  • Suggestions to upgrade to a big bike.....

    Hi,

I had already posted a thread asking for best quarter litre bike long back: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/what-bik...itre-bike.html

I was firm on buying a ninja 300 then. But due to office work i had to travel UK. So all plans dropped. Now that I have saved some money here I am planning to buy something bigger. I need some good suggestions for a proper upgrade. My current budget is around 5 to 5.5 lacs.

    My choices:

    1. Kawasaki er6n
    2. Harley street 750 (with firebrand loose cannon exhaust, mirror extenders, foot-pegs, back-rest---- way too much to shell on aftermarket)
    3. Kawasaki ninja 300 (still a better choice)
    4. Yamaha R25/R3 (if it is launched)

    Purpose remains same:
    1. Looks (on top priority)
    2. Faired/Naked (Naked on priority, Faired if comfortable to ride)
    3. Good quality and finish of the bike.
    4. No super-sport riding position, A slight bent while riding is okay.(My height is 5.5 feet)
    5. Purpose (More of a daily commute, Often fun riding)

    Thanks in Advance.

Sorry for asking again and again.

If you are considering ER-6N then why not have a look on Benelli 600i also, it completes almost everything what you need.

Mainly its a inline-4 comes under 6L (personal choice).

Best of luck for your buy

I have checked the price of er6n... It is around 5.5 lakhs. Attaching the screenshot. Benelli 600i is way out of my already stretched budget. Does that mean no good bike in price range for 4 to 5 lakhs?

If people can spend Uncle Sam's money, then why not the Queens. If you can extend by another 50k, go for the TNT 600i. May be with emi for a year should do.
Are you planning to keep this bike for a while, then I would suggest you to extend your options a bit more and see. If you love parallel twins, N300 is the best buy and invest in good after-market items and gears

If your budget is limited under 5.5L, go for ER-6n.

For extra 40K I get the ninja which is the best in the segment. But I never had a lean for ninja 650. It never caught me as ninja 300 did. Benelli is a good choice, no doubt. I didn't consider that because I have absolutely no idea about the build quality and after sales service. And as far as a little extension to my budget goes, i seriously can't stretch it. I have other priorities too . Loan is not an option as I already have a home loan. Isn't er6n a good bike? Is not worth its cost(value for money)? I have always heard kawasakis are for lifetime. Will consider Benelli too... but after a test ride.

                  Look mate.
Expensive bikes are normally bought by two kinds of people.
1: The really passionate crowd, who want to ride fast, in which case the 6F will do a better job, because it has much better wind protection. You will not feel the wind blast. And at speeds of 150+, you would be surprised how much it matters
2: The show off crowd, or as we call them, posers. These buy a bike to show off that they are rich. Something at which the Hyosung 650R and the Ninja 650 again excel, because fairing = more attention.

I don't see the 6n fitting anywhere, except, maybe say, as a less attention grabbing city bike.
But if all you got to do is ride in the city, then save all the money and get a Duke 390. Heck, paint its alloys black, and nobody would even look at you.

You have a point.... Benelli sounds best in the class.... Ninja is not a new bike in the segment. You are making me start things all again. All my research on er6n in vain . Anyways that is the reason I asked suggestion from you guys. Will re-think on my options. But KTM has no chance in my garage.

My 2 cents. Wait for 2-3 months and you'll most probably have a serious contender in R3/R25. Should be enough for city and highway riding. You'll also save some money. Also, you seem to have a fair idea about R15. So, you'll not land up in alien territory.
Else, Benelli 300 is a seriously good bike. But, I don't have a clue about their after sales service and replacement of parts.
If you don't consider them to be underpowered, any bike below 300cc will save you precious cash.

Re: Suggestions to upgrade to a big bike.....

You know I've been researching the same thing for more than a year now. I've taken numerous test rides and done a lot of math for the loan I'll be taking.

All that research culminated plainly in one bike - The Ninja 300. Every single time I put on the thinking hat I end up at the Ninja 300. There is virtually no sense in paying so much for the Ninja 300 when the awesome Ninja 650 is priced a little more than the 300. Why go for the 300 when the 650 makes more power, is engineered at the same level and so on and so forth.

I am looking for a bike that will serve me well as a long distance companion, give me no trouble whatsoever and still listen to me in the city if I need to take her out into the city. While the 650 clearly takes the touring mantle, the 300 seems to me like the more logical choice for the kind of use I've got planned. In short - the 300 is a SPORTS-tourer and the 650 is a sports-TOURER.

You just gotta choose which word is your capitals word.
Don't matter what it is: Touring; Racing; Commuting. All I know is, I belong on the saddle.
