  • Commuter Bike advice TVS VICTOR OR HONDA?

Experts, need help in choosing a bike primarily used for commuting to office and shopping groceries nearby. Not more then 10-15 km daily. Everyone saying for Honda brand although it's over priced but comparing to TVS victor, I feel TVS victor has an edge in terms of on paper specs. Can some one advice is TVS bikes are durable. Or should I go with herd and chose Honda. Plus advice.

    1. Budget 60- 70k

    2. Age 33

    3. Height 5.9

    4. Weight 70

    5. Intended usage (eg. Office/College commute, Highway runs, Racetrack usage, Weekend recreation riding etc.)
Office which is 5 km away from home and daily groceries. Not more 10-15 km per day
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement (approx., if any)
    50-60

    7. City & Highway percentage usage 95% city 5% highway

    8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running

    Daily 10-15 km max

    9. City / Town /Village of residence (so we can evaluate road conditions / traffic / terrain / altitude / OTR pricing)
    Chennai
    10. Brand / Bike type preference (if any)
    Thinking of TVS victor 2016
    Honda Dream Yuga
    Hero Passion Pro

    Topic approved.

TVS bikes are generally durable, but you might need to ensure that the service goes smoothly and nothing goes wrong.
Hondas may be reliable, but they often have a problem of spare parts.

Rest the bike owners will guide you in the coming posts...

Since my father owns a dream Yuga, I can give my inputs on it.

It suits all your requirements, but if you intend to use it on race tracks, this is not the bike. As a matter of fact none of your choices are suitable for race track usage IMO. They are all commuters.

Yuga's engine is pretty refined. It feels comfortable for city and the occasional highway run. So far the bike showed no issues. Passion is also reliable, but Honda's extra 10 cc can help in the highway runs. The bike also seems low on maintenance.

Since victor is the new bike out of all the three, I cannot really comment since I have not driven one. Why don't you test drive all the three...it will give you a fair idea as to which bike suits your requirement more.

I have an older TVS Victor and i can tell you that they are very durable.

But from the choice you have provided I would suggest Honda for the only reason that Victors (even amongst my friends) don't have very comfortable suspension and their engines tend to make to the POP sound too often.

Other than than, all the three bikes are very equal with marginal differences Like fuel capacity (highest amongst three in Passion, correct me if i am wrong) and Power, torque, Digital speedo console (with power and torque marginally higher in victor).

But then Victor has an inch smaller wheel which given a choice I would not prefer!

Thank you all. I don't intend to use the bike on highways much .. Mostly it's within the city .. I test drove TVS victor and quite satisfied with it.. Engine seems to be fine tuned very much, good pickup and attractive colours and also cheaper by few thousands compared to others in the same segment. On other hand couldn't able to get a dream Yuga to test ride. Most of the showrooms near to me are showcasing unicorns, or shines . Let me give a try. The only thing that is bothering me is its long term performance .. Hearing that engines prone to noises after some time ..didn't see much of comparison charts ..

I have a TVS victor GLX for the past 11 yrs, i know 3 other people around me who have a TVS victor GL model for similar durations and the engines are not noisy for sure, bikes always serviced on time with ASC or trusted mechanic. Bikes still churn out good FE.

Engine noise wont be a trouble with TVS, but their service networks are inconsistent as well as like i mentioned before shock absorption capabilities are not the best in the segment.

If you have any small honda dealerships at/near your place, try them, they will have one for test drive. We faced the same problem when we were looking for bikes. We ended up travelling 20 km to a nearby town where we found a small showroom (single room actually ) where they only had dream series and shines on display. They were more than happy to offer us a test drive. Since they've opened recently, they even offered a flat 6k discount on the yuga. So, we purchased from them and get it serviced regularly at a much bigger showroom/SVC.

Well, long term performance should not be an issue with modern bikes. If you get the bike serviced at regular intervals and look after it, any bike would last for 15+ years easily.

                  One word "Honda"

My friend never serviced his Honda. Oil change too not timely. But working perfect.

So Is my 5 year old Honda shine. It also does awesome wheelie just like that. First wheelie for me.

Brother, any bike will be durable, reliable and will last long if you take proper care of it. Get it serviced on time, change engine oils and other consumables on time and you will not be disappointed by any of the shortlisted bike.
Take test rides of all the bikes you have shortlisted and then decide which one suits you the best.
A 5 minute test ride will tell you more about a bike than a week of reading online.
The sound of the engine, the bite of the brakes, how the bike behaves in traffic jams, is the seat comfortable for the pillion etc etc. you will find out all these things only after test riding them.
So take long test rides and then go for the one which feels most at home.
For any other questions, we are always here to help.
                      Ride safe.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

                        Hi There,

I don't think the TS mentioned anywhere about Track Usage There is a template for What bike section if I am right..

to the TS.. buddy, TVS Victor was a great bike.. I loved that bike to the core in 2001 when it was launched.. Unfortunately they stopped the production..

Any bike will have issues if one doesn't maintain them.. Like us Human beings, machines need proper care..

Like for eg. If you don't eat for like 10 days, will you be able to see the next day? and if you don't take bath, you are bound to get skin infection and so on and on.. these are just examples..

if one doesn't maintain himself, he will probably has a lesser life span than the one who does.. similarly, take good care of your bike and no matter what, your bike will not fail you..

on the other hand.. If the bike is discontinued in near future, the spare parts availability would become a problem, unless and until the company is providing support.. in this case, I have a feeling that one might face issues searching for spares when it comes to TVS..

Both the bikes shortlisted by you are good and inputs about them have already been given. But why don't you include Yamaha Saluto in yout list? Fulfills your requirements well. Has a smooth engine and great fe.
