Re: Suggest me my first bike

i decided to go into detail yesterday with the production rumours of GS 150R. i called up their factory unit, then their office in New Delhi where it was confirmed that the bike produciton has been temporarily stopped and there is no news of when it would restart. They might be coming with new models in Feb 2016 but in which category is also not clear.

Krishna77--thanks for the suggestion. i happened to looked at the Yamaha SZ-RR ver 2 on yamaha site. The bike looks good in specs, is cheap compared to its class bikes. Ownership reviews of old version are good with minor issues. i need to check with dealer if these are avl here (w.r.t what coolharsh91 has pointed out).

whatever i have read in the ownership forums is that japanese brand bikes are much better in engine refinement, reliability, maintenance and performance (both engine and overall perf) as compared to Bajaj. That is one of the main reasons i am inlcined towards Suzuki/Honda/Yamaha. pls correct me if i am wrong here (since i never owned a bike so my exp is just based on reading others experiences).

i went over Unicorn CB 160 reviews also. It looks like 150cc unicorn was better in performance than 160cc one. The 160cc one is lighter and the ownership reviews are mixed. can someone throw some light on Unicorn 160 performance, comfort level and rideability.

i happened to look at the upcoming hornet too. I am not sure whether it will be much different as Unicorn but little skeptical because it hasnt been out yet and there are no reviews as well about it.

folks, any other bikes that i can consider?

I Finally picked up my new Unicorn 160 CBS from showroom last Friday. i was waiting for the number to be alloted to bike. Took my friend with me and rode for around 20-25 kms on the first night itself. It felt like a breeze, the suspension is amazing and the light thumping sound from engine while running is music while riding!!i intend to take it around more (while i learn driving properly) and then to far off distances.

I have read numerous times that travelling (more importantly riding) gives perspective in life.

i will be riding it more and posting my reviews about it.thank you to all of you for your valuable suggestions.

i have a small doubt. when i took her out from the showroom, the fuel light was blinking. i then filled around 7.5 ltrs of fuel and driving since then. Now,there are two bars remaining on fuel indicator(which sometimes goes to one bar and sometimes to two bars). an approx calc right now is giving me a FE of only around 20 which leaves me befuddled. i am not sure how much fuel is left to go till the last bar starts blinking again (to get me the right FE). Would someone suggest the right calc method or the mistake i am making here.

                  thank you,
                  Tarun

                      Hi Tarun,
Congratulations on your new bike. The best way to calculate your bike's mileage is to use the reserve to reserve readings. When you switch your fuel knob to reserve, take the odo meter reading. Let it be x kms. When you fill the fuel next time, note down the number of litres. Let it be n litres. Now switch your fuel to on and ride till you need to switch to reserve again. Take the odo meter reading again when you switch to reserve. Let it be y kms. Now (y - x) / n will give you the mileage.

Pradeep, thanks for the suggestion. I will follow this procedure and try to calculate the FE once again.
