everything depends on pricing. and yeah if the engines have not been started and bikes have been in shaded storage we can think of it. however you will need to replace or they will need to give you a new battery. second the tyre rubber might be hard by this time.

so expect a tyre change / battery change / engine oil / brake fluids/ oil filter etc change-

get the price quote once. one a price is given only then we can decide if its a good deal or not...

post that we will jot down areas of inspection..

The usual concerns whenever such "too good to be true deals" on motorcycles come out in the open are:

* Are you absolutely sure this is an unused or unsold motorcycle or was it a demo bike with certain no. of kms clocked under the belt? Make sure to check out the trip and odometer reading. If it has over 200 - 300 kms on it i would advise to walk away. A demo bike is usually abused by all the test riders/prospective owners who happily redline the bike to check its top speed and braking in India which means chances are the engine has taken a good amount of beating and may make you foot a huge repair bill at a later date.

* If you purchase the bike from the SVC will they still honour the 2 years standard Honda warranty from the date of purchase or will it be so that you are left on your luck? If they do honour the warranty then i feel it is a good deal as in when/if you do run into trouble, you can then pester Honda and get things replaced under warranty for free barring the usual consumables.

* Are you sure there are no weird history attached with this bike like unknown dues with say a loan company or any kind of creditors? A background check using the engine and chassis no. with an RTO would be a good thing to do.

* I would definitely take a mechanic and get the bike checked out for any signs of accidents or chassis bend which may have taken place during transportation from the stock yard to the showroom.

A bike usually lying idle for a long time may have the following anomalies:

- The battery is definitely shot, The terminals may have been corroded because of sulphation and gas emission,
- The tires rubber compound has hardened due to exposure to the elements and may have visible cracks on the surface which means they have to be replaced,
- Engine oil has already gone bad and there is a minute possibility of rust inside the engine (though very remote as metallurgy has improved since the late 80s on engines). So a standard servicing like replacing engine oil, oil filter, air filter and the spark plug (on precautionary basis) should be done at all costs,
- The coolant inside the radiator has lost its properties and will need a flushing and filling of fresh coolant,
- The Chain and Sprockets have most likely rusted due to inactivity and exposure to elements,
- Greasing inside the coneset and the tire bearings may have dried up.
- Brake fluid on both front and rear most likely will look like gutter water as the brake fluid may have absorbed quite a lot of moisture due to its hygroscopic nature. The brake fluid has to be flushed, the master cylinder, calipers and the brake line cleaned using a carburettor cleaning spray and then reassembled properly along with filling fresh DOT 4 brake fluid.
- The front fork oil must have gone bad and the seals will have to be checked for integrity and replaced along with fresh fork oil if required.
- The rear swing arm bush and the bearings will have to inspected for rust and greasing.
- I hope the SVC never had rat infestation. If it was the case then it would mean: one has to get hold of a good electrical expert with a volt meter handy to check every connection to ensure none of the little rascals had a gala time chewing away the wiring on this bike.

Try and work out a deal where you get everything fixed under your watchful eye and make sure they fill all the vital fluids for free or for a certain (negotiated) fee.

If you are not comfortable with the OEM exide battery, try and lookout for AMARON maintenance free battery as an aftermarket option which will serve you well and has a good reputation amongst bikers for being reliable and robust. If your research yields you information from the checklist above that the bike is genuine and good but only needs some TLC in terms of fluid, lubrication and a battery then try and bargain with the sales guys to either get everything repaired on the bike within the agreed sum or else, subtract the amount of required to repair/restore this bike in order to become a functional one.

Kindly note: This is not to discourage you from closing on a deal. Chances are it may actually turn out to be a good bike which remained unsold due to unusual circumstances but as a prospective buyer who is going spend quite a lot of money on procuring this bike, going through Dos and Don't always helps you having a troublefree ownership at a later date and also negotiate with them to get the same on a better rate than you earlier anticipated.

*The bike is unused, i am pretty sure about it. As i told, i work in Hyundai and the GM of Honda dealership(sister concern) is a close friend of mine. I have personally seen these vehicles(quite a bunch of em) lying idle for some long time. Mainly due to some political/labor issues i mentioned earlier. It is not a test drive vehicle for sure

*Yes, the standard two year warranty applicable from the date of sale, so no worries about battery and tires. Although battery is stored separately from the stockyard.

* background check is a good option, thanks for the input.

*Rats is a serious concern, i hope they dint had a party inside. Then its gonna be messed. But as you can see from attached pics, there are many lying around(not rats, CBR's)

I am definitely taking a print out of the page and show it to the service manager, pretty sure his jaw is gonna drop after seeing this.

