Re: Continental GT or Bullet 500?
Thread Closed on TS' Request
Congrats in advance and i was just about to visit your thread to recommend the GT over the 500. Have been riding the GT for the last one week and it is without doubt the best bike that RE have made till date.Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!
Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Continental GT or Bullet 500?
[MENTION=38752]monk[/MENTION]: Yes I agree but I think it mainly reflects your persona
[MENTION=47074]Divya[/MENTION] Bhai: Bulls eye.
So what changed 24/06/2015 ( Day I decided that I am gonna stick with CGT)
Next day, first thing I did was confirmed to the dealer that I am gonna buy CGT.
Everything was going on great and according to plan till I rode my friends's "SheMonster" (pretty weird name, but my calls her that) on 2nd of July that shook the very foundation of me buying a CGT. Though, In the initial days, I had considered this bike but ruled out due to bad experiences with plastic, having said that, after riding this bike, man.. The power, the ease of handling the bike., the ABS, did mention the power? It's like no other.
So obviously, the next day I went to the KTM store here in Chandigarh and asked for the test ride. The store manager there said "sar, we don't provide test rides.. I said it's written on the bike..Demo bike.. That means for teeesssttt rriiidddeeess.. He said sorry sir.. [emoji22]" well.. that's a new. I had other prior engagements so could not go to another showroom. I already have been called by the RE guys to submit the payments and paperwork as tomorrow was the delivery. I had no other option but to defer yet again for the 4th time. Of course RE guys were furious but he has become a good friend of mine so he accepted this deferment. Plus there is good demand of these bikes in Chandigarh.
Now, some of you.. No, Almost everyone of you will say that.. These bikes belongs to different genre and can't be compared but frankly I guess it's the mixture of the these two bikes I want.. The modern features of duke plus the styling of a GT.
Help me decide guys!!!

I just had the chance to ride my friend's GT on our recent road trip. I rode it for about 500kms. Yes, the styling is killer, and the ladies liked it too
. But coming to the spec part, the katoom beats any bike in the price range, hands down, just because of the sheer output, handling and Metz. And i've been an owner of two bullets before, and i really do not want to comment on the reliability part, as my experience deals only with the AVL and the G2 series. Ultimately it's the everlasting battle between heart and mind. If i were you (i was in your shoes not long back), i'd just take a coin and toss it!
But had our ARAI rules been different, we could've mated a katoom engine onto a GT's frame and voila!
Anyways, good luck on your decision and do keep us posted!

Haha.. When it comes down to these two bikes.. A man cannot be greedy enough..[emoji111]️[emoji111]
About your trip... 500 Kms at a stretch? Were there any pain in arms, wrists, back and butt?
I agree with the comment on D390 on being the best bike in its segment.. I don't even care about the heating problem (2015 D390 claims to have the problem rectified) and chain issues ( breaks down frequently) and the cracking of rims on high speed on potholes, it's something you can live up considering the positives of the bike.
I think I am gonna go for test drive for D390.. In Ambala, Haryana (40-45 Kms) as there is only one showroom in Chandigarh [emoji22] and they don't provide test drives [emoji35]

Re: Continental GT or Bullet 500?
Here you are again
alloys cracking is a thing of the past, clutch is smooth (slipper), engine heat is tolerable n it cools pretty fast, chain is no longer an issue if taken proper care of, hooliganism unlimited

Thanks for the quick update on the parts buddy, do you own this hooligan yourself? Please do let us know with your experiences and pics.. Definitely the pics. [emoji41][emoji41]
So, I again went to Chandigarh KTM, this time, pre-prepared to talk to some senior guy for the ride. As soon as I stepped in.. The place wore a deserted look..not a single soul..without wasting any minute.. I made my way to the hooligan 390..I know someone eventually gonna show up.. Till then let me have a little fun. Here are the few things that I have noticed today.
1) loved the Orange color ok trellis frame and rims.. Don't know if it's gonna fade or not with time.. Is it easy to maintain? Does it fall out with pebbles.. I know it's a silly question but my Karizma rim paint completely fell off due to that..plus the on and off flats. (No I didn't have tubeless tires)
2) seat felt like sitting on a rock but that is something that can be changed.
3) have to get a tail tidy for the hideous number plate arm.
While I was in my world imaging stuff I am going to do on this bike, if I buy it.. Store manager comes and asks me "is there something I can help you with, sir"
I smiled and said how about a test run. Was here day before yesterday but one of your guys refused for a test run.
He apologised and said, I will definitely provide you with a test run but it's gonna be on Monday. As I was not prepared that these guys will actually say yes so I agreed to come on Monday. I spent 5 more minutes with the bike. Took the store manager's number and left the store.

