The best 125cc in market now would probably be the Honda Shine. Has good mechanicals. Only problem is its looks. If you are looking for something youthful and good looking you can always go for stunner. If below 125cc go for Honda Twister (110).

Or if you want a cheaper Stunner go for Hero ignitor :P. Jokes apart, the bike is good. I found it very comfortable and the engine was damn smooth. Comes in good colours too.

Yamaha SS125 is an underrated bike in the segment. If you can find a good Yamaha service centre, no worries at all. The bike looks great, good colours, superb sporty engine and great handling too. Only problem is its fuel efficiency is lower than competition. Maybe 50-55kmpl? Just guessing. Owners can tell you accurately.

Suzuki has its Slingshot. I have not heard many reviews on this bike, but generally suzuki bikes are superbly built, have good engine and decent fuel economy too. Only problem like I told earlier is finding a good suzuki service centre.

I would strongly recommend TVS Pheonix too! Great looks, tons of features and decent pricing. And TVS servicing is decent generally. Only grouse would be its sucky TVS tires!

But I would still recommend you to go for SZ-RR V2.0 if you find a good Yamaha service centre. I guess it is under your budget.

Or Like Shubakv mentioned, try to convince your father by showing him you can ride any motorcycle well! And BTW whatever motorcycle you get, please buy a disc brake version!

    +1

    Totally agree with you

Re: help me choose my first bike

      hi all

firstly thank you all for the suggestion, helping me to choose the best bike! I would like to go for 125cc bikes only

hmm after reading all the points of all , I dont want to chose hero bikes, not going for Honda 110 series, shine is good, but not for me
I am not sure about Suzuki 125cc bikes, SlingShot Plus I don't like it! I am bit confused about TVS Phoenix and Yamaha Saluto , though I heard, there will be tyre issue in tvs , Saluto is new and I have heard good reviews.
mileage is not a big problem, though I travel 16kms per day. and in Bangalore traffic 45-50 kmpl is good enough I think!
one thing I want to know, both tvs and Yamaha, does it come with tubeless tyres

I may choose in between these two bikes. Yamaha or TVS

Re: help me choose my first bike

I don't get why you are blindly leaving out hero bikes. Hero bikes have been moving this whole nation for a long time. Extremely reliable bikes. Any ways the choice is personal.

Saluto is a new bike. Generally Yamaha bikes are well built. But in general all new bikes have some small issues in their first batch. Going by the pic on their website, the bike has CEAT tires which is good thing. But still omission of disc brake comes as a shock. Not even as an option.

Pheonix like I said is a very nice VFM product from TVS. Has some features unseen on other 125cc bikes. Has much more colour options than the saluto (has only two). The major grouse is TVS tires. TVS service is better than Yamaha is general. Yes, both come with tubeless tires. Both bikes should deliver above 60kmpl easily.

If mileage isn't an issue, I would suggest you to go with SS125. Its a fun to drive 125cc. Costs about 4k more than saluto. Has 5 speed gearbox, disc brake and better looks.
Take a test ride of all the bike you consider without fail.

          +1 for that.
If you extend your budget by 4-4.5K from Saluto, you'll get SS125. It's a proven bike. Fun to ride even for long distance.

SS125 rider here. I don't think Saluto can take SS125's place with just 4 gears and no disc brake. The lack of 5th gear will be missed in long rides and the disc brake will be missed in city rides.
Mileage should be better in city rides in Saluto. Comfort and handling should be good (coming from the Yamaha stable).

@Padma: SS125 could still be a good decision if height is not an issue. This bikes gives the best control and comfort for any sub 150 cc bikes and vibration free rides. Open chain could be a concern (many bikes today come with open chain only).

OT: Hope Yamaha brings its blue core technology for the next iteration of its 125cc release (along with 5 speed and disc brake).

i took a test ride on saluto, the height is too much, my toes could not touch the ground firmly, though riding is awesome, but in signals, sudden stops, it will b very difficult. and the look is also not there. well the yamaha dealer , she told me to take yamaha fz s , so i even took the rest ride. personally i felt it light weight and i was very comfortable. toes was touching the ground better than saluto, but to my bad luck , In Bangalore it costs around 96K. took much for 150cc.

yamaha ss 125 was perfect for me!! y did they stopped!

as this will be your first motorcycle. look for comfort and something on which you can ride safely and touch feet either side. power , performance figures all that is for later time. once you get hang on with motorcycles you can always upgrade to something that you like.

look for a lightweight low seat motorcycle. there is a lifetime left. gain the important initial experience gradually move up the ladder.
glad to see a women taking up motorcycling. good luck.
