  • [Help] Buying First Bike : FZs FI?

    Hi,
I'm planning to buy my first bike.Although, I've been riding 100CCs for a long time now but never had a regular experience of 150cc segment. Therefore, looking for an upgrade this time. The reasons of buying the bike are:

    a) Owning a dream.
    b) Daily commute in town around 10-15 kms.
    c) Occasional trips outside town i.e. once or twice a month.

What I expect from the bike(Which are not concrete because, honestly, at this point even I don't know what I should expect) :

    a) Good Looks .
    b) Decent mileage (40-50 Kmpl)
    c) Good Handling.
    d) Prized Under 1 Lac.
    e) Not costly maintenance.

My first choice is FZs V2.0 FI as it fits all the above criteria well and I've always been an admirer of FZ because of its naked design.
BUT i have few questions :
    a) Is it a right choice? Straight YES or NO.
    b) As heard, is the power too less? I did a test ride of it but didn't felt any sloppiness. Although it was a very short test ride so couldn't make much out of it.
    c) What are the things I should think upon before owning my first bike?

Hope you guys can help. Thanks

P.S : Apologies if any mistakes made in posting or the way of posting as this is my first post.
The day I'll not ride, will be a sad day for me.

      Hello Samrat,
YES, Fz V2.0 is the right choice for you.

It fulfills all your needs. It looks good, gives a decent mileage, good handling on both city and highway, is a bit costly than other 150cc bikes but the build quality and technology justifies the price, and it is fairly cheap to maintain and very very reliable.

Yes it is 1bhp less then old Fz, but is also 4 kilos lighter, a loss of 1 bhp is hardly noticeable and it dosent effect the performance of the bike in any way, add closed loop fuel injection system to it and the bike is a dream come true. More ever I am an owner of a Yamaha bike and I can personally vouch for the build quality, the butter smooth engine, the handling, the fuel injection system, the service centers. They are all very good.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Why not try new Suzuki Gixxer 155 ? Remember its a Suzuki. And the finishing and all is really good to compete with FZ.

A single back to back test ride might help you. . Heard that low end torque on the Gixxer is better compared to the Fz . Test ride and opt for the engine that suits your liking

              Hi,
I'am using the FZ from 2009, yes the bike is really good in handling in cities or highways. Periodic maintenance is more than enough to keep the bike going well by not having big holes in the pocket. The new fz is 1bhp less but the weight is also reduced so it should not effect the performance of the bike. Mileage on my bike i'am getting 35-40 but the new fuel injection should be better.

FZ V2.0 is perfect for your requirements. Go for it.
Gixxer may well become a very good bike in the future - no long term review as yet though. But as this is your first bike I'd suggest you to go the safe way. FZ is a tried and tested bike in India. And it has only got better with the V2.0.

Fzs Fi is a good choice though, it can't fulfil everything. Expect 42 kmpl on sane riding. Has good initial and mid range pick up upto 80 kmph but post 80 its lazy. Its upto you on what speed you'd like to be cruising. But it of course is a good bike for occassional short trips. The 95k price tag is on the higher side for a 13 bHp machine, but the FI and dashing look speak for it, I guess liquid cooling system is also installed in it, not sure though. If you're satisfied with these features, then its the only bike you should go for. If you want me to name another option, it can be Honda cb Trigger CBS, a smooth commuter having better mileage and slightly better top end.

I have taken a test ride of Gixxer and yes the low end torque is way better than FZ. It also is completely vibe free until 75kmph and it handles like a Gem.
I believe suzuki has done a very impressive job with Gixxer but a late one.
My friend who rides 200NS is also very much impressed with its acceleration and the vibe free ride. After the test ride he said - Now I understand why you always complain of vibrations in my NS.(I am a Honda guy).
I suggest people who want to buy FZ take a testride of Gixxer first. (unless one buys fz for its looks only)

Hi Mr.Samraat,I can suggest you to go for the TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS Facelift.I think I saw your Maximum Budget is Rs.1 Lakh and You needed Less Maintainence and Decent Mileage and Good Looks.IMHO,The RTR 180 ABS Ticks all the boxes in a Better way.Actually It ticks even more Boxes ! It has better Performance (17 Bhp),Mileage (40KMPL) and Safety (ABS) than all those 150cc bikes.I seriously don't know why a 150cc Bike is preferred when you have Rs.1 Lakh .It gives Mileage of atleast 40 KMPL and Moreover You will be the First Owner of the RTR 180 ABS V2 in xBhp ! You don't have to worry about Reliability as this Bike has a good impression from Everyone. It is the Only Bike under Rs.1 Lakh to have ABS.Please Believe me,ABS is a very good safety feauture. It prevents from Wheel Locking and skidding. So,I say you can go and Test drive the ABS Version and see...No,Feel for yourself.Thank you

FZ V2.0 simply because it is fuel injected

Re: [Help] Buying First Bike : FZs FI?

People thanks a lot for your suggestions and guidance. Meant a lot.

I'm now rounding of my choices between FZs V2.0 & Apache RTR 180 ABS.

FZs V2.0 because it has always been my first choice because of its looks.

Apache RTR 180 ABS because of its technical specs & power.

But i'm not sure about TVS's quality & reliability. So, again confused.

Please Help me to decide as I don't want to regret after buying that I could've got better one. I want to take the bike by end of this month.

                          Thanks
The day I'll not ride, will be a sad day for me.

                              1lak budget ?
Then you can test ride PULSAR 200NS too.
Fits your requirements and will make you a lot more happy than other bikes .
Yamaha Fz should be bought only if you do not care about performance.
Apache is a very good bike but its a bit old gen bike .
Watch Fz vs gixer comparison test by autocar and you will get a better impression .
