Hyderabad.

I work the night shift, so I'll go to the office evening and drive home early morning.

Distance between home and office : ~21KMs

I'll be coming from a Honda Unicorn (2005) to this new beast.

The Questions :

Do I have any alternatives that might just suit me? (I know about the CBR, R15 etc.. need final opinions in case this doesn't suit my height )

Mom n dad want me to take a 'normal' bike (Splendor, CBZ, Unicorn type) coz if I get married, to have a comfortable pillion. (This is where exactly pillion comes into picture)

However, I'll be riding it all alone 90% of the time unless rarely a friend will tag along.. (Marriage is a distant issue)

I'll be riding her for about 7 years at least. so currently, pillion is not a priority for me (it is for my parents & they will never sit with me)

and my dad's budget is within 1 lac. I am pestering him to come to 1.5 coz I already have a 150 cc and I want an upgrade don't want a same cc bike, coz it doesn't make sense to me at least.

Finally, No Pulsars No RE.

One last query,

As I ride the bike during early morning in Hyderabad (Inner Ring Road), there's a lot of trucks, I'll be driving pretty fast and overtake them on the flyover (Begumpet, Patny etc..) so it will be pretty close quarters. The question is (my biggest phobia) in case of puncture what do I do?? This scares me coz I have seen many people getting their skull crushed under the tires of various trucks and heavy vehicles.

(I'm the only son don't want to break their hearts and they don't want to give me a car coz if I crash it, it will incur heavy expenditure)

I'm also under the plan of purchasing a helmet, jacket and gloves..

Hope this helps..

live long.. live happy.. that's the best revenge that can be served to the people who hate you..

A word of caution there! The way you have written about the overtaking part and accidents etc, worries me. Strive to be a better rider.

Thanks mate.. Yes.. I'm afraid too.. That's why I keep my distance.. I mean I have seen all the cabbies and all driving past the trucks.. I do that when the road is wide.. Rarely on a flyover.. However I'm afraid of having a puncture and having my skull crushed, hence the very thought makes me apply the brakes and slow down.. Better safe than sorry..

So, for the discussion...

Just had a discussion with dad.. He said that the budget is 1 lakh.. And family rules for me.. So keeping future in mind.. Pillion comfort is important.. And keeping the budget, I'm stuck between CBR 150 and R15 v2. So no duke for me.. [emoji20]

He said strictly 150cc.. And my driving is only in the city.. And I'll be coming from a Honda unicorn..

As per Bangalore prices, both R15 and CBR 150R are > 1.3L on road.
Pillion comfort on R15 isn't the best and CBR 150R is awfully priced. Almost equal to Duke 200.

IIRC, CBR 150R goes for 1.43L OTR.

For 1 lakh you can't get either bikes buddy . They are around 1.3 . Personally I prefer a Honda engine any day over Yamaha . It has a better riding position too than R15 with better brakes . R15 brakes never gave me the confidence that is required in a fast bike .

alright.. So, do I have any other alternatives? I'll be coming from a Honda Unicorn here.. I know, but I'm stressing a bit on here as I am already on a 150cc bike.. Dad wants me to go nothing beyond that.. Sorry if I am hard on here..

Within 1 L budget I would suggest you Bajaj 200NS , TVS 160 RTR or Yamaha FZ . Not a big fan of bajaj machines but I guess 200NS is awesome for it's price . ( If you can convince your family for a 200cc machine ) or else go for FZ or RTR both are fantastic machines and very comfortable .

Lol, as he said no Pulsars you replaced the word with Bajaj in you post. Neat.

But yes, P200NS is one option. Suggest take a test ride. Not sure what your reasons are of not opting for Pulsars as a choice.

Alternatively, you check the new Karizmas for under 1L budget.

Pulsars are too common and somehow I don't like them, I'll take a chance with the Yamaha and I currently have a Honda..

I need something reliable.. Like for 15 years and good pillion comfort.. What about the fazer..? And the r15 won't offer pillion comfort.. [emoji20]

Re: The Duke 200??

Hello Ajay,
Divya sir is absolutely right about the pillion comfort in R15 V2.0, I being the owner of R15 can vouch for that. The height of the seat is too much, getting on and off it is trouble, but once you climb on, it is comfortable.

Coming to CBR 150R, Divya sir is again correct, it is very high priced and you dont even get an engine kill switch and a pass switch.

As far as upgrading to a higher CC is concerned, both these bikes are 150 CC, as your old one, but the Horse Power and the Torque are much higher than your current ride. Add fuel injection, a lot of sensors and computers monitoring the engine, and pure track bred chassis, they are engineering marvels. so I think it is a proper upgrade.

Now comes the problem of puncture of tires at high speed. Both these bikes come with very good quality, tubeless-radial tires, which provide superior grip and handling. And in case of a puncture, these tires dont go flat like the normal ones, they dont even loose any pressure for many hours after the puncture. so there is no risk of blown tire and getting your skull crushed.

Reasons I chose R15 V2.0 over CBR 150R:

1# The plastic quality of the fairing is very cheap in CBR.
2# No engine kill switch, No pass switch.
3# Indicators are taken from shine.
4# The whole switch console is taken from stunner.
5# Honda service is pathetic.
6# Slightly overpriced, with much less equipment than R15.
7# R15 is an eye candy, and the build quality is top notch.

The only thing Good in CBR is that the pillion seat is not so high if you compare it to R15, but still high enough, if you compare it to your current ride. I chose R15 because, I ride alone 95% of times and also the reasons above were too much to live with. I mean more than 1.3 lakh is not a small amount. Also the riding posture of CBR is more upright and comfortable, whereas the R15 has aggressive seating posture. you will have to bend a bit to reach the handle bars. so you have to be fit, for long use of R15 or your back is going to pain like hell.

But dont just read and believe me, please visit the dealership and check for the above points yourself, take a test ride, show them to your parents and take their opinion.
Choose the one which suits you the best. And do tell us what you decide.
All the Best, Ride safe.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Ankey thanks for the long response.. Something I needed.. Is it possible that once I sit on the r15, the seat will come down due to my weight..? Or any way to reduce the height aftermarket..? Even here Honda is pathetic.. But their engines are extremely reliable..

Sorry mate I somehow missed that line 'No Pulsars No RE' . Thanks nirvaana ; ) . Fazer is also good . R15 won't ever offer pillion comfort and even to the rider itself and it's out of criteria so let's keep it out along with CBR150 R . I don't think 200NS is that common . Infact Fazer,FZs and apaches are much more common then 200NSs . But if you have decided to stay away from Pulsars so you can check these mentioned bikes .
Karizma's have a refined engine but well..too much plastic , bigger size and toyish looks to me .
