  • Should I go for R15?

I have been riding Pulsar 180 for past three years. Want to buy new bike now. Here is what I am looking for.
    1) city ride (as I have to go to office everyday 20km up and down)
    2) weekend longride (60-70km up and down)
    3) once in a month a really long trip (200-1000km), I am also looking for enfield (second hand) for this purpose specially.
    4) a bike that would give me pleasure of riding it.

read a lot of review about R15 it seems it suits my need. but few drawbacks with me.
    1) not a good rider (met with accident thrice but not once in last two years, thanks to the fact for last seven months I am not in India).
    2) dont really understand the mechanisms of bike throughly what I mean cant really explain trouble my bike is going through. (I am trying to improve on it)
I am from Pune, city with some good roads to ride your bike.
I dont like ZMA for some reason which i dont know.

If you are looking for style, go for it...
If you wanna zip and vroom in city traffic ... thumbsdown
If you don't care after sales service (I'm from Hyderabad), go for it
But it is really worth its cost...

my 2 cents - i test drove R15 twice and decided against buying it in favour of zma.

        1. Absolutely rubbish low end power delivery... bike comes to life only at high revs - after 6.5K rpms. (Add to that, the test drive R15 was detuned to not rev fully at high rpms, and that really frustrated me)

        2. Riding position - a bit too sporty for my liking, i won't be racing all the time in the city. I need a comfortable riding position.

        3. one of my friend's R15 engine (october 08) has not remained as smooth and refined as it was when new. and he'd followed proper prudence during run-in period. it's nearing 7000 kms now in less than 5 months.

        4. I've seen the way Yamaha service guys look after the bikes - eww. you wouldn't want to give your R15 to a Yamaha service station EVER. add to that, this bike comes tech loaded!

all that apart, it deftly is the most dashing looking sports bike in india (apart from the super expensive super sports), and there's no match for the tech included in this bike - liquid cooled,DiaSiL cyl, Deltabox frame, linked monocross suspension, ~18ps from ~150cc, top speeds of ~130 kmph (actual). go for it if this latter part of my post has impressed you more than the beginning has depressed you

sporty riding position and very wide fixed fairing combined with high turning radius. If that's okay for your city riding, then just go for the R15. Yes, a lot of us are using it in the city daily.

About the ZMA, you might not have liked it as you owned the P180 - it's one time competitor. But then, either way, I suggest you to borrow someone's ZMA for 2 days, use it and see.

I agree to that-its not really very comfy to ride in the city as compared to other bikes with commuterish riding positions. But once you get used to it, it doesn't matter! Btw, will you be using it during peak traffic time? I don't wanna discourage you, but it can give you a slightly tough time when it gets heated up in heavy traffic. That said, when you take her onto a highway, you'll bless yourself for the day you decided to buy her!
More or less, its just the way you look at things&what your biker attitude can take in stride!

On the other hand, why don't you consider the Suzuki GS150R?

I am returning to India only after mid of May. I have zeroed down to an enfield second hand for my loooong Trips as far as Suzuki GSR150 is concerned will it be sensible to buy it after p180. i had look at its specification. its another unicorn I think apart from the shockabs.
As someone mentioned I didnt like ZMA cause I had P180, I think thats very true. I somehow never liked any HH bikes apart from CBZ old model. Plus the mileage of ZMA is horrible. P180 used to give 40+ and ZMA 30+ so I am no way going for ZMA for sure.
are there any new bike coming in future that would match R15

Just for the same reasons mentioned above. Moroever I feel its not worth spending 1+L on R15. I can get something more practical for roads, like P200. But, thats my personal opinion.

Therefore, 100 baat ki ek baat...I said that.
