  • Second Bike!! What to buy

    Hi Guys,

I am a Software Engineer based at Chennai.

I currently own a 2006 Bajaj Discover 125cc and am looking for an upgrade but cannot decide.

I wanted the RC 200 so badly but my friends informed me that it is not good for long distances(not sure if they meant > 100 or less 100) so I kinda dropped it.

Then I was informed of the RS200, so now I am confused between the RS and NS. I do love the new pulsar and the styling in my opinion is absolutely gorgeous.

With ABS and FI, I am also happy that it will be a smooth ride.

So please help me in selecting between the Duke and Pulsar.

    So my questions primarily are:
    1. Is the Duke 200 or RC 200 not suited for long distances? If so exactly how long? All I hear say is not good but not exactly as to how long.

    2. How are the service costs of the RC? I know the Bajaj Service costs are comparatively low because of my Discover

    3. Is there are a better option that I have missed.? I am 5'8 and 68kgs.

    Query Approved

Though i haven't ridden the Pulsar yet, but from pictures it looked as if it had far more comfortable ergonomics than the RC.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

      Hey Arjun,

If you are into faired bikes, Not sure why you had mentioned aout NS here .

Anyways, Wait for the ownership review or read some existing reviews about RS200 and see for yourself. TD both of them and find it. IMO, RC is good city commuter with aggressive styling, not much into touring due to small tank range. RS200, no idea as its brand new to the block

Re: Second Bike!! What to buy

Your budget seems to be a little confusing here seeing as it ranges from NS to RC200. However in case you have the budget for the RC200 (approx 1.9 on road) and are looking for a tourer, consider CBR250R. The service costs are decent and I doubt theres a better touring bike in India in this price range

I currently own a 2006 Bajaj Discover 125cc and am looking for an upgrade but cannot decide.
That's quite normal. You have come to the right place.

I wanted the RC 200 so badly but my friends informed me that it is not good for long distances(not sure if they meant > 100 or less 100) so I kinda dropped it.
Firstly how many kms do you ride? Secondly who exactly are the guys who "informed" you? Bikers or Software guys?

Then I was informed of the RS200, so now I am confused between the RS and NS. I do love the new pulsar and the styling in my opinion is absolutely gorgeous.
Can't comment on this but if you check olx, you'll find a lot of relatively new 200NS for sale. You might want to find out why.

With ABS and FI, I am also happy that it will be a smooth ride.
I don't think that's the primary purpose of ABS & FI.

So please help me in selecting between the Duke and Pulsar.
            Let me try.

            1. Is the Duke 200 or RC 200 not suited for long distances? If so exactly how long? All I hear say is not good but not exactly as to how long.
I was in a dillema regarding the Duke 390 & the RC 390. Most people suggested the Duke as it was more comfortable. The test ride confirmed the same. I suggest you take a test ride of the Duke 200, RC 200, P200NS & RS200.

            2. How are the service costs of the RC? I know the Bajaj Service costs are comparatively low because of my Discover
It's around 5k for the Duke and RC.

            3. Is there are a better option that I have missed.? I am 5'8 and 68kgs.
Royal Enfield Continental GT. Not necessarily better but an option nevertheless. Also check out the Apache RTR 160/180, Yamaha FZ, Suzuki Gixxer.

Personally if I was in your shoes, I would go for the Duke 200.

I mean by RC only when you HAVE a second set of wheels to do daily errands like grocery shopping ,dropping kids to school etc
Rc for those crazy 10 days in a month .
And pls don't have RC for daily commute ,you Will damage your body in the most tortuous manner ,

No reason, why you cannot tour on an RC. Yes, you will take time adjusting to the posture. 1-2 months, Wrist pain, shoulder pain ... Then you you will be adapted to it. But its not at all good for City riding(You might consider keeping your Discover for city rides). If you have spinal problem, then go for Duke. It is extremely comfortable after putting some extra cushion on the seat.
                Go and TEST RIDE....

To be honest, I am worried of the service costs on Honda since ppl I know who own a Honda say that their Service Costs are way high.

I don't mind the styling or category man, I just need a good sporty touring bike that I can use on a regular basis.

No the service costs are not that high. Obviously it'll cost you more than a Pulsar but its not as high as people seem to think. For city commuting I can tell you that its a great bike. No problems even in traffic. I haven't started touring but from what I've read its the best in class when it comes to touring and long rides.

Get the New AS 200. Seems like a perfect fit. And don't pay heed to the naysayers. Any bike can be used for touring. The Biker tours. Not the bike. Of course, it all depends on how the biker wants to tour. I personally have found the Duke 200 perfectly fine for touring longish distances (~800 kms) per day.

Yeah, AS200 seems to be a good bike right in between NS and RS.

But I will mostly go in for the RS200.

And oh BTW, I think you might have added an extra zero.. 800Kms touring per day??

No my friend. Its not an extra zero. 800 kms a day is quite do-able in most of the 200+ cc bikes. Again, it might be a cup of tea for everyone but it is doable. Heck, people on this very forum have done Saddlesore and bum burner rides (1200+ kms a day).
