  • Good bike for 60 km daily travel.

    Hey everyone!

I'm from Bangalore and I've been reading through posts on this forum for quite some time now. Actually, it all started with travelogues on Leh-Ladakh. And one day I'll be there too. But that won't happen anytime soon. I'm in college for another 3 years.

So getting to the point, I'm searching for a bike now and I need your suggestions for the same. I will be getting it at the end of about 2 months from now.

My daily travel is close to 60 km (two way), out of which 70% is on the highway and 30% in city where there is not much of traffic.

Occasional rides of about 100-150 km (one way) may fall into plans.

I'm 6 ft tall and weigh 82 kilos.

I'll list out my requirements(order doesn't indicate priority) below.

    1) I'm looking at 150+cc bikes.

    2) Priced around 90,000 rupees or max under a lakh rupees on road(it's not from my pocket so I don't want to ask for more).

    3) I need a bike that can CRUISE COMFORTABLY at around 75kmph and maybe a little more sometimes(for fun).

    4) FUEL EFFICIENCY OF 44+ kmpl at those speeds.

    5) Rider seat should be comfortable too.

    5) Pillion comfort should be decent.(unlike r15 or duke which are very uncomfortable atleast according to me) but I will have a pillion very rarely.

    6) I'm not looking to beat other vehicles when the light turns green (but wouldn't want an under powered vehicle either).

    7) I can wait to buy a bike for another 6 months if there will be a better product.

The options(in order of priority) I have in mind are the Suzuki Gixxer 155, Suzuki GS150, Pulsar 200ns, Yamaha FZ FI, Honda CB Trigger.

    The reason being:

    Gixxer 155
Pros : new, price, good performance and handling(from reviews I've read)
Cons: I'm not sure about the fuel efficiency and I expect it to be on the lines of fz or slightly better.
    Can anyone provide exact numbers??

    GS150
Pros: 6 speed gear box, price, FE
Cons: plain looks, already 6-7 years old
Will there be any update for this bike???

    Pulsar 200ns
    Pros : vfm, power, price(considering it's 200cc)
Cons: fuel efficiency(for my requirements) or can I expect good fe figures?

    Yamaha fz fi
    Pros: looks, fi, handling
Cons: priced slightly higher than competition, fuel efficiency.
Anybody has an idea about the new fi system's numbers???

    Honda CB trigger
Pros: silent engine, Honda parts and quality( I personally do not know, just going by history), FE.
Cons: boring looks, being a Honda it hasn't seen much success so not impressed)

I've ruled out the Yamaha R15 because of its riding position and my budget. Otherwise it's a fun to ride bike.

I'm not even thinking of the Honda CBR 150r(overpriced), or the pulsar 150(very common and nothing interesting), pulsar 180.

Out of these bikes mentioned above, I have ridden only the old fz for a fair number of kilometres.

Clearly I'm confused. I'm looking to finish part of the battle on paper and then go for test drive. So please help me out.

    I currently ride a 2012 Honda activa.

And as I said earlier, I can wait for another 6 months.
    Or
I may not get a bike at all if I get to shuffle between the activa and car.

    One more thing.
Though I have completely NO IDEA(like zero percent), is it good to look for USED vehicles?
And under used vehicles can I consider bikes like the rx135, 200ns? Will they meet my requirements? Will they be reliable?

    Thanks in advance.

    Query Approved.

    Cheers!

    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Re: Good bike for 60 km daily travel.

FZ V2.0 can easily cruise @ 80-85 kmph all day long. Mileage @ that speed should be around 45kmpl.
Apache 180(ABS) is also a good bike for your budget and your requirements if you can put up with vibrations and slightly rough engine.
GS 150 has the advantage of the 6th gear alongwith a good engine and build quality.
If you are interested in Gixxer, I'd suggest you to wait at least for 3 months for the feedback.
Karizma R is another option you can consider.
I'd recommend you either the FZ V2.0 or the GS150.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

All the above bikes shortlisted are good enough. I am not very sure about CB Trigger how comfortable at speeds around 75 kmph. All others are have good stress free feedback from engine around 75kmph.

I think the fz will be a good choice then.
But I'd really like to go with the gixxer if it offers similar performance. And I think I can wait a little more for that.

About apache, I've just sat on one and it was relatively less comfortable. I'm not sure though. So I'll comment on it after I try it out.

Gs150 .. hmmm.. if not for its age then probably this thread wouldn't exist. It fits all my needs but I somehow can't make up my mind.

Re: Good bike for 60 km daily travel.

            I will suggest pulsar 200ns.
It has more than enough power for daily commutes and is pretty comfortable.
It gives 40 plus mileage if ridden till 80kmph.

Rest you should test ride each and every bike and then select which you like the most.

I would ask you to go for any between suzuki gs150r or gixxer. GsR is a proven bike for low-traffic ways and Gixxer feels like an upgrade. Pulsar Ns is not a bad option but mileage wise you won't get that much.

I think I'm inclined towards the Suzukis. And the new gixxer holds the higher position.
Will go to test it soon.

Thank you for the figures. But I'll still have to analyze a little more regarding the pulsar 200ns and the running costs I'd incur overall.
But it's still not off the cards

I can definitely suggest you the TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS.It isn't comfy as all the others, but At that price,It is the most Safest Bike and also the Most Thrilling bike.It gives a healthy mileage of 45 KMPL if ridden under 80 Kph.Thank you

I feel , less the power , more the tiered you will feel after the journey , when ur bike struggles. Mentally we also struggle , just a thought, if ur bike is powerful, u will feel the ease , 60kms daily, better get a bike which has a displacement of 200 and above , I have a 200ns , extremely satisfied. Cbr 250 will be a good option too

I completely agree with that fact. But at the same time, I ride sedately(and go crazy only once in a while).

About the cbr250r, it's a really good bike. A friend of mine has it and I ride it sometines. But it's way out of my budget.

And even if I could spend that much, the only reason why I would not opt for one is because I would blindly walk into a Royal Enfield showroom and get a Thunderbird 350 or the Bullet 500(black color). Yes, I'm a Royal Enfield fan.

No matter which bike you buy it all depends on how you maintain it.. if properly taken care of then your maintaince would be low and so is your running costs..
Apart from that also consider spare part availability and cost..
Honda will cost you a bomb
Bajajs spare parts are priced fairly
Yammie is also slightly on higher side bit not as honda
                              No idea about suzuki though..
I was also in same dilemma that you are in .. though my driving distance is less..
I opted for ns for its power and doing 99% of what duke 200 does and its comfy enough for me .. plus its under a lac and mostly god forbid if anything happens spares and labour won't cost a bomb..
I also kept option of gs150 because it was very much comfortable and relaxed in nature.. but as it turns out i am sucker for more power
