Re: Hey Guys! New biker here needs advice.
Since Company's like KTM has entered the market people now a days want more power and forget there is something called Reliability which not a lot of company's are offering these days. So I would suggest to go for a bike that you like instead of going for more Horse power. Trust me I would suggest any new biker to go slow with the power and upgrade as needed every 2-3 years since normally most company's like Bajaj offer very less Reliability in terms of long term ownership of their bikes. As I myself owned a P220 for close to 6 years before and now looking to get a new bike. I have researched for that perfect bike to upgrade to. You know after coming from a P220 every other bike pales in power, performance, and usability so I have researched and researched like a boss and found out that I want Comfort, Speed, Looks, usability, and on top of it all, I want Reliability. Since all these dont actually fit into the current bikes that most Indian company's offer together. I have seen hope in TVS instead of following the current trend, they went a different way which is a sign for greater things to come in the bike industry that said, I'm not a fan of TVS or any other company so I'm completely unbiased I only talk about what I feel would help others understand my point of view about biking. Back to the topic. I would suggest a D200, RS 200, Rtr 200 4V, Avenger 220 Cruse if you are into those types of cruisers. Other then that Abs is here in Rs 200 Single channel and Rtr 200 with Abs package with RLP. So the choice is yours. If you do go for the D 390 or RC 390, I hope you understand having a high cc bikes come with a huge responsibility towards others on road, If you are up for that kind of responsibility then go for it, I have seen nearly half of my friends pass away at the age of 18 with high cc bikes. Hope this helps you in a way or another.
PS:- This is my opinion, lets all be Civilized, if you do not agree with my point of view regarding this post, hit me up on PM and lets have a chat. Enjoy.
Edit:- There is also the issue with mileage with higher cc bikes, you will be putting more money for fuel while lower cc bikes which are equally fun cost less on the fuel..Last edited by shadcool786; 02-12-2016, 01:48 AM."Biking: the Under-Rated and Drug-Free Antidepressant"

Re: Hey Guys! New biker here needs advice.
Hey. Just wanted to say, regarding the power, don't worry about that, I purchased the RC 390 as my first bike as soon as I turned 18(3 months ago) and have completed 2k kms. I had ridden a bike 5 times only for short distances before that, so I can assure you that power isn't really an issue, you'll manage just fine.Regarding the bike, spares are no problems either cost wise. For example, I had the clutch lever replaced for Rs. 120, the Gear pedal for Rs. 180 and such, service is light on your pocket too. The ABS + Metzler combination is definitely worth paying the extra as opposed to the 200cc counterpart, the Metz just give you insane confidence and performance to match, ABS too has never let me down. Coming to the cons, first would be fuel. I have a daily commute of around 8km one way to college, with occasional riding just for fun, and on average I have to fill a full tank every 4-5 days(around Rs.600)- A mileage of around 16-20kmpl. This bike consumes a lot of fuel, which along with a small tank is a definite con. Reliability too could be considered an issue, as some people have had quite a few issues. Personally for me, I have never had heating or vibration issues and such mentioned here, I've just had a few niggles though, such as squeaking brakes (fixed by SVC, but again reappeared, I will demand a warranty replacement this time) and a messed up wheel alignment and loose front forks(this was my fault, probably went too hard on a speed breaker or in a pothole).Originally posted by ShadowHunter View PostHey, TheArcher
First of, thanks a lot.
Second, my commuting is barely in the city. Most of this 30KM commute is on an open road, with 2 stoplights in the middle and almost no traffic. I think I can handle the D390, no worries. I test drove it today, and I got to say, my heart really likes the Duke.

Hey Guys, an update. I test drove the Duke 390 today, and I really liked it. Is there an actual reason that you can give me to NOT go for the Duke, apart from the power? I think I can handle, and grow into the 44 BHP the Duke offers.
Thanks
SH
And just one final point, regarding which bike you choose finally; everyone recommended the duke 200 to me, as it was the perfect bike for a beginner, but my heart was with the RC 390, so I took the plunge and went for it, and I don't regret it, I'm really glad I went with what I wanted, because if I'd have "logically" chosen the Duke 200, I doubt I'd have been anywhere as happy as I would be with the RC, so what I would like to say is that if there is any particular bike that really attracts you, and you feel that thats the bike you really want, go with it, because that'll be what makes you happy.
Do update us on what you decide to buy

I just got my Duke 390, 2016 model.
I would like to say tho, something is up with your mileage. 8km one way equates to 80 km per 5 days, and assume another 40 on that gives you just 120km per fuel tank. I already did 130km on the first day, and I have a little more than 3 bars left when I filled up again 400 rs worth of petrol.

Re: Hey Guys! New biker here needs advice.
Hi Guys.
I am sorry I butted into the thread for my query. But my query is similar..
I have not been in the front seat of a mobike in last 10 12 years.
My experience is limited to Kawasaki KB 100 and yamaha 125 or 135.
Now I have my mind set on an Avenger 220 Cruise.
My questions are:
Is it easy to manuevre in a city like Chandigarh?
Does it need many trips to a service station? Or once a year service is enuff?
My riding would be less.. say 200 -300 km a month.
If we modify, there are many websites selling boxed kits etc, Is it legal?
Best Regards
Thanks in anticipation.
Ajay
