Re: Premium Commuter 150CC Required !

^^ Thanks for the detailed insight.

I am probably going to take the Extended Warranty and Road Side Assistance as it would be good to have peace of mind for Rs. 959 /-

As for the Body Cover (Rs. 430), I am not really sure what is it. Can anyone show me a picture please?

The remaining 2 items, i.e. Teflon Coating (Rs. 480) and Puncture Safe + Nitrogen (Rs. 730) - I am not very keen about spending money on them but will wait for more opinions from the forum.

Teflon coating is nothing but wax, nothing special. For 480 you can get a Wax can for yourself and use it multiple times. As for puncture safe, I dont see bikes getting punctured every so often. Nitrogen makes sense for vehicles doing Highway travels daily and for track bikes but not for daily commuters. There is an article giving detailed explanation on why Nitrogen is used in track bikes and cars.

As for body cover, while buying the cover ask him for assurance that it will last, feel the material yourself and see if its good quality. You dont need to see a picture of a bike cover, it varies from place to place

If you are going for extended warranty theres a couple of things you have to keep in mind:

      1. You will be tied into the policy, that means you have to strictly follow their Service schedule to maintain the validity of the Policy

      2. Getting trapped in the policy means, you have to spend money in the SVC even if you have not used your bike for a while meaning, even if your bike can do without a service for slightly longer you will still have to take to the SVC for a service so that its recorded in the Service booklet

      3. You cant do any modifications whatsoever to the bike for the period of the Warranty or else it voids the entire policy.

      4. If you go for roadside assistance, its more than likely that you will not remember you have bought this policy and instead you will try to find a different solution for issue at hand.

      Goodluck

Although Gixxer is, without a doubt, a great bike - calling it the best is certainly not practical.
First of all, you need to understand that there is no "one" vehicle or product that is best for all. Every person has his own requirements and different products fit them differently. That's why we have so many types of vehicles on the road.

Coming back to Gixxer, if the primary requirement of a person is daily commute along with good pillion comfort then certainly the Gixxer fails here.
Neither is it the best in terms of braking department as it does not offer ABS, CBS etc.
Fuel Economy too is not the best in class.
Nor does it have an FI engine.
In terms of servicing too, Suzuki has a long way to go before it proves itself.

So, next time you call a bike as "best" please try to understand the person's requirements and priorities.

                Suzuki Gixxer or GS150R??

Am 5 5" and am planning to get a 150CC bike for daily commute of 25KMs and occasional trips. Shortlisted Suzuki GS150R and Gixxer as I wanted a complete package with all goodies. Previously I owned a Yamaha SS125 which was OK but the body parts broken into pieces in a minor accident. So, I have decided to buy a bike with good quality, decent power, good mileage. Impressed with the quality of GS150R and simultaneously with the looks and reviews of Gixxer. Now, am in a confusion of which one to chose from which should also please my pillion to ride comfort.

Help me choose... Which one of the bikes will suit me...!!

                  Hello R-Arun
                  1. I believe it may be the right etiquette to start your own thread. Posting on another thread is what some call thread-hijacking.
                  2. The GS 150R may be making a return after all. I went to 9 Star Suzuki on Hosur Road and was told upon inquiring that it will be made available from Jan. Waiting period is 20 days.
                  3. GS 150 may make a quiet comeback with the departure of its biggest competitor - the Unicorn 150. Still I wonder if it will stay in the market for too long. You might want to consider this.

                  4. My recommendation would be a FZ/S V2. It is really smooth, marginally more so than the Unicorn 160 or the Gixxer. The Unicorn 160 also seems to have shorter handlebars making the rider stretch a little further, which was not the case with the old Uni.

Why not consider the Avenger Street 220 ?
                      1) Handling : The shorter and flatter handlebars on the street makes it easy to ride.
2)Comfort(as am 6'1) : One of the most comfortable bikes for any height I believe.
3)mileage-40+ : This might be of concern. AFAIK, Avenger will give you a mileage of 35-40.
4)Durability atleast for next 5-7 years : With proper maintenance, the bike will easily last for 7-10 years.
5)minimum maintainance : I am not really sure about this. Maybe an Avenger owner can throw some light on it.
6)After Sales service & parts availability: Bajaj service might not be top notch but it isn't bad either. Better to check the reviews of your nearby service center. As for parts availability, with the popularity of the Avenger series, I dont think it is going to be any problem at all.

Please avoid SZ RR. It has a decent mid range torque but nothing in the top end and you WILL miss it. I own SZ R. Get the gixxer instead or if you want better fuel economy go for FZ (as it is fuel injected).

I have fazer version two , same ergonomics like fz..i cant tell you pillion seat is not comfortable for many.
better take tht person along..some find it comfortable..so better to try
best control - fz or fazer
best comfort for pillion and rider - cbz xtreme
                          best perfomance - apache
2nd best comfort and very avg looking bike - unicron
and gixxer is a beautiful bike tooo
I tried almost all 150cc bikes

Friends, I want to thank you all for your suggestions. I learned a lot by discussions here and it helped me a great deal to take my decision.

I have finally booked the Bajaj Avenger Street 220.
The low seat, pillion comfort, flatter handlebars and a very smooth test ride convinced me to go with this bike. Add to that the awesome looks (totally subjective though).

I will be getting the bike tomorrow or day after and I'll make sure to put up a few pics and my review in the forum.

Thanks a lot again guys. Keep Rocking !!

Meanwhile, any tips for the run in period will be greatly appreciated !

Tomorrow honda is launching Hornet 160, its a naked bike , like Fz, gixxer with dual disc, combi braking system, flat handle bars with nice build quality. You may give it a try. Anyways goodluck for Avenger.

ideally the running in tips you should follow whatever is written in the owner's manual, trust no one else. and ensure you get the engine oil and filter changed at the first servicing. this is very important.
do give us an ownership review especially the review from the pillion rider. i too am in the market for a premium commuter, and pillion comfort is an important point.
