  • Dio vs Aviator vs New Activa

alrite guys... so, my friend's college going brother needs a ride. but at the same time, it would be used by his dad too in need (not occasionally but frequently).
so thought a scooter does well here. now things looks neat and reliable from Honda stables. but which one is a allrounder, ie, decent mileage + decent performance + good looks (masculine rather. a big no-no to scooty pep, etc! ).

    1. New Activa - the old activa is a great ride but i felt it a bit too bulky looking with lesser aerodynamics (comparitively in cars - like the swift in hatchbacks. some like it, some dont.)
so how is the new activa gonna be? any inside peeks/reviews?

    2. Dio - great looks. good performer. good pickup. so whats wrong with this machine? something has to be wrong! right?

    3. Aviator - i got no idea on this one. havent ridden it. so any reviews?
by looks, i found the dome a bit too dull and funny. the scoot looks masculine from the back but the small funny shaped dome is kinda spoilsport.

    so, which one to buy?!

also, where can i get some info on Blaze. great scooterette. but whats the cost, mileage, etc, etc of this one.

Note: above 3 points are my personal opinion and not intended to disturb anyones feelings! peace!

Wait for the new Activa. I am sure it would be better than Dio and Aviator. Do not take the plunge now. Mostly, they are going to launch new Activa this month.

Stay away from Blaze. You are gonna buy a white elephant.

If you have to buy soon and cannot wait, just go for Aviator. Excellent scooter. My friend has been using this. He is loving it.

^ yup, expectations are high on the new activa. hope it lives up and maintains the rep. Blaze is.... well... errr... yeah true.

frankly, i am totally confused on how to compare scooters! just realized its a different world altogether.
even if i am to wait for another month, i needed to know which is the best scooter to buy currently in India - for Men. and how did anybody end up deciding on it! if this is known, comparison with new Activa would be easy as i would have the best to compare with.

We hardly have any choice in hand when it comes to scooter.Either its girl oriented scooty or unisex scooter(read more suited for small time load carrying and multiple usage).

Dio is termed as a motoscooter but actually its the same activa mill(Search for any motoscooter in EU countries then you will know how a motoscooter looks and behaves like).

The only real design that happened to India was Blaze but as Ravi said its better not to touch it unless you are hell bent on experimenting.

So that leaves us with Aviator which is most suited scooter for men(If you can stand that funny looking face).

Knowing Honda and its strong liking for mass market they will not do anything radical with Activa. Some changes here and there to enhance the family feel.

yeah true said, all scooters are basically girl oriented or unisex. but i was looking for the better of the lot. for men.
by what i read, Blaze is the first motoscooter in India. but not opting for it now.
Dio has the same activa mill but looks better.

so its the Aviator. but living with that ugly dome is a tough job.
and, dont want to opt for this just because its for men. if compared with Dio (for now), which one of them stands out as a good overall performer?
if i get this stats, comparing it with new Activa would be easy. right?

The overall performance of Dio and Aviator is exactly same(Dio can be little faster beacuse its lighter in comparison).Aviator has an upper hand only in terms of handling because of bigger dia wheels.

well the only negative point in Dio is it;s all plastic body. which probably cannot be insured. (plastic part) So it's bit expensive if you face a fall on Dio. Apart from this point... i don't see anyother (-)ve point in Dio.

Activa is a ageing scoot now. thats why we are getting a new one soon.

So i would say that you already said that you cannot love the funny face of aviator so better wait for a new Activa and then compare it with Dio and Select the one you like most.

By the way why so many precautionary words for Blaze? whats actually wrong with it????

Aviator comes with disc brakes and the suspension is Telescopic. The handling of the AViator is far better than a Dio. Given me a choice, I would opt for aviator. Though, I did not like the Aviator at first, it looked better now.

I have ridden both Dio and Aviator and Aviator is far better than Dio. The pick-up is marginally better in Aviator (remember, the engine is tuned a bit).

Even the underseat storage is very good in Aviator than Dio.

^ thanks. thats some info. and club that with bigger wheels as MG said. aviator stands out.

@sheery: some cons i 'heard' of:
fit and finish and plastics, tyres too small and jammed to remove, less storage for bigger helmets, problem with that autogear setup, horns, lights... duh!

Wait for the new Activa man. Guess honda would launch a premium version with disc brakes and may be a PGM-FI version. I guess the new version would be ranked high in features to compete Access and Flyte. Though Aviator is aimed at that, it did not really catch up.

Its like saying the Karizma has been tuned over its year of existence.

After shadez posted I checked with a very senior official in Honda to know whether there is any difference in engine and he said "No".

MG, I do not know about this, but all the mags who tested the Aviator told the engine is in a different state of tuning. The top speed even increased than Activa. Let me check the trorque figures.
