  • Time for an upgrade after 14 Years

Hi Experts and Enthusiasts alike. I require your opinions.

    1. Budget: 3L. I will be taking a loan for 3LS and have saved up around 80k separate
    2. Age: 29
    3. Height: 5'10
    4. Weight: 75
    5. Intended usage : Once a week to office(this may not even happen), weekend trips, Short rides within city. I don't get much time to ride but I am fed up with my current bike.
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement (approx., if any): Should at least give more than 25Kmpl
    7. City & Highway percentage usage: I would say 30/70
    8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running: around 8 times a month, definitely not daily. Busy office schedule can make me leave my bike untouched for weeks.
    9. City / Town /Village of residence : Bangalore(central: Old airport road area): There is no mud road where I live and I have sheltered parking.
    10. Brand / Bike type preference (if any): Honda, Yamaha, Benelli, Hyosung, Kawasaki/ The sports type (naked or fairing)

    More points:
    >I am looking for a Vibration free bike.
    >I heard that single cylinder bikes all have vibrations. hence I am more inclined towards twins.
    >no need for ABS. I am not the crazy guy who rides like his bottom is on fire.
    >I like bikes with a fairing but sadly all of these a super expensive and don't seem to be that much value for money.
    >I have never driver a bike more than 150CC (I have driver R15, and plsar150)
    >I have been drive my age old Splendor for the past 14 years and now this bike is tool old to even keep up with Bangalore traffic speeds.
    >I have no problems with aggressive riding positions. I like R15 a lot. Its a beautiful machine but sort of vibrates a little.
    >Some Loan advice will be appreciated.

Please do not suggest pulsars or Enfields.

    Query Approved

The Benelli 300 seems to fit your requirements. Though i do not know the on-road price of the bike in Bangalore.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Apart for TNT300, Consider Mahindra Mojo as well as it will be launching very soon.

          Thanks but, Oh GOD NO.
That bike is a disaster in the looks department.
Its like they wanted to put all premium parts together but didn't know how lol

for comparison, consider those cheap mods where a they would fit a pulsar headlight, duke's tank, cbr's seat and r15's tail on a splendor

KTM Duke 390 for value for money no doubt. Or Kawasaki Z250 if you shell out the dough. Benelli TNT 300 is also a great bike.

Anyways on topic: For starters you could look into CBR 250R if you are not interested in the D390.

Consider cbr 250R, z250/SL, benelli tnt 300, tnt 250 (coming soon)

You have a retry good budget. So choose as per your needs. If you can stretch for ninja 300 then it's vfm

I have heard that Duke has a lot of vibrations. I hate my current bike for vibrations. Its like an allergy that refuses to go and makes me wanna go as slow as possible.

Yes, I was asthmatic and could not go to tuition classes after school as I would get super tired.
Bike didn't really help as I was too weak to handle it. Mind you its a Hero Honda Splendor that I am talking about.
                        Yea, I was very thin.

Yes you are right. Splendor is a great VFM bike with great reliability but now its just too old for going fast or keeping up with bangalore traffic speeds.

I do like CBR250 and the new colors have got me interested. However, I really wanted to get the old Silver RIM colors. That just made the bike look sexy.

I think z250 costs as much as Yamaha R3. I would rather go for r3, no?
You are right about the Ninja but that bike is just way too much of money that will be taking a loan for
I guess I really need to test ride TNT and CBR250 as both of these are definitely more powerful than my splendor I just need to check the ride comfort and Vibrations are different RPM ranges.

hehe Mahindra probably should stick to making 4 wheelers. You cannot apply a 4 wheelers brain to make a 2 WHeeler.
You will always end up in making an abomination of a bike like mojo.
Even the name is a f'up, sounds like the specific department was high on pot and said, "You know what lets name it mojo hmmm~~"

If you say "I'm allergic to vibrations", then stay away from 390 series forever(Duke/RC). KTM390 is already on the verge of the single Cylinder. Another eg is RE, you know what an actual vibration means when you ride an RE >100kph. I'd even advice to stay off from single cyl engine.

Yes, I was asthmatic and could not go to tuition classes after school as I would get super tired.

I believe riding at a sane speed 40-50 kph for a 110cc bike should keep vibrations at minimum. Every bike of course has it's range

I do like CBR250 and the new colors have got me interested. However, I really wanted to get the old Silver RIM colors. That just made the bike look sexy.
CB250, is a great bike (ABS, fairing, stability, less maintenance etc) especially for a rider coming from 110cc. But again for a budget of 3L+, you don't need to look down.

I think z250 costs as much as Yamaha R3. I would rather go for r3, no?
Yes you will be paying more for brand name here but I'd say worth it, trust me

You are right about the Ninja but that bike is just way too much of money that will be taking a loan for

Please don't judge the book by it's cover - it's that simple. Let the bike come out, do TD and "let some batches roll out", only then we can actually comment. It's actually a welcoming move that another Indian company is coming into performance biking. Unlike other brands, Mahindra can invest enough money to provide more service and upgrades. Also these 5 years of development and hard testing should result in positive.

So please don't discourage a product just for it's name/look. You know, looks are subjective and for a perfect biker it's all about how well the bike performs end of the day
I see R3 or TNT 300 as you choice for the budget. If you are fairing lover and want a sporty and sharp handler, go for R3 else stick with TNT 300 (a casual cruiser with enough power on tap). Remember, R3 is more powerful than TNT 300, because you get the power kicking very late in TNT300 (comparing with R3).

I think its more like the same on both of these.
I saw many reviews of R3 and not so many on TNT but people reviewing r3 said that it also has power on the higher range.
One welcome note that I read(or rather did not hear) was that r3 has absolutely no vibrations even when its redlining.
Another smooth bike is the Hyosung GT250R but that is a very big and uncomfortable bike when it comes to riding position.(read tank slapping at bumps)

Since my current bike vibrates like a drill I believe I may not have any issues with even CBR lol
I will try to go to showrooms to take a test ride.

Correct me if I am wrong, but will I get a test ride if I just walk-in or do I have to call prior to my visit?

Correct me if I am wrong, but will I get a test ride if I just walk-in or do I have to call prior to my visit?
Few showrooms take prior appointments so find a nearby showroom and make a call before you go.
