Re: Query on TVS XL 100

I have been riding XL HD for 5+yrs.

It's light, easy to handle, not expensive...

Max load capacity is 130kg, if you take a pillion it's almost always you're overloading the vehicle. You will have to use your legs to push from standstill position to get the vehicle move this is esp. true when someone honking hard even before signal turns green.
I don't remember if I have ever gone past 40kmph, at that speed you will feel like you're cruising @ 80 (in a typical 100cc bike). That much noise/engine stress you will hear/feel.
Mileage was around 40-45kmpl in the early days, later it went past 50kmpl. Now I don't keep track of that.

Bought Star City + about 1.5yrs ago. After that, pretty much every thing is not good with XL. Braking is not good, RVM, torque, speed, throttle lag etc. Now I get to ride XL less often (about 25-50kms per month).

I wanted to try XL100, but no one I know owns one. It sounds more like a scooter than a moped. Probably engine is borrowed from Scooty, I don't know. Tank looks little bulky, other than that pretty much everything is same as XL HD with regards to looks.

Couple of months back I was told that they are selling both the old version and the new XL 100. When I was crossing a nearby dealer last week, they have received a new batch of vehicles and I didn't see a single old version.

I don't know if you can get a test ride for this vehicle. Sometimes all of 'em get allotted even before reaching showroom, in that case you can't get a test ride. After all this is highest selling model for TVS in terms of no. of units. Hoping XL100 would be reasonably better than XL HD.

Would I prefer XL100 over CT100B? Hell yeah!!! Why?
It's cheaper, it's gearless, have space to carry some luggage. I find scooter/moped more useful for running errands than a bike.
(My opinion may vary if I have tried both XL100 and CT100B. So try to get a test ride of both the vehicles and decide).

On the other hand CT100B has upper hand over XL100, like better power/torque figure, braking, mileage...

Is that TVS XL based on the TVS Champ? That "eeeee" moped?

Re: Query on TVS XL 100

Thanks a lot everyone for taking time and sharing information and helping me out in this unique hunt

I have decided to go for the Bajaj CT100B for the following reasons(summarizing all your feedback and my personal views),

        1. Bigger Tank
        2. Better Suspension
        3. Better Mileage
        4. More Power
        5. Better Sales Staff (not sure about service as of now)
        6. On-Road Price Difference is only Rs. 500/- between the CT100B and the XL 100
TVS shows ex-showroom for XL 100 as 28,843/- whereas all the Dealers are quoting ex-showroom as 31,426 - 31,918 without any justification, they are charging RTO, Octroi, Road Tax, Insurance, Accessories on top of the ex-showroom(assuming VAT is included in ex-showroom), this brings the On-Road price of XL 100 to 39750/-, If 28,843/- was taken as ex-showroom then the On-Road would amount to only 36675/-

When I asked them to check the site of TVS that shows 28,843/- they said sales people don't have access to Internet (in today's age of mobile phones!!!), TVS Customer Service said the hiked ex-showroom price is wrong and registered a complaint and stated they will contact me to provide update on it, it has been 4 days but no response from them.

I might come across as a miser over a difference of 3000/- but I just don't like being cheated so openly, if it is legit, there has to be a reason

On the other hand Bajaj is charging ex-showroom as 33270/- instead of 31646/- but are clear enough in letting me know that the difference is the Octroi(Mumbai BMC charges Octroi), even their website mentions Octroi is additional, as a result, CT100B On-Road price comes to 40249/- compared to XL 100 On-Road price of 39750/-, CT100B is clearly a better value for money

Thanks Guys, you guys make me feel glad for joining this forum

Will post my ownership experience once I get the bike

Just hoping I don't end up suffering the famous back pain all bikers have to face

Moderator, Please go ahead and close this thread as my query is resolved
