    Hi Experts,

I am planning to buy a new bike. I am 5.11 tall and weight arnd 75Kg. Budget around 70-75K max.
Basic Requirements:- I stay in Bangalore so need it for daily commute of around 20kms max. Would love to cruise for small trips outside may be around 200kms one way initially and would increase later.Should be comfortable, good pillion seat, low maintainence, long running, mileage should be around 40-45kmpl in city.Should be sporty in look and suitable for family travel as well. I am preety new to this world of CC, power etc. So please help me drill down the selection. I would definitely plan a Ladakh trip on this very bike within some time.

What would be your best bet in 150cc segment considering above ?

    Query Approved.

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

For ypur requirements, FZ 2.0 suits the bill perfectly.
Or else, out can opt for GS150R or Honda Unicorn.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Options you have in 150cc are Suzuki Gixxer, Yamaha FZ (carb version), Hero Extreme, Suzuki GS150R, Honda Unicorn, Honda Trigger.

All the bikes are reliable and have hassle free ownership.

            Re: Bike Selection Help

Yamaha Szr will be ideal for the budget, you have mentioned. As it is the only 150cc in your budget. It has a very very reliable and smooth engine, Yamaha build quality is top notch, very refined ride, cheapest 150 cc bike, good mileage, cheap to service and maintain.

All other 150cc bikes (Hero Xtreme, Pulsar 150, Apache 160, Gixxer155, GS150R) will cost you 78 - 85 thousand Rs. So you will need to stretch your budget a bit.

Hero Xtreme - Very reliable and robust engine, cheap to maintain and service, fresh new looks.

Pulsar 150 - Most common thing on the road, nothing new to offer. Build quality not so good, but cheap to maintain.

Gixxer 155 - fresh new looks, the reviews are impressive, but it is a new launch and how it fares in real world is yet to be seen.

GS150R - butter smooth Suzuki engine, good build quality and reliability, 6 speed gearbox, but service centers are not easily found.

Yamaha FZ 2.0 also suits your requirements perfectly but it costs 92 thousand rupees. And its the only one with closed loop fuel injection system, hence more cost.

            Test ride and then decide.
            All the best.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

For,All your requirements,I think the FZ suits it perfect. But if you want a bit more power and thrill including fun,The Apache RTR 160 is what you must be looking at sir.The new seat is redesigned and re-cushioned so Comfort will be no problem,You will get 50-55 Kmpl mileage on the RTR 160,It's spare part are the cheapest so Lower maintenance costs and Of-course Sporty looks.I have some pictures of it.Thank you

Take a TD of the Bajaj Discover 150-S and 150-F. These are some nice 150cc within your budget.

For a newbie, and to suit your requirement like what TVSian mentioned, RTR 160 is good inside city and also for a short busrt of highway ridign as well...Not sure if this bike would cater for your Leh/Ladhak trip..but 20kms a day for daily commute, its a decent one...

                    Re: Bike Selection Help

Thanks guys... took a test ride for Bajaj 150-F but was not comfortable with the handle as it's not attached to the mask.
Yahama-FZ is nice but pillion seat is at higher level.

Also, Yahama only has SZ-S & SZ-RR so which one of these you are referring to coz I think SZ-R is no longer into production. Hero Extreme I like and hopefully would be taking a test ride today. Whats the mileage of Yamaha SZ series & Extreme as per reviews.

I need a bike for long trips as well once in a quater. May be next year end to Leh trip. Has anyone been to that place with the Yahama SZ or Extreme ? How the bike during the trip any thoughts to share...

Thanks ALL in Advance for your valuable advices.

The mileage greatly depends on the riding style, any 150 cc bike, if ridden sanely will give 45-50 and if ripped will give 35-40. Regular service, oil change and maintenance also affects mileage. A bike with a dirty chain will give less mileage and power compared to a clean and well lubed chain. So don't worry about mileage, you'll get decent mileage if you keep your bike healthy.

As for the long tours, both of the companies (Yamaha and Hero) are known for reliability and build quality of their bikes, so they shouldn't give you any trouble in the long trips. To find out more about the leh tours check out the tourer section, it will help you a great deal.

How you guys rate these Xtreme, Hunk, Yamaha SZ-RR and Unicorn for long distance trips and in terms of performance/mileage/maintenance for long running life.

I know I might be asking more questions but just wanted to make myself familiar before actually putting the money.

You should surely take your time before putting your hard earned money. Among the bikes mentioned by you, Unicorn is suited best for long distance tours followed by SZ-RR. Both of them have a gem of an engine along with unmatched build quality. It's not to say that Xtreme or Hunk are 'bad' bikes. They are good bikes on their own right but the Unicorn and SZ-RR are a bit ahead IMO.

both xtreme and hunk are the same. xtreme is a bit sporty when compared to the hunk.
                            haven't rode a sz-r
unicorn is a good bike, gives you decent performance and reliable.

unicorn and xtreme share the same platform and engine, it's just hero has tuned to the engine

unicorn is like a gentle man and xtreme is like a guy with torn jeans.

unicorn is smooth and xtreme is a rev happy machine. the engine loves to be reved. xtreme has better top end.

i would suggest you to wait for the launch of xtreme sports with 15.4 bhp engine.

Unicorn, SZR, Xtreme and hunk in that order.

Why not go to the showroom and test ride each of the shortlisted bikes. Get to know them better. How each of them rides, how it handles, how are the brakes. This will help you choose the one that suits you the best.

Take test rides. It will be easy to decide.
