  • Fuel efficient and durable commuter under 70K

    Hi,

Im looking for a fuel efficient and durable commuter under 70k for long term usage. The usage is for both daily commute (~40kms) as well as weekend long rides.
I have shortlisted the following bikes in the order of my priority
    1. tvs victor
    2.honda dream neo
    3. saluto
    4. glamour
    5. phoenix

Requirements : consistent mileage around 60kmpl. Durable, should last long. Im 6 feet/95 kgs. Should be comfortable for me, for prolonged riding periods as well.
Kindly let me know which would be a good choice ?

Glamour Fi or the normal one eyes closed. Dream neo has average engine quality and cycle tyres. Haven't checked the saluto so do ride both bikes and decide.

Glamour should be the first choice.
        Then TVS Victor.
If new Honda Shine comes in your budget, it is a worthy contender, check it out as well.

Yes. I,m considering Glamour. But it has a ground clearance of only 150mm, will it be a problem on our mega sized speed breakers ?

Also, the price difference between victor and phoenix is only 3000. So, will it be better to go for phoenix instead of victor ? Any reviews about the fuel efficiency of phoenix ?

Glamour is a commuter, so the ground clearance should not be a problem. I am not sure how mountainous the speed breakers are in your city, but glamour should do fine.

Between Vcitor and Phoenix, victor should be the choice. It is relaunched and the old one was very popular and very good, hope that the new one lives up to the expectations of the old one.
Not sure how phoenix is doing, but I did not see many of them on road. So cannot comment on it.

Take test rides of each of them back to back and then decide the one that suits you the most.
Even the shortest test rides will tell you a lot about the bikes. The handling of the bike in traffic, the bite of the brakes, how refined the engine is, how it behaves in day to day traffic with a pillion etc etc. then make a well informed decision. For all the questions, we are always here to help..

Phoenix is a very nice bike. Unfortunately it not very popular. Better to choose Victor over Phoenix.

On paper, shine sp seems like balanced for both mileage and long rides, but again its a honda, so I'm not sure of how solid it will be on the long run..Any thoughts about it, will it justify its higer price tag of 75k ?

Though I'm aware that 5k more gets me sz-rrv2 or uni150, I'm leaning towards mileage more, hence I'm interested in shine sp.

No not yet, will be booking one in the coming weeks, trying to increase the budged to 150cc commuter bikes zone.

Will be buying, either Honda Unicorn 150 / SZ-RR V2

-still skeptical about uni160 for the long run, as already the bike is not selling well, hence decided on uni 150.

some points observed in the ownership forums for the above bikes,

uni150 - not reliable engine anymore, engine problems after 30k kms, but reliable and efficient till then.
szrr - long lasting engine unlike honda, but low on mileage.
uni160 - no idea about the long run, only time will tell,
                      ----

Anyways, will have to sacrifice one for the other, will have to decide which one, hoping test ride could help it a bit.

                      Cheers.

Bro szr first batch having low mileage problem...
But this new batch szrr with blue core technology can easily give 45-50kmpl

as jambuster said carb batch of szrr was +- for mileage but should be fine with fuel injection(current model).
