Gixxer sf vs cbr 250r vs duke 200
Hi guys, I am Allen (21), this is my first post here, I was going to buy a gixxer sf but then I checked on olx, I found that both cbr 250r (2012) and duke 200 (2014) were available for around 1 lakhs (max budget 1.25 lakhs) , I am 5 9' and around 70kg, the main purpose is touring and highway runs as i live near the college, please help me to choose and is there any problem in getting a used bike? Fuel efficiency should be 35+kmpl, thanx in advance.Last edited by Divya Sharan; 11-16-2015, 06:08 PM.Tags: None

Re: Gixxer sf vs cbr 250r vs duke 200
As per your shortlist the CBR 250 R is the best tourer available as it can keep upto speeds of 90-110 km/hr without any hassle the duke is street bike on steroids and wouldn't be as good tourer as the Cbr. But Cbr isn't as hassle free and the overall build quality doesn't live upto the Honda's Brand name and i would still suggest you get the gixxer sf (which i have personally ridden) because a first hand bike is generally a better deal than a second hand one. As for the gixxer it can keep up on speeds such as 60-80 after which the engine loses its steam and overtaking might be a problem. Gixxer sf gives mileage in the range of 38-45 depending upon how you drive.Originally posted by allenjoshyjohn View PostHi guys, I am Allen (21), this is my first post here, I was going to buy a gixxer sf but then I checked on olx, I found that both cbr 250r (2012) and duke 200 (2014) were available for around 1 lakhs (max budget 1.25 lakhs) , I am 5 9' and around 70kg, the main purpose is touring and highway runs as i live near the college, please help me to choose and is there any problem in getting a used bike? CBR250r is the best option but only if you purchase a new one. Apart from you given choices I would like to suggest Pulsar RS200, as I have it and took it for a ride of around 1000 kms. I was riding at around 110 kmph without any issue and I was not so tired after the ride because of its riding posture.Originally posted by allenjoshyjohn View PostHi guys, I am Allen (21), this is my first post here, I was going to buy a gixxer sf but then I checked on olx, I found that both cbr 250r (2012) and duke 200 (2014) were available for around 1 lakhs (max budget 1.25 lakhs) , I am 5 9' and around 70kg, the main purpose is touring and highway runs as i live near the college, please help me to choose and is there any problem in getting a used bike? Gixxer SF is a good bike. maintenance is also less. CBR on the other hand is a versatile proven tourer. But considering your budget available, go for Gixxer. I am not sure about the 2nd hand CBR. Contact shv18, he owns a used CBR. He can help you or our psr sir.
If new bike is your liking and if its your first bike, being a college grad, go for Gixxer.R15S - Current

Classic 500 - Sold
Pulsar 220 dtsi - Sold

I believe you may have made up your mind, so good luck with the SF.Originally posted by allenjoshyjohn View PostThanks guys. I ll probably get the sf. Since it is my first bike, it may as well be a new one 😊
In the interest of anyone else reading this, I want to add that the CBR is usually bought by those who can see beyond the 0-60 figures - the educated crowd and thus used CBRs are usually well maintained.

Hey quick questions:-Originally posted by Fmeeran View PostWhy so? I have a CBR250R that I bought used.
1.You bought your CBR from a friend or from internet?
2.How long have you owned the Used CBR?
3.How long was it owned by the previous owner?
4.Why did he want to sell it ?
5.How much did you spend on it soon after the purchase (and how much of it was on mandatory things, like tyres, brake pads, etc; and how much of it on upgrades, if any)?
6. Any visits to the mechanic apart from Periodical maintenance service visits ?
7.Did you try riding any of your colleagues' CBR 250R and did you find the the engine and handling absolutely the same like your CBR's?
8.What to be prepared for, when buying a used CBR 250R?

In my point of view, whatever bike you are buying should be new because it will mold as per you riding style and you will take care of him/her as your loverOriginally posted by Fmeeran View PostWhy so? I have a CBR250R that I bought used. Would like to know your point of view.
In fact you cannot be sure how the bike was handled by previous owner. If budget doesn't allow you then save money and go for your riding partner. As per me trust on your bike and yourself is everything while riding.
That's my opinion and others can have their

Out of all the choices you have given, if I were you, I would go for the CBR250. Here's why.
1) You are getting a second hand 250cc Honda more or less at the price of 150cc Suzuki.
2) CBR 250 is a proven tourer.
3) CBR 250 owners are not some commuters. Its a premium bike and their owners take good care of it. Check out a used Ninja 250/300 also. Way better than CBR if you ask me.
However, if first bike should be a new bike is your perspective, then dont go for a used bike. If you are not comfortable going for used bike, dont. Its better following your heart than repenting later.
I say this from personal experience. even I was in the dilemma of buying used Ninja 250 or Pulsar 220F. I went with first bike should be new bike. Rest all is upto you.
Regards.

1. I bought it off the internet (olx) after researching xbhp threads for about 3 months about things to look out for.
2. I've had her for 6 months and 5000 kms.
3. The bike was with him from 2012 Feb to 2015 Jun. 12k kms.
4. His running was low and he wanted to upgrade to a bigger bike. Frankly, it was love at first ride and i wasn't really bothered about his reasons once I was reasoably sure she ran fine.
5. I gave her for a couple of service and oil change (I think came to 1.5 k or so per service. I forgot the exact number.) I also changed the tyres to Michelin PSR as I was not happy with the 12k run oem tires.
6. Nope. The battery just died on me. That might be since I fitted a gorilla alarm. I'll have to change the battery now.
7. Yes. Rode a friend's CBR250R which has 10k kms on the odo after 1 year. Very similar response. Except he is still on contis.
8. Lookout for tappet noise, the LEDs on the console (they have a habit of dying fast and the OEM solution is to change the console for 6k), oil leakage at the shocks, general scratches which might suggest falls... Also ride it for a bit to see if she behaves and turns fine. If still on OEM tires, lookout for deformities, bulging, and tramlining.

I only went secondhand for my third and fourth bikes. If you're unlucky/careless (as my brother was with his seconndhand rx100) you could end up picking up quite a bill.
