Ninja 300 seems like an obvious choice but RC390 is also worth considering. Among the upcoming launches Benelli TNT 300

Re: A Touring Bike for my needs..

Ninja 300 is a proven machine and deserves to top your list. Good low-end torque and well-designed fairings are known to be a boon on the highways.
And as shortrider26 has already mentioned, the TNT300 is a very good choice as well. This bike had traveled the entire country during the xBhp 'Thank You Ride'. Everyone in the xBhp team spoke encouraging words about it. Only issue can be spares and service centers.
Had it been launched, the CBR300 would have also been there.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

@shortrider26 @krishna77 Thank you for your Suggestion... Ninja 300 is a great bike i agree with you but few concerns i heard about it is that the maintenance of the bike is a bit on the higher side plus the pillion seat is not that comfortable.. With KTM RC 390 i don't think maintenance should be a worry.. Plus comes with ABS.. but the issue with the light Tyre... i heard they crack.. Did Bajaj given any update on it.. Do correct me if i am wrong..

In case of KTM RC 390. Its VFM bike. But Touring won't be comfortable like Thunderbird.
Sitting position is aggressive.

You can consider Honda CBR 250R.
Its perfect for touring & fits into your pocket both in terms of price & maintenance.

Don't forget to take a look at newly launched AS 200 & RS 200 from Bajaj.

@vikas007sharma Thank you for you suggestion.. yes i agree with you completely that RC 390 is not as comfortable as the Thunderbird.. And i will look into CBR 250R i have never ridden a CBR will try and get a test drive.. AS200 i will give it some time to get some ownership review and stuff to come out... Bajaj after sales service have been a problem faced by many of my friends.. so i am not much inclined to bajaj as such..

@subhajit.karamjee Nothing is wrong with Thunderbird.. In fact i still love my thunderbird and regret the decision i took a year back to sell it.. Thunderbird is also in my radar.. the new one infact looks bulkier and better than the one i owned.. The reason i was looking for other option was my liking for high end sports bikes.. i would like to own one some day so i wanted start with a good beginners bike.. and i love touring so want to mix both of it in a bike...

Now that you say you love thunderbird I would say go for it. Just in case you are willing to compromise on comfort over sports bike, I would suggest RC 390 or TNT 300 both are great bikes.

A CBR250 is the perfect tool for touring/highway runs! The Ninja is a stellar machine too! But yes, the maintenance of a Ninja is on the higher side. Coming from a Thunderbird, I would suggest you to look at the Thunderbird 500, or even the Bullet 500. Both have ample amounts of torque and power to be an even more powerful tourer than the old Thunderbird (assuming it was an AVL350?) Or maybe you could give it some time, and look at the Pulsar 400SS/CS which would be out sometime this year, or even the CBR300 which is due to hit indian shores as well. Fact of the latter is that, we have a whole lot of choices to look at than we had 5 years back! 😁

Cbr250r is a good tourer and under your budget. Maintenance and spares are easy to find and use. One can easily do many kms without much tiring. i would also suggest look at cbr150r first for city and highway use. it has enough hp for our roads and easy on pocket too.

I think cbr 250 is the best choice ... For touring , in terms of look , maintenance and performance .. If you are looking for touring then you should consult with a person you own that bike .. I have used r15v2 and cbr 250 for touring .. I felt cbr250 is better .. On r15 I feel pain on back after a ride of one hour. But I didn't feel that with cbr250 . I haven't tested pulsar 200 for long rides so no comments on that .. On city rides pulsar 200 is excellent. On bullet the only thing I don't like is the vibration I get on handle ... You may feel these are very minute things . But on long rides very thing matters .. Try the bikes you wish to buy ..... Go for the one which you feel comfortable

Re: A Touring Bike for my needs..

I prefer CBR 250R. Although i own CBR 150 but cbrs are natural touring bike with sporty look. Only the problem with cbr 150 is this that it accels slowly in comparison to others but cbr 250 is perfect in each and every case. In case of Rc 390, i would say wait untill the JV of bajaj and ktm broke down. Bajaj is terrible.

Ninja is also a smooth one as it have twin engine.

CBR250 is overrated as a touring machine. Firstly its costly for what it has to offer, the plastic and other parts are of average build. Secondly the power delivery is not very exciting and thirdly the handling is not that great and with saddle bags it worsens even further

Since you have a budget of 3 lac I will suggest Benelli 300 which will be a fantastic machine to tour on. Plus it has the best exhuast note in 300cc class and better than many 600cc bike. If you stretch a little you can opt for Ninja 300

MG sir, no offense to you. But senior member like aargee and others too have done many miles of touring on the CBR250. Especially aargee, who has travelled the length and breadth of this country and not to forget the GQ ride which he did and the bike did not break even a sweat.

I would like to know why this bike is over rated as a tourer and may i know which bikes comes.close to CBR250 when compared to price, maintenance and refinement ?

Power delivery is not very impressive. IMHO CBR can do 100-120 all day long. What more is needed?

Handling is not great, what kind of handling are we setting a benchmark for the 250 ?

I think you have underestimated the bike way too much.

Cheers,
