If you have not made a decision yet, I would suggest you to do what I am doing. Go into Wait-Mode. [emoji14]

The new model is definitely better and an improvement over the current model. If Honda launches it here they definitely will increase the price (hopefully just by 15-20K) and by that time they will start to clear out the stock of the outgoing model. If you cannot/do not want to get the new version, the older one will get a lil' bit cheaper as well. So it's a win win situation for us bikers.

Also a lot of other companies are launching bikes here very fast and who knows, maybe we will be even more spoilt for choice.

      I hope this helps ya.
That makes me feel very comfortable now! Well, I do know that none of us have concrete info, but it feels quite nice to read some news about the bike and know that someone else is on the same boat as me too

And if it is not going to be the 300, they better not hike the price by 20k and all, some 10-12k is acceptable.

I am really growing impatient, but at the same time I am beginning to find the current one dated too. Also, I don't like the KTM stablemates too!

I love this bike, but I hate Honda for this lethargic attitude towards our market.

The 300 is just a bored out 250 (it's actually 286cc) so there is not much of a difference in both these bikes.

Honda is not launching it because they are in wait n watch mode themselves. [emoji14]

They are observing the market right now and so many companies want a place in our country that the competition from here on will just get fiercer day by day.

I hope they don't increase the price that much since a lot of parts are still the same. Let's see what happens.

Good times ahead for the biking community! [emoji6]

Chicken or mutton its not about competition its about choices for bikers .
Eventually they should launch something considering the age of apache .
Its not wise to suggest him to wait for a bike which is not yet revealed.

I don't recommend waiting because of my personal experience. Its better to go with good one which best suits our need that is currently available. Because the news or rumors in this particular industry cant be trusted. If CBR is the choice, I would recommend to book it.

My concern is around long term maintenance of the bike if I buy as I intent to keep it for atleast 5 years. Will spare parts be a problem say 2 years down the line? Is the 300R just a rebored version of the 250R sharing most of the components so that most parts are interchangable? Or will I be making a mistake buying a bike whose production has stopped and to be replaced by a totally different bike?Note that I am not interested in the 300R as it would stretch my budget too much. And please, no KTM duke/Pulsar/R15 suggestions.
We are in the exact same boat! It has been around 3+ months of impatient waiting and I have finally decided to go ahead and buy the 250R within the next one month. Now all I am thinking is whether to go for the ABS or not.

Re: CBR250R - Right time to Buy?

The fact screams itself loud that CBR 250R is the undisputed champion in India amid all options w.r.t price, performance, quality, maintenance and every other thing you could think of. But yes, you need to get hold of a good mechanic who understands your concerns or queries to help you cuddle this bike for more than 2 years.

You call it a new 250 in the cards or a 300cc, CBR will have it own takers. The rumored Yamaha R3 may tempt many but again it will be priced at par with Ninja 300. Go, get yourself a new one, take care of it and it will serve you a great deal in return. Good luck!

Your bike is way better than babes, only thing is that you need a proper vision to mull over this fact. :D

Go for ABS if money isn't an issue. It will prove its worth one day.

Ps: i would say wait for next gen. Cbr250/300 Or maybe hx250r.
Spare parts of current gen CBR250 are difficult to find and situation will get worse once current VFRish 250 is replaced with next gen Twin headlamp CBR

                      Hi,

Money won't really be a problem as I'll anyway be opting for a finance option (for around 30-40% of the cost). Many hard core bikers who bought cbr, chose to go with the non-abs. This is what got me thinking. Also, I'm not an aggressive rider myself. Assurance of abs would be nice, but somehow I don't find it an absolute necessity.

(Perviously, I had seriously considered buying an RE, where the whole concept of braking it yet to catch up! [emoji12] )

HX250 doesn't excite me at all. I'll be happy to give it a pass. Yamaha R3 will definitely be exiting. But, it looks a bit too good that my entry into my own home might be in jeopardy. [emoji3]

And as far as spare parts are concerned, it has been a problem with the cbr for long, right? ASS of Honda as far as I know is a pain. However, is it a deal breaker?
I somehow do not expect the new version of cbr to be available before May/June. It is just a hunch though.

                      Regards,
                      Vivek

Many hardcore bikers are using abs in 390 and are praising them.

ABS is a absolute necessary in Indian roads we are not riding in a safe secure environment so skipping a abs is a strict no no.

Get the CBR 250 now only if you are into touring with a reliable bike (nothing in its price beats it).

For city commuting as you have said you are in the same boat as the other member its better to get z250 or the likes as CBR 250 may not be a perfect city commuter .

First list out your needs ,the roads you ride daily and intension of use then comes the type of motorcycle then finally the different brands offering the type that suits you .

AFAIK these are the types based on usability under 2L
                        For inside city
                        Duke 200-pure city commute
                        For highway
                        Duke 390+ wind blast
                        CBR 250
                        Track
                        RC390

Unfortunately reliable Honda doesn't provide bikes for other usages and Kawasaki are pricey .
Ride all the bikes and decide in the end what your heart says matters .

P.S if you already own a good commuter bike you can get either of these and use it on weekend alone especially the RC.

Spare parts availability won't be a problem ,am living with a discontinued bajaj .They are legally bound to supply parts so shooting a mail to customer care can ensure delivery of parts .

Many people from facebook CBR250 group regretted not buying the ABS variant including my classmate. Since Stock continental tyres have pathetic grip ABS can be a life saver in some situations. I have heard new lots are coming With MRF tyres which considerably improved wet and dry grip.
Lack of spares availability isn't a deal breaker but its a huge PITA to find them in local shops/garages.

                            Hi,

Got your point regarding abs. I would have loved to test ride both versions before finalizing. However, Honda dealers do not seem interested in selling CBR! Couldn't manage to get a test drive. They keep saying tomorrow, in 2days, in a week, so on and so forth! But yes, I'd ridden the non-abs for a few kilometers to convince me of its abilities.

And yes, this would be pretty much exclusively for weekend rides and trips. I have a Suzuki Access, which does its job pretty well for the regular city rides.

I was actually surprised to see MRF on the display bike. Thought it was some stop gap arrangement by them. Good to know that Honda have decided to part with the ContiGos.
