Selecting the CBR 250R vs RC200
Hi guys, my I have booked the rc200 few days back, but I'm having second thoughts due to the seating position and the rear seats. I'm planning to buy CBR 250. Is this a good choice? Are the CBR still available in bangalore showrooms? I tour a lot and I feel that cbr would do justice for my needs. Please do advice

Re: Selecting the CBR 250R vs RC200
News Approved.
For commuting and light touring, the RC 200's seating position is aggressive, and might give you pain for about 2-3 days, after which you get used to it. In the long run, it will be helpful in racing/ hard riding, and not so helpful in bumper to bumper traffic where you might have to put a foot down every 10 seconds.
If you love the revvy engine of the RC200, you can save yourself some cash and choose Duke 200, with lesser weight than both the above bikes.
But since you mentioned touring, you can choose CBR 250R safely... In my opinion, it would be a better tourer than both the KTM twins.
I suggest the ABS version of CBR for better safety over long distance touring.
Depending on the luggage you carry and the pillion, Duke 390 and RC 390 might also suit your needs, with more power. These bikes are more suitable for luggage-less, single, long distance & smooth roads kind of touring.
They're slightly expensive, although a Duke 390 (with ABS as standard) costs quite close to the CBR 250 with ABS.Last edited by Samarth 619; 12-14-2014, 09:09 PM.---

Re: Selecting the CBR 250R vs RC200
Thanks for your reply. 390 would be an overkill considering that I use it mostly in city. Since Honda is stopping the cbr and I did take a test drive of the rc200 on a friends bike. It cleared all my doubts. And I guess I'll get used to the aggressive seating

Why not keep your current bike for city commute .Originally posted by manub View PostThanks for your reply. 390 would be an overkill considering that I use it mostly in city. For city only use your old bike can easily cope up.
Get a D390 or an RC390 for occasional runs .

Re: Selecting the CBR 250R vs RC200
Dont worry about the aggressive seating position, you'll get used to it in 500-700kms. It just a matter of getting your stance correct and get used to the new riding style. a couple of hundred kms on the saddle and the wrist pain and back pain will go away and then you can enjoy the powerful engine to the fullest.I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

In my opinion, RC is not suitable for touring, its ready to race machine for track and riding position can kill someone on long stretches, still if some one manage to do so, kudos for him from my side...
Take the test ride of both back to back and you will feel the difference...KTM RC390 - Current

Re: Selecting the CBR 250R vs RC200
I'm afraid but itsmevini123 is right regarding touring on RC.
manub Since you mentioned touring, I wanted to know what you think of the Duke 200? Its more comfortable and has the same engine as RC200.
And as for Duke 390, I don't think its an overkill for city as long as you can manage 25-40 kmph. Its low end is quite soft and can be managed below 4000 rpm very easily...
The only thing is, you have to keep lower gears, like 3rd gear. And it will still return 25-30 kmpl mileage in city conditions. Of course, if you have really clogged roads in your city, then its another matter.
I've seen many R15 owners go on long tours. Of course, its not all comfortable for them, but they do it! Of course, if you really want to, you can get used to RC for touring also..---

Agreed, sir.Originally posted by Samarth 619 View PostI've seen many R15 owners go on long tours. Of course, its not all comfortable for them, but they do it! Of course, if you really want to, you can get used to RC for touring also..
I dont do long tours, but 200-300 kms a day, once a month. and I'm pretty comfortable doing it on my R15.
I dont feel any discomfort now, but the first time I did it, my shoulders and back hurt for a week. But now I dont even feel tired after such a tour.
So as said before if the thread starter is reasonably fit and does not have a history of back pains, there is nothing to worry about. Adapt to the new riding position and just get used to it after 1000 kms you wont even feel that you are tucked in and crouching on the tank.
I am so used to the aggressive position that when I ride my old splendor, my foot goes back at the pillion foot rests and searches for the gear or brake paddle (in traffic jams - stop and go traffic).I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Re: Selecting the CBR 250R vs RC200
I'm quite used to touring in that aggressive position. Last year had been on a 1200km trip on the r15. Didn't feel any major discomfort. Also one more reason was the pricing. The cbr is 8k less than the rc. Is rc worth the price?Originally posted by Ankey View PostAgreed, sir.

Re: Selecting the CBR 250R vs RC200
one thing i want to say - "if anybody says or feels that lean forward riding stance is too agressive and uncomfortable, believe me, in 99% cases he is not able to adapt to that forward lean if he goes ahead and buys it, so there is no point in suggesting that you will get used to it. no, he will not because it is in the mind"
second thing CBR is miles ahead of either duke or RC in terms of comfort. the suspension is soft and the ride quality is plush, CBR absorbs potholes and speedbumps (smaller ones), rumbler strips like a piece of cake, no need to slow down. it absolutely glides over bad indian roads, so touring and highway riding CBR is the King.add to that a longer tank range, wind protection etc and its nice package.
ofcourse it doesn't give you sharp handling and steering response dukes and RC give.
so the choice is simple, comfort or cornering prowess.

Well I choose the cornering machine. Re: Selecting the CBR 250R vs RC200
I own RC200 and trust me it is more aggressive then R15, Will not suggest RC200 if you are planning for tours.Originally posted by manub View PostI'm quite used to touring in that aggressive position. Again CBR may get a newer version with twin headlamp next year. so going with CBR for only those 8K doesn't make any sense.
RC is the machine for you then if not R15 !!!Originally posted by manub View PostWell I choose the cornering machine. Comfort isn't on top of my priorities now

The additional weight of CBR as compared to RC200 might be an added advantage.A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.