Well,

from the pictures you have shared with us on this thread, the CBR (i presume the black one) seems to be in a good condition externally. The dirt and grime deposit is quite normal and expected out of any dealer keeping vehicles in a stock yard. I presume you must have seen plenty of such examples with the Hyundai dealer's four wheelers currently lying: out in the open in their yard. If a prospective owner ever sees the way the cars or bikes have been kept in a stock yard, none of us would ever buy anything ever again .

However, there is nothing that cannot be taken care of by a good thorough wash and giving some love with polishing agents. Most of the showroom guys usually follow the same protocol before bringing it in the showroom, in front of the owner.

I believe:

* Since, it is an older (year of manufacture) bike, you should be able to negotiate and fetch a good rate out of the dealer.
* If you are getting the official Honda warranty from the date of sale and you are absolutely sure that it has not clocked some 200 - 300 kms on the MID then i guess it is good buy.
* If it is possible, opt for the ABS model as it has better braking feel than the Non-ABS one. Nissins are way better than the stock Bybres on the Non-ABS. Besides that, mechanically both models are identical.
* Tires: If you can, try and bargain with the dealer to provide you a set of Michelin Pilot Street radial tires with whichever CBR 250R model you are planning to go for and pay the difference you will get from exchanging the stock Contigo tires that come OEM with the CBR. The stock Continental Contigo is the most hated tire by Honda CBR owners and plenty of unpleasentaries have been spoken against it in the Honda CBR 250R ownership thread on xbhp. If the dealer is not willing to offer you a good set of Michelins which will cost around 8.5 - 9k on retail then try and negotiate with him to fix: KTM Duke 200s MRF FC/FC1 (Front) and Ceat Dhoom (Rear) tires which will cost a grand total of around 6 - 6.5k in the market. Or atleast try to bargain for the rear with Michelin Pilot Street Radial. If you can manage to get a good set of shoes on your future purchase, you will be confident and happy when taking your prospective ride on corner carving roads and also get better brake stopping distance which adds to your safety when on public roads.

that's just dust... a wash and polish job will make that baby shine....
but make sure the bike is serviced well and every nook and corner is checked...

also try to ride a friend's cbr etc to get an idea of how the cbr is supposed to feel... goood luck... and welcome to the club.. i assume you are already progressing with the deal.. but do post the price before making any payments...

I have In boxed you the price quoted. But still waiting for the approval part from management, so that i can start with the paper work. But by the end of the day...two questions remain!! Will i look like a bad accessory on it i am lucky to buy one??? i am 5'8 and of lean build. And the usual Desi question" Kitna deti hai"?.....some say, for sane riders usually it returns about 38 max, for insane people anywhere from 25 -30 Kmpl.

did you say your are lean ?? thats good.. you can hit 160 on it then.. lol..

Yeah, Probably il just fly off from the bike when it touches 160, shit...it can do 160.??? good heavens, i thought close to 150 or something. Anyways i am a sane rider, max is about 80 on an RE. But on four wheels i am actually happy to do 150+. Very Rarely though. Feels safe inside,lol

160 speedo indicated. True speed ~148 kmph. Stay below 130 and you'll love it. Best cruising speed on an empty highway with good visibility on this bike is 90-110 kmph. You get decent average too.

It gives you a fair bit of idea about the product right from its launch to what niggling problems were found in the initial batches, how Honda retified the issues with the 2012 and later batches of CBR, how to identify the root cause of a problem etc. By the time you are done reading the ownership thread, you will have all the tools that you need to maintain, troubleshoot and hopefully at a later stage also contribute to the ownership thread on xbhp from your end. Homework/research before making a purchase decision always helps!

* Hondas are typically known for reliability and this model is no different. People have crossed over 1.5 lakh kms on the odo of a CBR and are yet to replace their clutch plates.

The only thing that is holding me back is the price, which i am yet to get a clarity on. Once i am ok with it, you guys will be the first to know. Many Thanks to all who have helped me with loads of info on CBR 250r. As it turns out, i am not able to get a positive response from the accounts head. I guess they are planning on breeding the CBR's

So once again, if the CBR is not gonna work out, i had shortlisted Duke 200 and Pulsar 200NS and in a short distance the Apache rtr 180 ABS.

Read so much about Duke and 200Ns. Many good and bad reviews for both the bike. But as a previous pulsar user(P180), does the chain sprocket sound exist in 200Ns too??? About Apache, heard it cant handle the power, hence vibration is high. I never really thought buying a bike would be this hard.

About my preferences on bike:
*Budget-1.5
*Daily 45 km up and down
*Occasional touring, and plans on long distance in near future
*Mileage(40kmpl, is it too much to ask??) i am a 60's rider, saaaaane rider
*maintenance should not be too harsh for the pocket

I guess that all i can ask for right now. If there are any other options please do suggest
Bikes not interested in: Karizama, Yamaha R15, FZ, CBR 150r)
