  • Cbr250R or RC200 or Mahindra Mojo !!!!! Suggesions required !!!

    Hi All,
We are planning to buy a new bike next month .Have already test ridden the Mojo for about 10+kms and found it to be very comfortable and punchy in the low end.The stance was a bit commuterish with front set foot pegs and raised handle bars.Nevertheless have booked a MOJO and now are confused since now the looks don't appeal to us anymore and moreover the doubt on the brand Mahindra two wheelers ,since this is a first premium motorcycle from their stable.
Right now the three bikes under consideration are CBR250R,RC200 and MOJO. Looking for suggestions on the same. Our requirements will be
1:Majorly for tours(short and long both)
2:City riding will be moderate since office is at a distance of only 4 kms(City being bangalore)
    3:Fun to ride
    4:hassle free ownership experience

CBR250 is a proven tourer but needed to know about the capabilities of the RC,the CBR being an old model is it worth to go for it.
Looking for inputs from RC200 owners who have toured on their RC's.
Or should we consider the MOJO and stay assured about Mahindra's quality and continue with our booking(Have to confirm the booking within this week i.e: before 4th Oct hence desperately looking for suggestions)
(NB : Thanks to all the forum members as I received a lot of help on my last post and now am a proud and happy owner of a R15,this bike will be for my elder brother)

Mojo is a new product, not tested, so it will be better to avoid it for now until long term reviews are out. RC is not that good for touring due to uncomfortable stance and smaller tank. Best would be to go for CBR in that list. Also, consider Dukes 390/200.

Re: Cbr250R or RC200 or Mahindra Mojo !!!!! Suggesions required !!!

Mojo is being tested for years now, we have seen scoops of it where the bike is being tested on various terrain. Ownership experience can be different but M&M do know that this is their flagship two wheel product thats the reason they have delayed it so much and testing it thoroughly.

Every new bike will have some faults in the initial stages the same happened with cbr250 as well, if folks remember.

Mojo has a fresh look, something people have not visualized in India apart from triumph's bug eyed motorcycle.

I don't think you can go wrong with mojo, as it has gone so much testing.

You have test ridden the mojo, try TR of cbr 250r and then compare what suits you.

Strict no no to the rc twins but duke brothers are welcomed as a tourer.

        Cheers,
        Sanjay

CBR250 for a reliable and peaceful ride. But I wish they had released CBR300 this year.

I used to work for the said manufacturer in past , although in automotive sector.
Last time I heard they had some engine component related problems , they changed a few key components and underwent testing again , new and different problems cropped up. By the time they sorted things out , market was gone to CBR and dukes and others. They then tried to make engine touring friendly so that they can at least promote it as being a long haul bike and ask for money. New map and new engine components and loads of new testing again. And again newer problems .
I am not sure if they have sorted all the problems yet

All the said requirements can be found only in the CBR, its still the best touring bike in India AFAIK, regarding built quality, Its a Honda, everything might break but not their engines, and its rear seat is comfortable too compared to dukes and RCs as you stated We , so I guess you plan on touring with a passenger. Whatever people say to you, at the end of the day buy something that's peace of mind. You can't repair while touring, so buy the one that has nearly zero issues.

i think MOJO will be the perfect machine.
as M&M is very serious about this bike , according to guys who tested its a solid bike and all the issues have been resolved.

Did you say "touring"? Then look no further other than Mojo and CBR250 and RE Thunderbird. But you know the RE problems. If you want a high speed cruising, then consider CBR250 or Mojo. Duke390 is another option as it can cruise at very less RPM at high speeds making it relaxed, but the seats and ride quality is not good. But CBR250 is better any day in giving comfort and good cruising speeds.

CBR250 can cruise @100 kph ~6.5K RPM where as Mojo does the same easily ~5.5 RPM. So here the engine of Mojo will be better relaxed and can keep the bike stress free. This is very important for a tourer and it can contribute for better mileage as well.

Out of CBR vs Mojo, CBR sporty riding position is what I hate and doesn't please me in keeping comfortable for long rides. But Mojo on the commuter way riding position will be the best. Give yourself some time for the Mojo to get stable. Who knows, even you might get a new CBR from Honda meanwhile.

