  • Suggest me my first bike

i have been planning to buy a bike for some time now. i read a lot of posts here and elsewhere and finally settled on Suzuki GS 150R. Unfortunately, when today i tried calling some suzuki dealers and got bad news that production of the bike has been discontinued and its not available here (Thane, Mumbai area). I felt really sad at this as i been contemplating to buy a bike for a long time and took time to finalize my kind of bike.

    My preferences were:
    > Since i am on heavy side 95 kgs, height 5'7", i wanted a 150 cc engine bike to keep me afloat and power thru when reqd.
    >Bike should be comfortable to ride in, whether small or long rides. i have read of back aches and cramps due to bad sitting posture.
    > FE to be decently good (aournd 50 kmpl is fine for me)
    > Reliability and low maintenance are imp key for me for my bike.

Now i am facing a dilemma what to do: choose between existing bikes (may be Unicorn 160) or keep calling those dealers, simulatenosly bug the company for GS availability or wait for new models from Suzuki side?

i still havent kept in mind the ASS of suzuki and going by rider and owner reviews.

    Advice needed!!

    thank you,
    Tarun

    Query Approved

The Suzuki GS150 is a wonderful bike and does its job wonderfully. Problem is due to the low demand, showrooms have stopped stocking it. Though officially the company is still selling it. You can pester those guys to order and get it for you. But think if buying a bike requires so much effort on your part, how much running around you will be made to once you have bought the bike for spares etc. Do you want to take a chance with that.

The Honda Unicorn 160 on the other hand, should be easily available and it should do everything that the GS150 does. You can also check the Yamaha SZ series.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

I dont want to question your choice but why not go for a Gixxer?

Re: Suggest me my first bike

Gixxer is a bit more on the sporty side. i like the conventional design of bike, hence i lean towards the models with conventional look. i am thinking to wait if more models can be announced which can give me a good comparison.

Better go with unicorn 160, its everything the dazzler is and though it's new, spares won't be a problem, check out cb hornet from Honda, if u can wait for it.

I too second what Mr.Avinash has suggested you.

Go for Unicorn 160. Should fit your requirement in every aspect. Being a commuter bike, Spares availability is of no concern here.

Apart from unicorn 160, you can also go for pulser 150, that's also a good bike as per your requirement. I also suggest tvs Apache 160
              Vidhu AKA DD

              YAMAHA RXZ 5-Speed 2004

You can go for Unicorn 160, but 50Kmpl can be difficult to achieve on most 150cc bikes if you ride in heavy traffic!

Check out the SZ-RR(Blue Core). Has conventional looks, instrument cluster and a very refined engine along with a good low-end torque and comfort. Suits the bill perfectly. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed.
From others, Uni160 can also be considered.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

I don't think so. It's the SS-125 and YBR-125 that has got discontinued. SZ-RR is still there on Yamaha India's website.

Maybe this is an issue with stock availability. My colleague bought one last month.

Hi tarun welcome to xbhp. If you ask me well go for pulsar 180 ug4 seriously what all points you have mentioned you will get it in this bike I have this bike for like more than 5 years and believe me this is a true best machine which will never disappoint you ever. Trust me on this but yes one thing which I was doing is that I have always used moto 4 gold 20w50 engine oil from day one in an interval of few. First engineer oil change in 350,750,1200 then I continued to change the oil in every 2000 km. Believe meet the bike is great comfortable without any problems. Trust me even the spare parts are not to expensive also it is a las maintainable bike. Only thing is lubrication of the chain with motul every 500 km and engine oil rest assured you will never have any issues with this bike. Trust on my experience which I am sharing with you. Good luck
