  • Which bike for 1lakh?

    Hey Guys,

I'm highly confused with these two bikes... My priorities are

    1. Decent Power (I owned 2007 Karizma R)
    2. Good touring capabilities (Upright seating posture, wind shield, Semi or Fully faired etc.)
    3. Engine should be smooth (if not butter smooth at least while cruising at 100 kmph)
    4. Decent pillion comfort
    5. Price less than 2 Lacs on road

Suzuki Gixxer SF - All my priorities met in this bike EXCEPT Power.. Just madly in love with this bike but doesn't last long in practical life with machines .. have test ridden it and felt hell very very comfortable than Karizma.. excellent low and mid range... could ride in high speeds... rode at 70 kmph max 3rd gear... and boy... hardly any vibrations in the foot pegs... Must salute Suzuki for such a high class engine... since i've not ridden this bike in high speed.. not sure if it's good cruising at 100 kmph...

Pulsar RS 200 - Everything is good except Engine refinement and build quality.. Though the NVH levels are less compared to NS... i heard that vibes are still there... i cannot bear more vibes... especially on handle bar and seat... and other thing is build quality... it was below average... there was panel gaps and inconsistent fit and finish... also read in reviews that after only thousand kilometers... you'll hear the fearing humming which is really annoying at times... and the BAJAJ PULSAR brand... i have also heard that after 2-3 years .. the engine vibrates more... and also the maintenance starts... are they really improved now in terms of engine refinement is the big question for me...

Pulsar AS 200 - Good bike except that it's not fuel injected and refinement is less as compared to RS (i heard / read the reviews). and the usual pulsar brand comes in a way to take 1 step back when i think about the engine....

Not sue... Should I go with Gixxer SF just for the love of this bike... is it really less powerful as compared to Karizma... OR should I go for the Pulsar RS200 ???

    Query Approved

The Gixxer around 80kmph is good. Beyond that for prolonged periods you will be stressing it. Also after a Karizma a 150 will feel not quite right.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

        +1 to the above post.

A 150 cc motor will not satisfy you even for a day after the 223 cc karzima.

A CBR250R would be a proper upgrade for you, in terms of increase in power, engine refinement, touring comfort, fit and finish and overall quality.

Take test ride and then decide.

+ 1 to the above post. Cbr250 is a valid option.
You might want to wait for new cbr 250r or cbr 300r, though it might take forever.

You can consider the CBR250 and the AS200. The RS is a good machine, but coming from a tourer's perspective, living with a carb is more stress free than an FI. I'm lucky to have both these bikes in my stable. The AS IMO Is the most comfy tourer on the block right now! Take a test drive and go with the one that Yu like the most!

            Good luck!

              Which bike for 1lakh?

              Hi all
I want to buy a bike under rs 1,00,000 for touring. My requirements are good riding position, decent power, comfortable for long rides. Currently I'm using Tvs Victor gl and have been to Spiti valley on it, but it lacks power. I love doing off-roading so bike should be able to do so.
I have Apache 180ABS in my mind(for riding position I'm going to change its clip-ons handlebars). Don't want to buy Bajaj bikes.
              TIA

Go for the AS 200.carburetor or FI doesn't Matter in India.
And no nothing Luke that for pulsars.rememebt never about the months but about the kilometers for mantainance.change the engine oil and that's about it

why would you say so. Fi machines are more reliable and more flexible as per the terrain. and i havent really heard Fi failing anytime unless abused/left for long (bar RE). Fi any day over carb be it anything...

i would like to know your thoughts too.

A roadside mechanic can't fix them *IF* something goes wrong.

chances of failure are far lesser too. won't you agree ??
tell me one case we have seen here where someone responded that he was stranded on road city/highway for the Fi gave up.
however i can tell you numerous instances where machines failed due to "carb me kachra aa gaya saar " we grew up listening this. din't we ?

Also, the Fi pump always needs to be immersed in fuel. And if you run dry, its a costly replacement. And sometimes when touring, you really need to extract the last drop.

And the carb mein kachra is bygone, with improving fuel quality.

agreed on the pump to me immersed part. but when we tour we plan ahead for our fuel stops. which every long distance tourer agree.
for every thing we have pros and cons. yes carb is easy to fix and maintain but also an extra effort with changing elevation and riding conditions.

with Fi you get crisp and linear throttle response and at-least 5-6 years of no nonsense service.
adequate fueling as per the usage.

Well, it's just a personal opinion. If according to murphy's law, an FI wears out in the middle of the highway at night, during a road trip, I'm booking an ola cab and coming back home. Whereas with a carb, I can at least say that I can open it up, check what's wrong, and probably have a higher chance of fixing it rather than an FI.

Secondly, I'm always on the edge when the last bar on the ceeber starts blinking! My exact thoughts are "Oh Lord! Please let me go to the nearest petrol pump without burning out the FI!"

I have absolutely no complaints about performance or anything, but growing up with bullets and yezdis, I feel I would be better at fixing a carb myself than am FI. This is just a personal opinion, so I might be terribly wrong as well! 😃
