  • Need suggestions on my first bike

    Hi Guys,
I am starting this thread because i am confused and need suggestions on buying my first bike . I am 23 year old and i know its pretty late for a first bike but thats how it is. I am currently working and my office is around 9 kms from my home, but its a road without much or negligible traffic. I will have to return from office in the middle of the night . My budget stretches from 85 - 1.65 Lacs (exclusively for Duke 200). I had zeroed in on fzs v2 but my brother bought that 1 month ago and so its out of the race. I would also like to know if the newer versions of R15 and Cbr 150r are nearby and if its worth the wait.

Thanks in advance guys. Any help is appreciated.

P.S - Can anyone point out the cons of KTM Duke 200 ( i will have to stretch my budget a lot and would mean a good loan but wanna know if its still worth it)

    I suck at biking though

If you like aggresive riding position and refined engine you can go for R15. It will be within your budget. Practically there are no problems with R15 except pillion seat.

Duke 200 has crazy acceleration, light weight chasis and 25 bhp engine. Duke 200 will cost you around 1.5L. Its also a good machine but maintenance wise slightly expensive but its fun to ride it.

You should test ride both bikes that will make yoy clear which one you want a faired bike or naked.

Also consider p200 NS and upcoming bajaj p200 RS

      Ride safe

What do you mean by this. If your riding sucks, why in the world you even dream of a D200. No offense, but frankly get your riding skills right and go for a bigger powered vehicle.

Coming to your point, CBR150 is not a a good buy at the moment, But what is your kind of liking, Street fighter nakeds, Faired one like R15. R15 is a mix of all, good in city, touring.

PS: I started driving from 25 with a Yamaha YBX, so 23 is not too late .

Unicorn 160 would be ideal. It won't burn the pocket as it has got HET engine (mileage 50kmpl I heard). I test ridden it and Low end torque is better than the other 150ccs

I have plans of getting CBR150R. I went on to enquire the zonal offices too for the new release. All I get to hear is this..."Sir, the launch is not certain. It will be announced through media. Atleast not for the next 3 months. Please go ahead and but the existing model and the services will extend even after the new launch. We service even the outdated 2004 model Honda Activa scooters. Thank you for calling Honda and have a nice day". :P

Consider gixxer, RTR 180 and also pulsar 200 NS. Ride safe!

Duke 200 will be a good buy. You will also get RC 200 for your budget. I will not recommend CBR 150R. R15 is much better sans pillion seat. Pulsur 200 NS and the awaited 200 RC is also good buy. But since you are a noob riding bikes, try to learn well. Duke and RC's are very powerful bikes. Control your acceleration. Be a mature rider. There will be few guys who will try to race you. Dont fall for it. All the best. Happy riding.
It's not about how hard you get hit... It's about how hard you get hit and just keep moving forward.

Your story may not have such a happy beginning... But that doesn't make you who you are... It is the rest of your story... Who you chose to be.

The current model of R15 and Cbr 150r are not an option since the newer versions are around the corner and i also dont wanna spend that much on a 150 cc bike when i can get duke for 20k extra.

My riding skills are below average as my hands tremble when i get boxed in and also with a pillion i am a bit uncomfortable.

I like both naked and faired bikes and intend to have both of them in my garage in time. Currently my confusion is to buy gixxer or wait a few days for Gixxer SF.

Duke is an option but facing a lot of protest at home

I simply love the pulsar 200ns specially the ones which are mono color - Red/blue/yellow, pity they are not available in those colors. I am not sure about the quality of 200ns

RC 200 is way out of my budget atm. It costs 1.96 lacs onroad, even duke is a bit had stretch for me and will involve a hefty loan

Buddy, No offense against your will / wish, But with less confidence in your driving skills, I wouldnt recommend you to go for a higher powered bikes. You are putting not only your life at risk but also your fellow pillion's as well. Get your driving skills straightened out first, then go for it. You have plenty of time to explore the limits. Dont make it a short one....My humble advice to you.

                    Thanks for your advice karthik.

I accept my flaws and that's the reason i am hesitating in going for higher displacement bikes, my bro has bought a fzs v2 a month ago and after riding it i find its power satisfying for city. Its only for highways and touring purpose i was looking for something bigger. Right now i dont know whether to wait for Gixxer sf or go for gixxer.

If you're looking for Highway stability and touring purposes gixxer sf would be the way to go as it'll be having better resistance to wind blasts than the naked one. And since you're new to biking imo don't go for Duke as it has lots of power and could be dangerous for you. R15 is very good and fits your purpose if you exclude the pillion seat. I don't think r15 is going to be upgraded anytime soon or the cbr 150, also consider the new karizma if you're okay with the looks. Take td of all the bikes and decide.

I was hoping that the newer cbr 150r would hit the markets soon as it has been launched in indonesia.

Karizma R is an old model - the engine and chasis, wont pulsar 220 be better than it.

Yes but until it's official I suggest you look into other options. Also the low end torque on the cbr 150 is pretty low. Yes karizma is an old engine but it's good and has good touring capabilities. P220 is also good but imo karizma is better choice. Also consider suzuki gs 150r and the new unicorn 160.

I dont know how the new gixxer sf will be, so wondering if its worth the wait.

I think it would be launched very soon and for your requirements the bike fits the bill. The bike has the same engine as the naked one so surprises there, and imo looks are good on the sf. Pricing is the factor though.
