• Scooter for my fiance - Ray/Ray Z

Hey Guys,
Am planning to get my fiance a Scooter. I discussed this with that little brat and she said "I dont want any scooter" and after convincing her, she said "Anything! But in PINK"
I was like WTF? But again, do I have any other choice once the lady says "Pink"
I dont think we have much pink options in Scooters except in TVS and in Yamaha.
She will be using it to commute in local and not more than 3 kms to 6 kms in a week unless she she gets posted nearby my house.
My questions are as below.
1. How good is the ray?
2. How Comfortable is it?
3. How does it performace?
4. What is the FE?
5. How much does it cost to maintain?
6. Since this will be the first New Yamaha I am going to buy, i want to know how the after sales service will be in and around Delhi-NCR.
7. How comfortable will it be for me in case i need to ride it. Though i have a RX135 and a ZMR.. she will ask me to tKe her out on it for sure.. i weigh 70kgs and my height is 5'7"..
8. Planning to buy it in Coimbatore and bring it to NCR. we will be shifting back to TN in a couple of years and I am planning to keep Ray for 5 - 7 yrs. What are the things i have to keep in mind when transporting it to NCR from Coimbatore. As in legal documents to ride a TN registered bike in NCR..

She likes the color in the pic attached.. is this color available in India??

Your valuable suggestions are needed.

Thanks in advance,
Reneav

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Re: Scooter for my fiance - Ray/Ray Z

Hey, my friend also got Ray in Feb earlier this year. And u rode it quite a lot for a few months.
1. Its a nice scoot, easy to ride, light and nimble iin traffic. No complaints.
2. Its comfortable enough for our local commutes. The suspension is comfortable and takes the bumps easily.
3. Performance wise, i can't say for sure. Never rode any other scooty.
4. FE is low in my opinion. Didn't kept a note, but had to tank up in about 150-160kms. Might be due to the face that my friend was learning and used to ride in ultra slow speeds.
5. Maintenance cost of minimal. Service costs for obly oul change and washing. Some ₹300 i think.
6. Delhi guys can comment better. Just be firm on what you want.
7. I at 5.9 look big in this.
8. Others can help you better.

As for the color, i don't think thus is available. You get solid pink the Ray. But not this dual tone black pink.

Ride safe and have fun.

Thanks for the response mate.

In case this color scheme isnt available, the only option for me is to get a Black Ray and get some pink sticker job done on it

I loved the ray and the Ray Z even more..

As far as FE is concerned, i cant expect it to give my Black Pearl like FE [emoji3] i guess I am not bothered about the FE part..

Actually i suggested a friend of mine to get the Ray after a detailed search last year.. she is really happy with the Ray.. i think i will take it feom her for few days when i go to Chennai for my marriage next month to see how it would suit for me to commute. I have used Activa a lot but this is the first time I am looking out for a Yamaha.. heard ASC of Yamaha is much better than any other brand ASC..

Anyone owning a Ray can throw more light on it
B7ACKTHORN.. thanks for the approval anna

Re: Scooter for my fiance - Ray/Ray Z

I have a male colleague who is having a Ray-Z for more than a year now. Both he and his girlfriend use the Ray-Z extensively. More than 9500 km.s done. Both of them are very happy with the performance, smoothness and comfort. Like any other Yamaha, mileage is a little less than others in the same category. But that's probably the only drawback.
I have had taken a ride or two on his Ray-Z on a few occasions. Till 70-75 it pulls fine after which the engine feels a little stressed. But, I think that's a fair speed for a gearless scooter.
And Yamaha ASS is certainly better than others(personal experience). Most importantly, they don't stop caring about a customer once the product is sold!

My friend has been using Ray-Z since over a year now. Till date he hasn't faced any issues with the Scooter. He rides it 'Real Rough'. The scooter is quite nimble and we have ridden 300kms in a day without any issues. With pillion, the scooter can easily do 70+ at ease. FE does take a hit, but in return you get a better scooter from other counterparts. The only issue I found is that, the headlight isn't that great.

AFAIK, the said color by you isn't available. Ray comes in Solid Colors (Pink is available) and Ray-Z has stickered body panels.

Cheerz!!
The real beauty lies in throttle's twist!!

Headlight can be replaced, Head cannot be. Wear a helmet.

Thanks for the response.. My friend with Ray also told me it is a great scooter and she thanked me for suggesting it.. I never got a chance to ride it even though she asked me to. I guess it is time for me to take her Ray for a ride and see for myself..

If the color scheme isn't available, then I guess going for a black Ray and then getting some pink sticker job done would be the only way to satisfy her pinkish love.. lol

Is there anyone how has faced any sorta issue on the Ray? anyone has any idea??

By the way, how is the sales chart for Ray compared to its competitors??

Re: Scooter for my fiance - Ray/Ray Z

Hello sir,

I dont have a ray but I did suggest it to one of my friends. I own a Yamaha R15 and got a good look at Ray-z when I went for the bike's service, the scoot looks sturdy, and well made, I talked with 2 Ray owners in the service center, they were happy and satisfied with it. The service center guys are good- they listen to the problem and fix it.

Meanwhile Yamaha also launched a new Gearless scoot named "alpha", It's not as flashy looking as Ray z and have the same 110 cc engine. Have a look at it when you are at the showroom.

As for the sales chart, TVS Jupiter is also selling in good numbers and can be termed as a good competitor.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Thanks for your valuable suggestion.. The reason I chose Ray over Honda Dio is because it is quite small and it would suit my fiance well.. I have seen the Alpha and I am not satisfied with the looks of it.. but the ray is simply beautiful.. Damn.. why did my dad have to say a scooter.. had he mentioned bike, I would have booked the RC390 already

Svc are good and gr8 facilities for women's, like pick and drop, training session and like every one you have to be just a bit aware and friendly with your scooter. Rest of svc will take care for ur smoother rides.

Apart anything u found not going good with svc drop a mail to YAMAHA india and ur problem will taken and treated on priority.
