Re: Apache 160 or yamaha fz s 2.0

As @sambit mentioned, I also wouldn't suggest a bike for you. Your parents are right in worrying about your riding habits. Biking is not just 'riding fast' bud, It's riding better and riding safer. This might come to you as being 'too wise' for your liking, but it's the truth.

If you are still sticking to your decision, IMO Buy the FZ V2.0 (the loss in power is not felt as the chassis has become lighter) for it's linear power delivery and comfort.

    AND,

    Buy proper riding gears,
Learn the art of safe biking,
SERVICE your bike and take good care of it! It pains to know that your Activa was last serviced 2 years ago.

I don't totally agree with you on this matter buddy, he is already 19 and this is the time when he should start learning any new thing, whether it's studies, or riding, yeah parents will be worried and there worriness is right but now is the time to show them that you are becoming mature, because from now on he will get older not younger so if dosen't take responsibilites now then when he will take them, as in the spiderman movie Ben Parker said with great power comes great responsibilites.

        OT
But dont you think , his post about boasting about his speed and no love towards his ride, clears that he might need some more time to handle that power.

Re: Apache 160 or yamaha fz s 2.0

You can choose any of the two, both are great bikes-
City Pickup: Both bikes perform good when the signal goes Green.
Top Speed: RTR160 has slightly more top speed than FZ.
Comfort: RTR sure has vibrations, FZ is more smooth and comfortable.
Ride Quality: I like the sitting position of the RTR very much. FZ is better while cornering.
Mileage: RTR160 gives around 45 kpl, FZ 2.0 may give you that figures too.
Maintenance: All bikes including your choice needs regular servicing.
You need to start loving your bike and get it regular serviced. Else doesn't matter which bike you take you will start hating it.

I don't want to go OT, i have just corrected the statement, at this age of 19teen everyone loves speed, it's the rush of adrenalin which is driving him right now, yes you are right he needs more time, but that does, not mean he should not ride a bike, because of which FZs is more well mannered motorcycle than Apache.

And when buying a bike (esp a performance bike) keep in mind that it needs maintenance. If you consider you'll service it once in couple of years, soon its gonna get damages. If you expect your bike to be good to you, be a caring owner.

Re: Apache 160 or yamaha fz s 2.0

I am also going to buy a new bike for me, but i have rode bikes before(of my friends), pulsar 150 and apache rtr 160 being the most high performer among them. if i post a new thread, it will be similar, so i am posting my query here only.
                1. Budget - 1 lakh
                2. Age - 22
                3. Height - 6 ft
                4. Weight - 70KG
                5. Intended usage - Office commute, Highway runs(once in two weeks or so)
                6. Fuel Efficiency requirement - around 40 will do(should be more only :P)
                7. City & Highway percentage usage - city 100 percent , highway only twice or thrice in month(weekends)
                8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running - 30 KMs approx daily
                9. City / Town /Village of residence - Pune
                10. Brand / Bike type preference (if any) - Yamaha FZ v2.0, trigger (I love FZ and i always wanted to own one)

i want to state that i am not a high speed driver at all, max i go is on empty straight road is 85-90. So top end speed doesn't matter much.and will FZ will be comfortable for my height and roaming around pune's hilly areas?
                thanks in advance

FZ V2.0 suits your requirements perfectly. Else wait for some more days for the Fazer V2.0.

No problem as far as your height is concerned, 80 to 90 speed is quite good and little bit more controlable in tight situations, Fz has got very sharp chassis and this V2 is lighter by three kilos, plus yamaha has given more flexibility to the middle of the chassis (midship) so riding in hilly areas will be more enjoyable than befor, Fz is all about low and mid range torque so you will not feel any problem in city riding also.

Once I convince my parents of decent bike driving skills I wont need a 150 cc bike.......lol

But you can manage it with proper servicing, regular use of some good engine oil like Motul 5100 15W50 semi-synthetic 4T oil and proper riding technique. The vibrations will reduce and you'll love its instant acceleration and sheer performance as well. But again in the reliability and comfort zones FzS wins. You cannot get everything (look, performance, mileage, comfort, reliability) in one bike, so at first decide your priority.
Took the test drive of both the Apache and fz , frankly I have to admit fz is more my type of bike with its seating posture as well as the lack of noise from the engine are stand out points for me . However , the only drawback with fz was it was too slow in terms of acceleration .

I would suggest RTR 160 and then the new FZ for you. Take test drive of both the bike and decide as per your preference.

What about control over wrist and taking care of your bike? Have you thought about that?

Sudden jolt of accelaration is always risky for the rider, sudden accelaration also put whole lot of pressure on engine parts, the TD vehicle must have been new and that also counts in slower accelaration, once the engine passes its initial run-in period the accelaration is quite good.