And please don't bring RC here.....!!! Can't even think of touring on that tiny little seat

                  Mojo For
                  1. Bigger fuel tank
                  2. Can cruise at less RPM than CBR (Huge torque, ~45% over CBR)
                  3. Pickup is reasonable and close to CBR but not inexcess
                  4. Riding comfort
                  5. Good set of tires
                  6. USD suspension

                  CBR for
                  1. Proven Engine
                  2. Looks good
                  3. Less viby
                  4. ABS (A key factor)

They Didn't and they never will. Honda is not much interested in performance segment and it doesn't give huge revenue like commuter side motorbikes and scooters.

Some websites quoting CBR300 to come next year. Hopefully they brings it. The specs are impressive for city commuting and touring. Nice power output at low RPM's.
                    Maximum Power 30.4 Bhp @ 8500 rpm
                    Maximum Torque 27.1 Nm @ 7250 rpm
The stroke side is little high, maybe that's why it's high torque figures.
                    Bore 76 mm
                    Stroke 63 mm

The reliability of Honda is what is pulling us towards the CBR ,but the age of the current model is making us apprehensive about it.If Honda decides to release the CBR 300 after we buy the 250 then sure we will feel bad, like very bad.As about touring with a passenger,no plans to put a passenger on the rear seat while touring ,but the rear seat will be used within city limits ,and considering Bangalore road and traffic conditions ,a little bit of extra comfort on the rear is adds a lot of value.

We too were very enthusiastic and excited about the MOJO,we also booked one, after we test rode it.But the reliability of Mahindra is what is confusing us.As is posted above ,we find some part of it to be true since the showroom people repeatedly highlighted its touring capabilities, and if I am not wrong ,when Mahindra initialy unveiled the MOJO 5years back ,it was promoted as a "Sports Bike" rather than a tourer.I might also be wrong about this though.

Impressive. But that's as much as what Mojo too makes for the same Cubic capacity right?, but that too at 6000 rpm. That's why I said Mojo will be the ultimate touring machine which currently CBR250 holds the flag (if Mojo comes out of any negatives after launch).

I wish the new CBR300 shall be a twin cylinder with even more refinements with most of the parts localized as CBR250 is getting old now. Time to retire .

Yeah, perhaps to become a sports machine, the bike should be able to hit to ton under 7 secs given it's engine size. But it didn't or may be Mahindra couldn't. Also currently the competition for sports model is going crazy every quarter. With Indian people's love for fairing, Mojo may never be looked by youths who mainly buy it for posing. And we have a bunch of competitors with some excellent looking machines.

Hence I believe Mahindra would've found a gap which is not yet filled and that is called "Tourer" category. Currently CBR250 is considered as a good tourer bike, and 200NS was another option though being naked as it was considered a cheapest touring machine. But to my wonder CBR250 makes little less power for it's capacity. Whereas being 300cc, Mojo makes a very healthy twisting power.

So Mahindra has found the right spot to place their new machine and promote. I hope his strategy will work well, because for a good tourer you need more torque to cruise smoothly and no doubt Mojo will shine the best out of the rest (Of course, If priced well and gets positive reviews)

From a personal point of view, I have extensively considered the Duke 390, and even today, my mind itches for the upgrade! The duke is a relaxed tourer, cheap spares and low on maintenance. The new slipper clutch add on made the deal even more sweeter!

The CBR - It is one of the best tourers, if not number 1 in it's category. I have taken it to all the states in South India, and am vying to explore the north. Bulletproof engine, decent mileage on the highways (Returns 38+ on highways with a sane right hand) It does not give you a kick in the crotch acceleration or mad handling. But the bike does have serious power after 6K RPM, enough to smoke out most indicas or taxis on the highway. However, the maintenance is expensive because the spares are not cheap.

I would stay away from the Mojo as of now, because of it's history. I mean, 5 years to launch a bike? Come on! Honda launched their 650 after 5 years of launching the 250, and they are the slowest to move up segments! This is just my opinion though..