Re: Continental GT or Bullet 500?
Yes, I do own the hooligan myself
paint quality on frame and alloys is top notch. Metzeler is a soft compound tyre, u may get a flat depending upon where n how you ride...I haven't got one yet in my 5k ride experience with D390. Here are some pics.

The pics are the a delight to watch.. Thanks for that buddy..And awesome scenery.. Where were these pic taken?
Okay one last question.. Would you say this bike is a tourer?
Would you consider this bike an upgrade when compared with HH R Karizma (2008)?

[QUOTE=drive_angry;1162940]Yeah I have heard how good the Metz are..but do they get wear off quickly?
Minimum 9k kms n max 13k kms. Soft compound but grips well, expensive. Alternatives - Michelin pilot street, PSD, Mrf rev-c, ceat.
The pics are the a delight to watch.. Thanks for that buddy..And awesome scenery.. Where were these pic taken?
Pics taken en route to Goa from Dharwad via Ramanagara.
Okay one last question.. Would you say this bike is a tourer?
Yes it is. Only drawback is the tank range. Install windshield, get saddle bags, done.
Would you consider this bike an upgrade when compared with HH R Karizma (2008)?
Definitely yes. 44hp, metz, abs, trellis, nikasail coated cylinder, forged pistons, leds, etc. It is called upgrade.
Now, if you can get down from the fence you are sitting on and answer the call of the road...
Good luck with your selection

Re: Continental GT or Bullet 500?
Thanks bro for taking out time and answering all of my questions. Sadly, I am still divided between CGT and D390.
I have my test ride booked for tomorrow for D390 Let's see how it plays out. I will keep you all updated.

Go Retro or Stay Modern , That is the Question ? ( RE Conti GT Cafe Racer vs KTM RC 390 )
Hello fellow Xbhpians ,
I have been an avid follower of Xbhp and Team Bhp for some years now , been visiting forums as a guest in my quest to gain vital knowledge and statistics on our automotive decisions in life . But now , I'm in a dilema that can only be solved and settled with the collaboration of a magnitude of petrolheads and their ignited minds
Before I continue any further , let me put down some details about me and my situation . I'm a light built 5'9" guy , age 26 and weigh approx 70kgs ( Im skinny ) and my elder brother is of the same physical build but of 32 years of age . We live in Noida ( Delhi NCR ) and most of our commutes are City based and some trips to Delhi / Gurgaon / Dwarka , depending on work / family requirements . I happen to be a student at a college in Greater Noida ( which must not be named
) and my everyday tripmeter reads 80-90 kms minimum , on some days with friends making some plans it ends up at 120-150kms .
Currently , we both are using cars as the traffic and weather conditions multiplied with the concerns of Indian Parents on the safety of motobikes has not allowed us to purchase any decent motorbike in the recent years . Last such decision was made 3 years back , we wanted the Yamaha R15 v2.0 , but had to buy the Maruti Suzuki Swift Diesel to satisfy the hearts and minds of parents and relatives
This time , things are different ( rubbing hands
) , with the constant need for more land for us humans to consume , we are running low on parking spaces and space on the roads too , thanks to the surplus Indian population with the motto of " Hum Do , Humare Do ... Dozen "
The time has come to buy a bike . And currently there are only 2 contenders that seem to woo me and my brother in each and every way possible .
#1 : The Royal Enfield Continental GT Cafe Racer
#2 : The KTM RC 390
Now , as Dom Toretto and Brian O'Connor would argue over in the Fast n Furious series whether Muscle is better or Tuner , me and my brother are stuck in a similar dilema , for we love them both ( the bikes , duh )
The only major concern would be practicality , ease of rideability , build quality , customer relations and service of the brand and the pleasure of riding the machine . The resale value is something we dont care much about , but would be a good thing to tell our father about , or in case we plan on selling the bike after a decade
which I dont reckon or plan on to , but then , Life is never a certain thing .
An important thing I would like to keep in mind is my return to biking after a long period of time and with quite less experience too . I have ridden a ton of scooters , mopeds and activas , a bike with the modern 1 down 5 up gearbox is something I havent spent much time on . So there will be the obvious need for me to spend a week or two just getting to know the machine down to the bone and at very low speeds , inside my locality .
I test rode the RE Continental GT Cafe Racer few days ago , I loved the feel of the engine ... hated the steering , it was a tad too heavy for me and was a pain on the palms and the wrists . But I reckon a slight adjustment of the clip on handlebars would do the trick .
Right now the main point of the arguement would be weight of the bike as it is not something you can control like the power of a bike by the twist of the wrist , but it is alike any other aspect of any vehicle . You develop a hang of it in due time spent knowing the machine that you loathe .
Thanks and Regards to you all
I hope this post is acceptable by Xbhp forums standard , it is my first post as well .
Please be kind and rewind
And then the lord said "Let there be Bike": And there was bike
And the lord saw the bike, and it was Goooood!
