  • Is CBR250R is a good choice within 2 Lakh!!

Actually my Yamaha Fazer 153cc is now 30k kms on odo. Daily commute to office in Kolkata city traffic and frequent Highway Trips have been served very well with Yamaha Refined Motor, but it is asking too much maintenance (Tyre, Disc, Clutch plates, Piston rings, Valves, etc etc) in recent days, so I want to switch to a bigger cc with comfortable posture and reliable machine.
Honda CBR250R is very refined and reliable Honda badge is always a plus point. Gixxer 250 is also on the upcoming bike lists. Do I wait for Gixxer 250 or buy CBR? Any other suggestions are welcome. I prefer fully faired. I am slim 5 ft 6 inch guy.

It depends on how you rode.if your driving is most of the time at night on kolkata then CBR is awesome as at nights the roads are pretty free and awesome .but if its day then manhvering at peak traffic might be an issue .take a good test drive and also go through the forums for more info .thanks

It's a very good choice mate! The CBR is worth every penny. I just upgraded from Apache RTR and I'm just loving how the CBR feels. I did consider the RC 200 though but finally zeroed it down on CBR. Anyways get a test ride and check if it suits your requirements! All the best buddy!

I ride a Cbr250 too, and we share the same height. Do take a test ride through traffic. Coming from fz, you might feel bit uncomfortable, but soon your body will adjust. I am suffering from a bad back, but the CBR gives me no pain till 100 km.

Thus, 600 km highway trips are a breeze for me with frequent snack and stretch breaks.

CBR250R will be a proper upgrade. Go for it.
Just a question, you said that your 30k Kms run Yamaha is giving problems??
I always thought Yamahas were built to last a long time and 30K kms is not that long to replace the piston rings and valves etc.
If you don't mind, can you tell me what problems are you facing with it??
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

A tiktik valve noise coming from the engine, Aquad yamaha changed the intake & exhuast valves, but the problem continues just after few days, now yamaha factory shop kestopur mechanic told me to replace valves because they are not seated properly, piston rings have to check too. That is the problem. Yamaha fazer is superb but underpowered. So I am planning to upgrade to a comfortable yet powerful within 2lac. Nothing else.

Thanks mate! I already test ridden CBR 250R within City. Sound note is smooth like any honda and Throttle feedback is crisp and quick. Do not know about buzz after 100+. CBR250R is great bike.

You will only get an annoying buzz at 5k rpm in the lower gears. At 100 plus, you will hear only music. Even at 150+, there was no undue strain or unsettling vibes.

Another plus point is, some spares are cheaper than r15.

Re: Is CBR250R is a good choice within 2 Lakh!!

I have been using my CBR for almost 5 years now it never left stranded even in the dreaded Chennai floods I went through water upto my knee deep it didn't stop.
As a bike its proven itself everyone who owns it is happy with it.
But it's 2016 you have many choices from 200cc to 390 cc in that budget but if your priority are as follows then you should consider CBR.
                    1. Refined Engine and high quality mechanichal parts.
                    2. Low Average service cost
                    3. Less cost of spares (at least most of the commonly replaced spares are cheap compared to others)
                    4. Adequate Power (its a relaxed bike it show its horns only after 5000 rpm before that its a sweet puppy)
                    5. Comfortable pallion seat.

I think you should also check the Himalayan. It's a perfect bike right now under 2Lcs who's looking for touring/city use along with decent pillion comfort. Though you said you prefer fully faired ones do give this bike a shot too. latest RE products have pretty good quality as well.

Piston rings replacement on a Yamaha at 30k kms? Those are Bajaj standards man!

Anyways regarding your what bike question, it actually depends what are you going to use the bike for. Also its not like one cannot manage a full faired bike in traffic, if you want to you can.

But remember, don't think that since you were easily able to handle the fazer in traffic you will be able to handle the CBR250 in a similar way. Fazer has the same turning radius and handle of the FZ making it a very flickable semi faired bike. CBR has clip-ons and has a much higher turning radius.

There are many bikes which fall under your price segment, you will have to provide more details for us to advice you better.(Check What bike: posting guidelines thread) below are the list of bikes to choose from :

                        R15
                        Pulsar RS200
                        KTM 200/390
                        CBR250

Many options in the naked/semi too:
                        TNT 250

                        Himalayan
                        Pulsar AS200

It's a lot like nuts and bolts - if the rider's nuts, the ride - bolts!

Re: Is CBR250R is a good choice within 2 Lakh!!

I upgraded from FZ to CBR250R, I am 5ft 10 and slightly overweight.

If your commute involves driving in bumper to bumper traffic, then CBR250 will be slightly difficult to ride than fazer. Here are some difficulties i initially faced when riding cbr in traffic:
1.FZ/fazer pulls cleanly through 2000rpm, while you have to keep cbr at 3500rpm and slip the clutch to avoid knocking the engine.
                          2. CBR250 is quite heavy and difficult to maneuver in tight spaces.
                          3. Slightly aggressive sitting posture gives light pain in my palms (maybe due to the fact that i am overweight at 90kgs. Riding gloves solves this issue to a good extent)

If your commute allows speeds greater than 60kph, then none of above mentioned issues will bother you. There will be no pain in your palms. Seats are more comfortable than FZ. Slightly aggressive sitting helps at high speed and i never felt any back pain with the bike.

From my experience, CBR was a proper upgrade over FZ. Its reliable, has enough power, returns almost same mileage as my fz (33kpl) and its comfortable.

I wouldn't suggest waiting for gixxer 250 as we don't have any clear idea when it will be launched. Even if they do launch it, chances are it will be competing with R3 and ninja 300 (parallel twin engine of inazuma)
There is no destination, I just want to keep riding.

                            Pulsar AS200
                            KTM 200/390
Actually I had done a Sikkim Trip (Kolkata to Gangtok, Nathula, Gurudongmar Lake) o nOctober, 2015 with this carbureted Yamaha Fazer, being carbureted, it was suffering above 12000 feet altitude. I had to push its limits some times (Half-Clutch riding to stiff climbs, Running with no combustion in the chamber due to lack of oxygen sometimes), thats why intake and exhaust valves are gone, Clutchplates, oil seal, etc etc. I know Yamaha is reliable, Pistons & Piston rings are okay, checked by ASC.only valves are damaged and changed.

Secondly, Fazer has semi fairing and the fairing is wider than pulsar 220 too, so there will not be any problem maneuvering the CBR in traffic too.

Thirdly, I had test ridden the above bikes from my friends,

R15 V2.0, nice smooth grunt at midrange and linear power almost, but wrist pain is too much, not comfotable for long hauls.
R15 S, same thing, advantage is my pillion will not complain.
Pulsar RS200, I took it a month ago from a friend to go to office as my bike got punctured early in the morning, the acceleration is awesome man! but there are rattling noise from the fairing, gear shidts are clunky while shifting down, and bajaj qaulity is horrible.
KTM Duke 200, very good bike, it loves the twist on the throttle, what a accelaeration, hands down, ktm copyright tr tr tr tr exhaust note, but seat hieght is high, seats are hard, puny back seat, overheating issues in traffic.
CBR 250R, quite heavy, smooth, shifts are softer than yamaha, silent but sporty, semi-sport style.

I recently contacted nearest Honda Dealer, they are telling 2week waiting peroid of the red color, and onroad kolkata will be approx 1.9L without abs, 2.3L with abs.

Posted an Ad on Olx at 55k for fazer.

Hopefully wait for few more days to accumulate more money.

                            Thanks.

On a different note, why not Fazer-FI ? It is not an upgrade, but it can help you in high-altitude touring. Returns good mileage for city rides.
