• Inputs for new bike

Hi All

I am planning to buy a new bike next year, my budget will be approx INR 2lc. I am not into bikes now a days but earlier in school & college days i was a hardcore biker. Now i need a powerful bike as my kid also likes the bikes very much, he always wants to ride on bike with me. My involvement with bike will be normal day to day commuting with weekend cruising.

I have 3 option in my mind...
1. RE classic 350
2. RE TB 350
3. KTM RC 390

Inputs are welcomed so that i can finalyse one soon.

TIA

Regards
Aman

The first 2 bikes are Cruisers and the 3rd is a Sport bike

According to your usage and power requirement I will suggest the ThunderBird but also do consider the KTM DUKE 390

I think you mistook the RC 390 for duke 390.

Oh yeah, my bad, for some reason my eyes decided to skip the RC in between KTM and 390

In which case I would have to suggest the TB, but did you consider the Duke 390 amansihag ?

Yeah right, the OP should consider the duke 390 as well, would be much reliable and fun to ride than the REs in my opinion!

Re: Inputs for new bike

The first two bikes are ok, but with a kid along side, i really wouldnt recommend the RC390.. With its forward stance, No doubt its a fun bike, very sporty and agile, but with a child sitting on the tank or in the rear seat, I would be a bit more careful. Moreover, the seating for the pillion is more comfortable in the REs..I would lean more towards either of the first 2 choices keeping this in mind.. But yea.. End of the day, it totally depends on your individual style of riding.. My friend rides a ktm duke 390 on our rides and he drops his daughter in school on that.. But thats a short distance. His wife totally hates sitting behind though.

Thanks all for your inputs.
Rebel_1080 :- I was also thinking of this factor of 3 people sitting, though my riding distance is 3km approx in week days & some time 30 to 50 km on weekends.
If i consider RE which one will be the best Classic 350 or TB 350. I personally like both & also confused that which one to buy.

Both the bikes have a different stance & presence. I am not very much concerned about the reliability as people say. My major riding will be always in city only.

Re: Inputs for new bike

If you like raw power and if you are into city commute more, Take the D390 and stay away from RC. Not that I am against it, since your kid is also involved in the rides more, D390 seems OK if you like raw power.

If you are more of a cool-cruiser kind of guy, go for the Classic 350. Better riding stance and good comfort for both rider and pillion. TB seems a good one for a highway cruiser.

Re: Inputs for new bike

amansihag: for a daily commutenof 3km , i really wouldn't recommend the D390.. Cos you might not be able to get to its "fun" riding speed/ torque. It would not do justice to the duke 390.

Regarding the royal enfields, i personally feel that you should sit on each with your child and see .. Reason being, the TB has more of an upward/ erect seating position, which is good for a child sitting behind (he/ she will be able to hold on to us better). The classic can have a slightly more "forward" stance depending on your body and arm length.

So i would suggest taking a test drive with your child and asking him/ her too, about their opinion.

Re: Inputs for new bike

3 km for commuting, man thats not even a warmup for the bikes.

You can get the mahindra mojo for weekend long rides and can use a bicycle for daily commuting of 3kms.

For commuting of 3kms daily, it doesn't make sense of investing so much. "Bike aise hi pade pade sad jaayegi"

Leta make it simple, mahindra mojo for weekend rides and a bicycle for daily commuting of 3kms.

Cheers,
Sanjay

Hi Aman, have you made up your mind?
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Did you just say 3 people on a bike! the KTM just withdrew itself from your list

Jokes apart. Did you also say your daily commute is 3Km Approx, well in such case the remaining options wont do any harm. You can opt for an RE as given your short distance of commute, you wont be bothering much about fuel efficiency.

Also RE can make sure that you can have a pillion and a kid comfortably seated (comparing with a KTM).

Go with TBTS (after taking a test drive) as you will get some better features such as dual disc brakes, fuel guage, tachometer, clock on display,.

other than that, both are amazing machines sharing the same motor and whatever the company didnt fit on CL (as compared to TBTS) can still be fitted with aftermarket parts on CL and the newer CLs have rather good color choices than the TBTS.

So summing it up,
given your original list of REs CL and TB 350 and RC 390,

Go for (any of the two) RE if you have relaxed ride and pillion comfort in mind.

Go for KTM if you need to feed some speed to the rider inside you!
