  • Discover 135 owner - help choose my next Bike!

Hi Guys, long time reader, less poster who enjoy the information shared and the biking community here. I want your opinion on my next bike..

I did a bit (not lot) of research, talked to a few mechanics before I narrowed down my search to the apache RTR 150. but still I'm not sure if it is the correct choice. below are my details.

    Height - 5' 11"
    weight - 62 KG
use of bike - riding to work & back everyday - 65km daily
travel hill country & long rides once a month or so

    past-------------------------
I have been the proud 2nd hand owner of my Discover 135 - 2009 model. I have to say Im very lucky to have the 135 as my 1st bike as a beginner! I'm using the bike for nearly 3 years now and have had minimum maintenance and very good performance in fuel and riding. Anyways, I feel it's time to move to my very first NEW bike.

    Requirement-------------------------

I want to go for a 150cc motorbike, with a known very good engine & handling, will be commuting to work mostly and my max speed would be 60 kmph, but on long tours speeds will go up. most of the time I will have my Wife with me, so the safety and the seating condition of the pillion rider is also important.

    Research--------------------------

pulsar 150 UG 4.5, they only give 1 year or 10,000 KM warranty. when I talk to a mechanic, he said the new pulsars get engine trouble after one year or so and that's common, given that there warranty is 10,000 KM I'm going to stay away from it.

Yamaha FZ - got to know it's a very comfy & low maintenance bike, but the budget does not allow me to get that.

Honda CB trigger - not a fan 7 also the budget is way over

    Suzuki Gixxer
    - loved the design & also the cost was OK, but the seating disappointed me. so no go there

Hero Hunk - a close call, love everything except the edgy design - still on the fence with this one

    Why I'm thinking of Apache-----------
this is the only bike that gives a warranty of 75000Km or 5 years, so they are damn sure of there bike, the new aggressive headlight is giving me a hard time! All the features and the fully digital instrument panel are the things I like. heard the stock TVS tires are not that grippy.

other than that, I wish to know what's your take on this?

    Query Approved

There is NO Apache 150. It is the Apache 160

For pillion comfort, the Unicorn 160 would make sense. So would the Hunk. Trigger production was stopped a long time back. The Pulsar is the Pulsar, all good and bad included.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Hero provides 5years or 70,000kms warranty for all its motorcycles.

Test drive the new hunk and make a decision.

      Hunk vs apache

      1. Plushier suspension than apache
      2. 50+ mileage assured on mixed riding conditions with careful use of throttle
      3.less vibrations than apache
      4. Slightly backward set foot pegs resulting in a comfortable posture compared to apache's extreme sporty posture.

Apache has got bigger 110 rear tyre while hunk comes with 100 section tyres. Performance is also better on apache with sporty grunt

If Hero is indeed giving 5 yrs/70k warranty, makes sense to get a bike from them since your daily running is high. As other have mentioned, other than the looks( Subjective), Hunk is a very good motorcycle with best suspension setup among 150 cc's. Hunk is even more comfortable to ride than Unicorn. Honda has relaunched Unicorn 150. You can check that that out as well. Uni is very reliable and would last you for a long time. I have owned one for 6 years without any issues.

Would suggest you to avoid Apache 160. Apache isn't the best bike around for tall riders like you and moreover Apache's are at it best when revved hard which im sure you are not going to indulge in. Apache's are also known for vibrations which may make you uncomfortable during long commutes.

I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Thank you, rode 12 . 6 km from dealership to home. have to take the bus until the registration is done and the number plates arrive. that 12.6 km was not in an enjoying mood, due to the new gear system (I was used to the all down, all up gears of my Discover 135 from the start).

getting the bus until things get settled, also looked for a security system, got a place.
