Re: Apache rtr 200 4v or KTM rc200

I own RC 200 for the past year and a half and I have to say this - that was the most amazing decision of my life. My riding includes commute to work 3 days a week, Sunday rides of about 250/300 km and usual city brawls. I am 5.8 and I have not really faced much back pain even on my long rides. Let me put down a few pros and cons which might help you in your decision

    Pros
    1. Excellent power for it's class. Even if you're not racing on the streets, that power on tap makes you more confident on the road
    2. Looks badass, I doubt there is any other bike in this class with the kind of road presence. I own a duke 390 as well, but when I have to meet my posh friends i pick the RC for obvious reasons. I am of the belief that your machine should be pretty and why not.
    3. Cost of ownership aint too high
    4. Handling. Trust me on this, as the days go by you will become a skilled rider, bike's weight distribution is confidence inspiring and aids to a very rewarding ride experience. Big big smiles.
    5. Riding position, I dont know why people keep complaining about sporty riding position but honestly that makes for one incredible riding experience, you're always in control and eventually you get used to rear sets and crouched seating, once you do my friend there's no stopping you. No way an apache can give you what an RC's demeanor does.

    Cons
    1. The body parts arent too good in quality
    2. You would mostly be riding alone, pillions get intimidated by the rear seat
    3. Sporty riding position means you cant be going grocery shopping on it
    4. No bike is perfect or one size fit all, it is purely subjective to what you want from your machine and how much you're willing to adjust (So all respective cons can be ignored if you love your respective monsters)

Coming to TVS, I used to own the Apache 160 and used to love it for the compact dimensions and the riding experience. I have heard the 200 is also an amazing iteration of the old one with a good mix of power, reliability and looks. But I am sure TVS comes with it's own set of problems and I'd like you to pay attention to my point number 4 of the cons.

In the end go with what your heart says, ride both and feel your machine, see if they talk to you in anyway, my RC talks to me and that is why I consider that as the best decision of my life.

My CBR250 doesn't talk to me Bhai. Even after I gave it Shell vpower petrol. Should I sell it?😞

Man, I can't stop laughing after reading your post.

On topic, if you are travelling 120 kms a day with fair bit of highway riding then a faired bike would help.

My suggestion would take a test drive of cbr250, Mahindra mojo, benelli tnt25, rc200 and apache as well. See what suits you and your purpose as well.

Please note that apache will not perform that well on highways due to lack of 6th gear. It's best for city riding.

JS16, a suggestion open a thread for your lectures on tvs and the quality of it's bike. How it smokes other bikes and how I can be used as a vibrator as well. Don't go off topic on someone else's thread.

time for some introspection. as someone once said "the problem is the nut connecting the handlebar to the seat"

as for the guy who asked the Q 'what bike' , the above suggestion is what you should take. only a test ride (or rather a few) will give you a good idea on what suits your riding style and the looks department. (the budget is another factor)
i'd personally keep away from the benelli's after hearing some horror stories on the cost of parts/ownership and mahindra two wheelers don't really evoke any confidence in me, only time will tell about their future/parts availability and sustenance in this space.
