    Gixxer, Pulsar 135LS,FZ v2 or 200NS.. First bike?

    Hello XBHPians,

    I am going to buy my first bike next month. I am confused and could really use some advice. Some bikes that I have in mind are:

    1. Pulsar 135 LS (Bit too old? Uncomfortable seating?)
    2. Gixxer (Friend has it, i like it. But since he already has it, we can exchange. So could try some other bike)
    3. FZ V2 (I think the price is bit too much. All reviews say Gixxer is a better buy. I like its looks.)
    4. Pulsar 200 NS (I like this one a lot, but my budget is around 90k. Also a bit old (!!?) )
    5. Trigger (Not very interested about it. Almost no road presence. Considering it only because of the Honda reliability)

    My primary use will be commuting in Bangalore and weekend rides. I am planning to keep the bike for about 6 years (Hence apprehensive about 200 NS).

    My height is 5'10" and weight ~72kg

    Please give me some suggestions. Also open to bikes which havent been listed.

    Irrespective of what your friend owns, buy the motorcycle you want, not what others want you to buy.

    Bikes easily last 6 years, friends rarely do

    I would go for the Gixxer or the Pulsar 200 NS, both look good and are good in the city and as a weekend warrior as well.
    Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

      Do not exchange bikes.Your riding style and your friend's riding style will be different,you may be gentle and your friend may be rough on the throttle.
      Just because your friend has the same bike that does not mean you should deny yourself a good product
      Ride Safe.

        Is 200 NS a tad old? Since 200 SS is coming soon.

        Also is there a possibility 150 NS is available in the showrooms soon? I read that spy photos are leaked and it will be showcased soon. But will it available in showrooms any time soon? (Within 3 months max)

          First and Foremost, Being your first bike, never let anybody else drive your machine (my moto has been the same). It will ruin the engine due to various riding style.

          Having said that, Gixxer a good buy and should serve you well atleast for the next 5 years. You very know the auto industry, who know when those spy shots are going to become reality.
          personally, 150cc bikes from Bajaj hasnt been upto the mark as these loose the sheen after couple of years (my friends 150 makes more noice than a tractor passing by). And for your budget , Gixxer is a apt decision. If you can stretch few more gandhiji's , FZ v2 should be also be a decent buy.

            Pulsar 135 LS - Yes it is old, and about to be discontinued. I would not recommend it.
            Gixxer - very good bike, fresh new looks. Just because your friend owns one, does not mean you shouldn't. Go for it if you like it.
            FZ V2.0 - the price is high because of the technology in it, and very few companies come close to the build quality, fit and finish and reliability of Yamaha. Fuel injection system takes the cost up. Go for it if you can stretch your budget.
            Pulsar 200NS - Best value for money bike you can buy. Being a bajaj, it will not be as smooth and as well made as the japs, but value for money - NS is the one.
            Trigger - Nope.
            Take test rides and then decide what suits you the best.

              I see all the bikes apart from tvs apache rtr 180 abs in this thread. Is it not a worthy competitor here? As a proapective buyer infomartion shred by Apache owners can be helpful. Whats all the fuzz about "vibration beyond imagination"..??

                My friend wait for a pulsar 200SS or else i would suggest you the pulsar 200Ns. I feel its the best bike among that lot. I agree to the point that the bike is dated but it has got a lot more bhp than other mentioned bikes. You won't be dissapointed with the power delivery of that bike considering you are new in this game so 23bhp is fair amount of power for you. Apart from it looks muscular, build quality is fine, spares are cheap and easy to maintain. Most importantly its the bike with highest power to price ratio.

                  I have eliminated 135LS and Trigger. Don't think I'll be waiting for the 200SS since it is expected to cost around 1.3L.. way off my budget.

                  Now the big question is Gixxer vs 200 NS.. In what departments does one bike excel the other??

                  I know in terms of power NS fares better, but will it last 6 years? Will I be running around for maintenance issues with 200 NS?
                  Gixxer makes me happy but I am afraid I might soon feel the need for bit more power.

                  Could you guys help me clear the confusion.

                    Ok....i will tell you that i am using bajaj discover 135 sports edition purchased on 12-12-2007.it start consuming engine oil from 25,000km and i am still using it and i abuse it a lot now i have covered 56,000km(stock engine nothing done except 1seal change).only pickup is drooped and consume engine oil around 150ml after 700km ay high speed.mileage is not affected.i think if i have any other brand engine it will not last so long.

                    The pulsar 200ns is totally different bike from any angle except back loght and front suspension.it gives me 37kmpl while touring with pillion and luggage at 80kmph speed.in city it gives 35-36kmpl.
                    If you r speed freak then get the ns but only if u travel on the highway more itherwise you will not use the power of it.
                    If your running is maximum in the city get amy 150cc bike.
                    The pulsar 200ns just fly on the road very smoothly and you hardly feel sound of the bike

                      NS all the way...Looks, power, pick-up, 6 speed gear box, good refind engine. Not sure if it is a 6 year lasting engine or 4 year lasting engine. My 220 engine was butter smooth for 4 years and i started to suck the life out of it later. It depends how you drive as well. If you are not a speed freak and use speed for your advantage, go for NS, as it a good city and highway commuter too and under 1L, its VFM and A.S.S and spares are also easily available in case.

                          200 NS. Even thou Gixxer is a very very good bike, still the performance of 200NS is no match.
                          Will you really be using the bike for 6 years?
                          I am bored of my Apache in just one year and looking forward to a Duke, Performance matters.

                              Thank you everyone for the response

                              I am more inclined towards P200NS now. The only other bike I have in mind is the Gixxer, but look wise Gixxer's headlight is a turn off. My question is will I have issues with 200NS because I am very new to biking and learnt to ride a bike few months ago. Height of 200NS wont be a problem, I have ridden a friend's NS. Will 200NS be a wrong bike as a "first bike" ?

                              Also I will have to wait a bit more for the NS (2 months) because I want to buy the bike from my own money (atleast most of it). So need to accumulate some stipend :P
