i had posted a similar query in the fuels thread and i got the reply from moderaor that it is ok to fill the R1 with 91 octane provided its either xtra premium or reliance fuels....and he told me it should be fine as long as i dont open up the throttle all of a sudden n load the engine...a few BHP power loss is ok with me as long as it does not cause any long term damage to the engine..could you highlight on the point please...

I am not an expert as far as superbikes are concerned..However, I do think that using 91 octane petrol will eventually harm the engine, for sure. A machine built with high octane fuel in mind would surely not take kindly to anything less than 97 octane!

          well said aryan

@dream: If a company says taht it requires...certain amount of octane in fuel, it should be followed. Else be ready to loose the engine and its power. Later dont complain on the mod plz...

Definately BUSA for me... Coz not a single cop bike on this planet can chase it with a simply skilled SBK rider on it.

guys, if the required type of fuel (high octane) is not available then there is no choice. DreamChaser is speaking of a situation where it is not available anywhere near to his place and that makes it a no choice situation and he has to run the bike on 91 octane fuel. and the bike is not gonna conk off because of this... at least, these machines are built to last and they wont give up any sooner than he decides to sell it off.

Also, I did see Busa's as cop bikes... be aware

Do you plan to get one out of these two bikes, or are you just looking for general opinion? These two are different machines, primarily meant for different purposes, really. However, given the circumstances that these machines would be ridden in (perhaps weekend rides/ short early morning/ late night city spins, etc.), I would suggest you should go for the one you want and you like.

Because, frankly, at the end of the day, you or me won't really be able to make out the power difference between an R1 and the mighty Busa. That's guaranteed!
This is the only useful piece of information in the whole thread. The rest of it is almost rubbish including the talk about Octane seeing the context of riding only in Delhi.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

hey thanks for the help coz i just dont know why high octane is still not being launched in kerela which has one of the highest selling of skodas and bmw's...i dont know about bikes though...ill have to check with the yamaha dealer regarding this issue when i get back home...he will probably have to give me an engine warranty if i am to fill 91 octane and run them....hey one more qn is it only the newer R1's 07,08 models which require strict 97 diet or is it a little relaxed with the 06 n 05 models??any highlight on this please.....
