  • Pulsar 200 NS/AS or Pulsar 220

I used to own a hunk and am now looking for an upgrade. Should I go for the NS/AS or should I buy the 220? I will be using the bike mostly for commuting as I am not much of a tourer.
    My criteria for selection are:

    Handling and Braking.
    Reliability.
    City traffic maneuvering.
    Decent mileage for it's class.

Also can roadside mechanics repair the 200 NS in case something happens far away from the SVC? I could ride the hunk comfortably and handle it's height. Will the NS' height be a problem?

    Query Approved

The NS would be ideal for you. Would the height be a problem for you? Difficult to say if you do not tell us what your height is!!!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Thank you for approving my question. I am around 5'8. And could plant my feet down from the saddle of the hunk.

Currently in Chennai(dont know about other cities) ns is not available. Dealers are telling that the production of ns has been stopped by bajaj.

Don't buy the Pulsar 200ns or the 220 as they have a high seating and front heavy weight. You will get tired within few days. I would rather recommend Gixxer SF.

By upgrade, I guess you are looking for a bike with 200cc min by the examples you had given. This is still a grey area for people looking for a bike at this cc range. I guess bajaj's bikes and KTM duke 200 are the only options now.

CBR250 might be another choice but the price is double from Bajaj's offering.
So it comes down to these bikes with price also increasing

            AS200, NS200
            Duke 200 / RS200
            CBR250

              Re: Pulsar 200 NS/AS or Pulsar 220

If only city commuting is on the list why not consider commuter bikes.

And all the above bikes you mentioned, will be an overkill for city, in terrms of mileage. You can hardly squeeze above 40 in city traffics.

Best bet would be to get the unicorn 160, decent riding position, pillion comfort and mileage will always hover north of 55. Easy on pocket too.

Unicorn will not be a leap ahead upgrade considering you ride a hunk. But it will get the job done in city very nicely.

If flamboyance is the need, gixxer/gixxer sf all the way, but pillion will suffer on long rides.

Coming to NS, its a proven engine with niggles which are acceptable. But bajaj has stopped it in order to promote the AS/RS. That is what I have learnt from the NS thread, the pillion seat is tall second to R15 V2. and mileage will not be that great in city.

Not discouraging the TS here. In the end go with the heart and not mind. Less regret later

              Edit post.

Pulsar 220 has already served us in the best way, its time to wave goodbye to it and make way for newer generation to come in.

              Cheers,
              Sanjay

You need to read the gixxer thread, as to how they are coping with the pillion comfort.

My personal experience, it won't suit the pillion and if pillion is like the age of our mother, you will have complains.

My friend rides a ktm duke 200 and carries a pillion (his GF) to and from office daily, never heard any complains.

It also boils down to the pillion, how he /she defines comfort.

                  Cheers,
                  Sanjay

I am sorry But I wouldn't recommend ANY Bajaj Bikes RIGHT NOW.They are suffering with Serious Quality Issues.

                    I would suggest Yamaha R15,TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS,Duke 200

For your Hieght,RTR is the Best Trust me on that.ABS is a Life-saving Safety feature too.I can post some pictures of it too
