  • Secondhand ktm Or new other bike

    Hi guys
I'm currently looking at picking up a second hand ktm 200 if I can get on in reasonable condition up to about 1 lac.
My idea behind this since these bikes have a lower resale value.
Is this a bad idea ?

    Query Approved

Buy a used KTM, only if you know the seller and you can trust that he has maintained his motorcycle. Don't buy a random KTM of the market, chances are high that you will regret it later!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

partly what i was worried about... i saw the as200 did not like the finish too much . In fact i sort of preferred the finish of the pulsar 220 for some reason , initially i had my eye on the karizma but they have stopped production for the time being . im more or less looking for a bike for a round 1 lac give or take 10k. And im looking an upgrade to my 2001 cbz so mostly a 200cc or bike. I really wanted the duke 200 but its out of my budget.

Like what Avinash (a.k.a) The Monk pointed, Its better to get any bike from a sane rider whom you know or your friend's friend. It always advisable to get from a rider than from a market.

D200 is a great bike and its a decent upgrade from your CBZ. But make sure certain things before you buy - Service chart, Maintenance, Engine, Tires, Coolant tank leakage if any, Radiator fin dents or damages if any....
        R15S - Current
        Honda Dio - Current
        TNT 600i - Sold
        Classic 500 - Sold
        Pulsar 220 dtsi - Sold
        Yamaha YBX125 - Sold

There is a lot of chance of regret in case of buying ktms due to their hooligan nature which almost no one can resist and the bike will end up with a lot of trouble. If you know the seller and trust him then you can take a plunge ,otherwise there are a lot of new bikes around 1 lakh mark.apache 200 too is a good bike according to reviews and keeping in mind the fun factor provided by previous Apache's I think that it will be on par with Duke 200 in fun factor

Why go with a 2nd hand duke 200 when RTR200 is available in your budget?

The Expo is probably not going to showcase any bike around the 1lakh pricepoint. The closest that can come is the MSlaz IF it had indeed come here.

I would still like to wait for the Expo.

                    Ditto,

Dont go for a used bike, unless the bike grew old right in front of you, meaning unless you know the owner and his riding/moto caring inside out.

Go for a new bike come what may, you will always have confidence over your machine!

It's ok if u go for 2015 model of either KTM 200/390. And KTM's have low resale value.! I thought they had the highest resale values among any bike right now.
But, I've seen 200's having probs. I've been to svc 2 times till now during my 2 months of ownership & each time Duke 200s came with weird probs. Like rear brake oil leakage. That guy was coming from a 300km highway ride directly to the svc. After that another 200 came with a wobbly front handlebar.
During my 2nd svc visit, a 200 came with the prob that engine sound was very harsh. However, no RC/Duke 390's came with any problem. Dunno, if it was my luck!

P.S.: Also, Believe me I was as sceptic as anyone 2 months back. But, the 390 is admittedly a pretty gud bike. But, u got to run sane & maintain it well & it'll be a very gud experience.

In an ideal world heck even I want a duke 390 .. But buying it and maintaining it is out of my buget for the time being . Sure I could wait and eventual buy it . but my current ride needs a lot of attention and I don't want to put money into it any more . on paper and the reviews I'd say the as200 is the ideal bike but I wasn't too impressed with the finish . I guess I guess owning a hero for 6 something years has its downsides , you expect other bikes to live up to that quality. I might just end up with the as 200.. But I'm definitely going to wait and watch what the auto expo has to offer. I liked the tvstvs ... Meh sort off looks good et all but lower power and 5 speed gearbox plus its a new engine from tvs. No idea what the teething issues are going to be. The as engine has proven itself for now , in its avatar as the ns. Honestly I like the cbz for its spurty power delivery ... It sort made a lot of commutes fun , heck that bike out ran bullets on the highway (possible reason how I messed up the engine ). I would have gone for the tvs Apache 180 abs but iTS a 180 and given time I would most likely out grown it. Hench the search for a 200+ cc.

There is a very possible thing that Hero could showcase their HX 250R in the Auto Expo. Its a stunning looking bike.

Second hand KTM ? Nope ! That's like buying a Daewoo and expecting it to run troublefree

RTR 200 is the way to go.Offers way better build quality than KTMs and Pulsars.Go for the full option variant priced around 1.2L with Fuel Injection,ABS and Pirelli Tyres
