  • Which shock absorber is best for back pain

    Friends,
I have used Honda unicorn for couple of years and sold it as I got low back pain (due to my work style). Now I'm planning to buy RE Himalayan... I test drove the vehicle and found it really good and booked the vehicle..
The only concern in my mind is the MonoShock suspension... My unicorn had the same and now thinking should I consider Himalayan with MonoShock or Thunderbird with DualShock...
    I'm 6 feet tall weighing 90KGs...

Please provide ur recommendations for which shock absorber is best for someone with low back pain...

    Thanks...

Topic Approved. Moved to What Bike Section.

Please don't have second thoughts regarding Monoshock. Monoshock doesn't mean it will be hard only.
There are soft Monoshocks too, in fact, few to many off road and dirt bikes too have monoshocks, despite the soft ride they require...

In my opinion, you can go for the Himalayan.
In other bikes, I would like you to consider a second hand or old stocked Hero Impulse.

Suspensions are adjustable for almost all the new bikes (At least 3 levels like soft, medium, hard). Whether it is mono or dual, adjust the suspension for your maximum comfort level. And suspension is not only the reason for back pain. I too had back pain when riding my old Bajaj Discover. Later I have found an alignment problem in the back wheel axle. And my back pain got vanished after setting the alignment correctly. And try different riding/seating style to find the maximum comfortable position. All the best.

Unicorn is proof how to fool maximum people by stupid marketing gimmick. Apologies if i am rude .
Monocross in unicorn is actually nothing but Oil filled shock. So it wont be as smooth as gas charged ones.
Test drive a gas charged dual suspension bike , Apache, Xtreme, hunk , RE Electra .
Also try CBR250 , it has one of the best suspension.
Carb Tuning made easy (Thanks Sibun !)

Thanks a lot for this explanation... I'm very naive on this area and getting an expert opinion increases my confidence on Himalayan..

Good point RohIT about Unicorn's shock absorber... I loved everything about that bike except the suspension.... Ur point makes sense why that suspension was bad...

Unicorn is the most comfortable of bikes to ride and I am surprised you say this. All bikes have decent suspensions and I think once you adjust to the bike you should face no problems.

I think you might have a posture problem or weak back muscles, do some regular exercises and see if it makes a difference.

Check out the Xbhp review/first impression for Himalayan here : http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/showthread.php?t=34337
Also you can check YouTube video reviews for Himalayan.

According to the reviews the Himalayan is pretty comfortable and the suspensions are soft.

So, I guess you have not made a wrong decision by booking the Himalayan.
It's a lot like nuts and bolts - if the rider's nuts, the ride - bolts!

Bike was leaning to left side even on good and straight road. So I was using extra force on the right side of the handle bar to keep it on straight line. Which in turn was giving pressure to my spine. After riding my bike my *friend had told me there is an alignment problem with handle bar or wheels. So I had an inspection by myself and found that back wheel axle was set wrongly (It was identifiable by comparing the distance between axle adjustment bolt in both the side). After rectifying this I was able to ride the bike more easily without back pain.

                        * I used to swap my bike with my friend's bike for 1-2 days. Because some problems will not be identifiable by the a person who is riding only one bike for a long time.

Rohit is right. They are fooling. It may be good but for just 5000kms, at 10,000kms its unmerciful very very bad. Which bike in Honda has a nitrox suspension even today? Re-launch of the same model is much more fooling.

If you have back pain issue, never go for any mono suspension. But go for bike with linkage suspension or dual nitrox suspension. Don't risk your health for a bike.
