  • Commuter bike for daily use in Mumbai.

Hey everyone! Just sold my dads 12 year old ct100 for 12000rs and now I am looking for a new bike.
I am 18 year old, 6 foot tall and weight around 78 kg. I will be traveling daily for 18-20 km (Mainly on highways). My budget is up to 75000 rs and mileage should be above 55.
But there is a PROBLEM since I'll be sharing use of bike with my dad we need a bike which we can fulfill both are needs. I am college student and need a bike which looks stylish while my dad agrees with that he wants the bike should be light and give less maintenance.
So guys please suggest a bike which fits my use. I am very confused what to buy and that is why I wont be suggesting bikes which are in my mind. Thanks in advance.

NOTE: I had a test drive with bajaj v15 although the bike looks good I did not feel the engine to be worth rs 75000 so v15 is a no go.

I think Suzuki GS150R will be a good deal.

You can also think for Hero Impulse. Which you can use for both on-road/off-road.

Honda Hornet is a very good option, if it comes in your budget.
The bike is tall and muscular and will look well proportioned with your frame.
It is not too flashy for your dad and not too boring for you, a perfect balance.
The Honda's are always known for their reliable and robust engines.
Take test ride and then decide.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

GS150R is good deal but hero impulse to me looks better with short/average height people. What do you think about Honda shine SP?

Honda Hornet was the bike even I had in my mind but its to expensive and not in my budget. Honda shine SP is another option. What do you think? I heard it has problem with drive chain.

Yes, Shine is also a very good option.
A very good city bike. Not too good for highways cause lack of fifth gear.
There may have been few problems with the drive chain, but generally the Honda's are known for their superb build quality and reliability.
You cannot go wrong with a Honda, a good all round commuter.

The best looker bikes in that budget on road could be few, like the CBZ Extreme, the new Unicorn 150, Or honda Livo, infact some bit of stretch in the on road budget & you could also stare on a avenger150 or RTR 160.

Though if I were in you're place I'd rather wait a bit to see how the Honda Navi turns out. It'll be a nice blend of style & usability you're looking for. And probably you'll be one of many first to have it & could be a chick puller (v.imp )

Here it says the new honda shine has 5 gears. I may be wrong.
Oh, this must be the new model, my cousin bought shine last year and it has only 4 gears, so the engine sounds really stressed on highways (70 kmph and above).
Looks like Honda looked into the problem and fixed it with the new model.
Go for it buddy, the engine is the same reliable and ultra smooth and now it has 5 gears.
What I would suggest is to take a test ride before finalizing. A short test ride will tell you more about a bike than a week of reading on the internet. The sound of the engine, how good are the brakes, how does is behaves in real life traffic with a pillion on back seat, are the seats comfy etc etc. We are always here to help out with the questions but at the end it is you who will live with it daily and it should suit you and your needs.
Please take test ride and then decide. For any questions we are always happy to help.
                  Ride safe.

Well brother, Shine is a well established bike and has proven its worth for a long time. So you can not go wrong with it.
On the other hand Livo is comparatively new bike. and we don't know how it will fair in long term. It is a Honda nevertheless, so I don't think it should have any problems, but you never know.

Test ride both, if possible talk to someone who owns a Livo. He might be in better position to give first hand feedback.

Honda Shine SP will be a good one. The new SP model has 5 gears which has got good looks.

Just a thought: If you are shortlisting on 125cc segment and if you don't like to go for Shine SP, Below are few choices
                            1. Hero Ignitor - Which looks very stylish
                            2. TVS Phoenix - Not very popular though
                            3. Bajaj's New 125CC Discover is very good it seems. It has got the good power, DC Electricals, More pulling Power, Wider rear tyres along with better mileage.
                            4. Bajaj Pulsar 135LS is not a bad choice either
