Re: Comfortable long lasting bike to run 160 kms daily

180 kms is too much to commute daily, you should prefer something from Honda's stable .
Have you test drove Unicorn? it is a reliable bike and comfortable too.

speaking of comfort , Avenger is a good buy too but i guess you wount prefer Bajaj after average performance of 220.
    200NS 25K kms / RE500 7k kms / Electra 30k kms / P150 80K Kms(SOLD) / i10 40k Kms (SOLD) / Tata NEXON 2K Kms

I would not buy Avy. Its the same as 220 and the cruiser set up is something I am looking to move from. The cruisers are difficult to handle in traffic
In the 150 and 160 range there are 3 options Uni 150, 160 and Hornet.
Have not test ridden the Uni 150 and Hornet
How about the Yammy Fazer 2.0. I would be tripping so I think the semi fairing would it help ?

        Hi Buddy,

I have been doing approx 80 kms on weekdays on my Gixxer for the last 2 yrs time.. So far done 40K on my bike..

Never done touring on it, but did a Chennai to Bangalore solo trip abt 350 Kms on a day, and i didn't feel any discomfort on the bike..

Am 5"9 and weigh 74 kgs and a reasonable slim profile..

Gixxer SF should meet your requirements very well.. Approx 45 kgs lighter than your TB. Full fairing should give you decent wind protection.. Take a test ride again on SF and decide..

        Good luck..

So, basically you're looking for a motorcycle to...
          - Ride 43200 Km a year
          - Spend Rs 21000 on service, Tires Rs 13000 & Rs 86400 on fuel (total Rs 120400)

And you're OK to spend over a lakh on operational cost which is more than the cost of the motorcycle itself in a year's time!!
Aargee sir you sure know how to take the FUN out of the riding
I'm glad that my maths is not very good or my Odometer would starve.

          Hello sidhartha

i see you already got a lot of options.
          love your TB btw.
I would have suggested to stick with cbr250 because of its comfortable sitting/cruising speeds.
Im not very sure of the 150cc bikes as they would increase the saddle time which in turn puts more pressure on your compromised neck muscles.

If you are lucky then some Cbr guy might be interested in an exchange offer.(keep your fingers crossed)

+ Do look for a lighter helmet, adjust your suspension settings to your weight and may be seat cushions would help to ease out the daily ordeal.

Finally i appreciate your effort to munch 160 kms everyday on RE.

          Cheers.
          ride safe.

I would say its actually easier munching 160 kms on a TB, provided the person does not have a neck issue like me.
I used to do the same on my 220 and had slight knees and calf muscle cramps, however the slight leaning forward posture did not create any issues with my neck.
CBR does seem to be a good option however its out of my budget. A used CBR is something I am not looking for, you never know its history..
If I were to finalise this I would go for a P220. It has munched a lot of miles on the highways without any issues. I gave up on my 220 because of a couple of reasons:
I was supposed to go to Ladakh this year with wifey and luggage hence RE.She has tripped with me a couple of times on the 220 but did no seem to have had the comfort factor. My AVL TB had spoilt her. Now the Ladakh plan is postponed to infinity and its me solo on the bike.
My 220 gave up on me at around 35k on the odo. It had lost its finesse. That prompted me to sell it in haste

              Hey

Yeah, in city roads 160 on TB would be a cruise except when stuck in traffic. But it doesn't do well on bad or non existent patches (i rode it to munsyari uttarakhand once).
I would have expected the P220 to last longer on quality care as you stated earlier.
Anyways, what are your thoughts regarding the Karizma ?
              Is your TB350 or 500?

              Cheers.

Ahh the old Karizma was in love with it ..but fate never got me to it, and finally it was stopped. Am still in love with the ZMA but now it has spares problems.
Mine is a TB 350 and yes its a breeze on the highways and open roads but needs a lot of patience in b2b traffic. The flickabiliy is good but cannot fit and sqeeze through tight spots. Its not bad on rough patches. Couple of trips one to Bhangarh through the Ajabgargh, Mad route and a route from Renuka ji to Paonta Sahib ( if anyone has been on this stretch, roads are craters ) its handled well, except the front bottoms out quick.

                  Hey

                  Im out of options now.
I find the suspension hard even at softest setting, but if you are comfortable then may be you can continue with the TB.
Do you carry any backpack on your way to office ? that will also hurt your neck no matter how lightweight it is.
Regarding the frequent rear punctures - i strongl recommend NOT to use tubes offered by the puncturewallahs - cheap knockoffs and paisa + time waste.
I have been a victim a far too many times and since then i keep a pair of genuine CEAT/MRF tubes handy.
                  Give it a try.

                  Cheers.

My laptop bag I tie to the back seat with a bungee cord so as not to create any load on the shoulders.
I am planning to maybe switch to alloys and tubeless or use slime in the tyres. There is a product in the market for tubed tyres

Buddy, i was in the same boat as you about 3 years ago. Had to maneuver through 120-140 kms of Hyderabad traffic every day 6 days a week for about 11/2 Years. I, had a 7 Year Old Honda Unicorn then which already had around 100,000 km on the clock and was running on its second bore & piston Unit. I ended up gaining new found respect for the "Honda Bullet Proof durability" during that period.

I would strongly suggest the Honda Hornet for your use, i test drove the same and walked away impressed. The Feather Light clutch is a blessing when you are stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. The NVH (Noise, Vibration & Harshness) levels are so subdued that you wont find yourself exhausted even after hours stuck in stop- go traffic. All this keeping in mind that it is more than well equipped to handle our Highways with stress free cruising abilities of 80-90 kmph for extended hours.

The contemporary rear section and the fresh looks of the Hornet make it a very well rounded package in my books

I, had an opportunity to upgrade from my Unicorn this year, after clocking over 160,000 kms on it and i went with a pre owned CBR 250R. Its a beautiful machine on its own, but i would be lying if i said that sometimes stuck in this ever increasing bumper to bumper traffic which seems like its never gonna end, i have second thoughts of whether i should have gone with the nimbler Honda Hornet instead.

I do think the Honda Machines are capable. Hornet being the new kid on the block.

The things about RE's are they have a long stroke engine which churn out that healthy torque. My TB does 80 at 3k which keeps the engine stress free. The engine feels the same way as to the day when the odo was 0 ( currently it is at 35k ). Egronomics is getting used to. This is my second TB and I am definately used to it. The difference is the AVL was purely used for the highways and the TBTS is a mix of expressways and B2B traffic. Like I had mentioned she surely streches her legs on the highways at ease and demands patience in traffic. For the neck problem there are different measures to have the same rectified.

I guess I will stick to my TB since I genuinely believe it can have the same feel to it post 2 lac kms on the odo ( which I believe I will cover soon ).

Precious comments from my wife when I contemplate out loud of changing the bike, " RE is like a second marraige. You have to live with her with the pros and cons. Its a lifelong relationship. Its not like the new chicks on the block who come and go and you get infatuated with. There is a good reason why RE has been there for more than 50 years, and point to ponder why you bought your second RE..."

Mods I guess the thread can be closed.
