  • Help me to convince my parents

I know the topic itself is funny but hold your horses and read my post
My parents promised to get me a bike this year ( no budget barrier). As this will be my first bike.. yes first bike, so I want a 150-200cc bike as I lack confidence in riding 200cc+ bikes. I've ridden pulsar 135, that too for not more than 100KM.
Please give me your valuable suggestion considering my preferences listed below.

Budget- no budget barrier but I have marked it to 1.5L as this will be my very first bike!
    70-80KM per week(City riding)

    Additional info:
    Age-18
    Height-5'8''
    Weight-57KG

    Bikes shortlisted -
    Pulsar 200ns
    CBR 150R
    Duke 200( soft corner)

My parents wanted to see the pictures of the bikes I shortlisted and they said big "NO" !!
Reason- Tyres look like truck's tyre
My Parents said they can get me 3 Apache 180rtr if I want, but no bike from those three I mentioned above!
How do i convince them? please help me. I know I am not the only one with this issue.
    Shower me with your Ideas

And nearest KTM showroom is 300KM away from the place I live , so how do I bring the bike to my place Ride it ?
As the bike will be in running period,so 300KM ride is not a good idea.. is it ?

    Query Approved

You sound like a responsible young man with your self restraint of budget and capacity, so i advise as below.

Since you have just 100km of riding experience or so i inferred from your post. It might be a good idea to buy any 150cc bike second hand, use it for a year, learn how to ride maintain and look after a motorcycle. And after a year you will be better informed in all respects to make a good decision of buying your dream bike.

I know at 18, getting a new bike is far more tempting, but the above is advice from the head and not heart.

All the best and ride safe irrespective of what you buy
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

The advice given by Monk is the best advice you can get. It makes a lot more sense and will prove better for you in the long run.
If i had to choose, the R15 would be my choice. It is just a fun bike to ride..!!

As I've read in forums - getting a second hand bike in India is a bad idea!! I would readily go for second hand bikes from a known person but, as I used to live in a hostel (KG's-12th) in West Bengal so I hardly know people at my place

You can get help in identifying a good condition bike when you are going for the used market.
But the thing about new bikes, a lot of the new bikes do also comes with niggles and problems, but the difference being the solution to the problem will be more prompt from the svc side, it being a new bike/customer and so on.
Even though it is always a better advice to get a good condition second hand bike, the final decision is based on your discretion.

To be honest I love R15 but every other guy in my town owns an R15 .. R15 is too mainstream here !!
So I want myself to get a "hatke" bike !! And the "two storey" pillion seat on R15 is also an issue so I've switched R15 with 150r in my list

The CBR 150 is terribly overpriced for that matter and doesn't look as attractive to the R15 too in design(personal opinion).
You could give teh AS200 or the NS200 a try then. AS will be more hatke as it's new in the market and not so common, and the fact that it looks awesome is also a plus point.
But then its character is a high contrast difference to that of the R15,CBR150 duo.

I was like you during my college days...I used to drive my dad YBX-125 around the locality and get some practice of some real-time traffic (not chaotic). I would have hardly driven less than 500km in those 4-5 years. But, I then jumped to a P220 straight and learnt even better in that.

If you can convince then to change your bike after 2 years or so (if you are planning to get a 2nd hand), then you can think of upgrading to 200NS or D200 (Hope they are available after 2-3 years with the amount of competition).

If you think, that is not possible, I would recommend you to buy a Gixxer or FZ v2 and get a good feel of your driving skills (They are not very much powerful like NS or D200, but fun enough to keep you occupied for a while atleast).

CBR150R is definitely a NO-NO. Its an outgoing model and way-overpriced than the rest in its category.

My 2 cents will be, Go for FZ or Gixxer, Take it for 4-5 years, When you have grown mature enough, Get a bigger one, like a quarter-litre.

Re: Help me to convince my parents

                    +1 for that.
And for a good quality second hand bike, get in touch with the bank people from the bike showroom. People who take two-wheeler loans sometimes default and hence banks forfeit their vehicles. There are many bikes which are below 1-1.5 years and are sold/auctioned at a relatively low price. What's more, the paperwork is a lot clearer here. Believe me, paperwork is one of the things which will make you scratch your head in the second hand market. You can get some good quality riding gears with that spare amount.
After a good 2-3 years on the saddle, you are most likely to be richer in terms of experience and cash. You can still have a considerable amount of cash by selling off your bike to a third owner. Then you can think of maybe a 250-300cc bike. Hopefully, we are going to see some interesting entrants in India in the upcoming 2-3 years.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

You're absolutely correct! I had a chat regarding this with my parents and they said not to get a second hand bike , Instead they asked me to choose a bike under 1L and in the early 2017 I can get a bike of my choice. I can get 200ns for around 1L but as my Dad will retire on January 2017 and he'll be back home. So I was thinking to get Yamaha FZ and when my Dad retires I'll give this bike to my Dad and upgrade to another. As it'll be tough for my Dad to ride 200ns, so no to NS.
I went to the showroom , OTR price quoted for the FZ is 95K , no booking/waiting period. I will get myself a bike this JULY(100% sure.. Unless something goes wrong). So my question is, Is there any bike that can compete against FZ.( personally I don't like the looks of gixxer, so no to gixxer) . And if FZ, then which colour should I get ?(least prone to scratches). Please bear with me , I'm totally noob at biking [emoji51]

Gixxer would have been the ideal choice, but since you said it is not in your list, then there is no other bike in the 150cc with a better package at your budget point, the only other bike would be the R15, which is out of your budget, but hey..why not test ride the gixxer, you might be surprised ;-)
