  • RTR-Fi / FZ-16

Hi guys....gonna buy a bike mid-April. But i am confused among the options of RTR-Fi or FZ-16 . I m somehow trying to convince Dad to get any one of these bikes. (He's hesitant coz they both cost approx 75000 otr and insists it better be VFM coz he's stretced to his financial limits).
Some of my friends suggest FZ coz its new, sexy and a decent performer.
While others say go For the RTR-Fi coz it has Fi, rear disc etc....

I aint a tourer but not a commuter also...occassional trips of 100-200 kms will be done

Guys i am very much confused.....my priorities are
    1. performance n power(main criteria)
    2. handling (no vibrations, skidding etc)
    3. mileage (or my dad wont giv money for fuel)

Also FI being new technology wil i get problems in servicing near my home in a Castrol bike zone...can i trust them for FI....
FZ is a hassle free engineered product....but can that be said for TVS technology and engineering....my dad would kill me if the bike would give me any problems(i.e manufacturer) often....i think its a long story written...but please SENIORS and EXPERTS be gracious and help out of this dilemma.....

    Dhananjay a.k.a DeAdReNaLiNe.

    Thanks.

Both Performance wise and mileage wise RTR fi is way better than FZ .[after 60 kmph an fz cant even keep up with Fi let alone over take it]

Fz has better and wider tyres .

      Both bikes are good handlers
Fz has much more smoother engine than RTR

Fi is not that comlicated a tech. and there are no problems in servicing .

FI has better braking with rear disks as well .

comfortwise fz is better as RTR has sporty sitting posture and clip-ons and rear sets

thnx ARYAN for approving it so fast and Puneet for replying super fast.

Also RTR owners could you please tell me at speed the RTR starts vibrating...and a friend of mine says rear disc is not needed on indian roads..it will skid often...is that true????

          Given your requirements
          Fi has better power
          Fi has better fuel efficiency
Fi has matching handling (change the tyres as soon as possible)
Fi is also value for money, even at a streched budget.
Go for it it will be more exclusive too if You are not buying Yellow one
Never upgrade without getting your basics RIGHT.

if its your first bike or first 150cc bike go for FZ handles well and comfortable. if you plan touring etc for long distance and are a good rider go for Fi as RTR has raw power. As far as changing tyre you are already on stretched budget. In simple terms its a comparison between

Fz16 : Looks + better quality (apache is not bad at all) + lesser vibes
RTR FI : Everything else.. mileage, power, FI, rear disc, better rear seat, amazing sound etc

considering your case.. mileage is a big issue.. and the apache is atleast 5 kmpl more.. (correct me if im wrong)

                hope this helps

better would be to ride the bike.. take some 20-30 min rides and decide for yourselves

My vote goes to Fz... is a quick bike, reliable but down on mileage though

we've done this before umpteen times, you can check Confused between RTR and Fz , APACHE RTR 160 FI vs YAMAHA FZ 16 , Battle of Torque: R15 vs RTR vs FZ16 , and even this FZ-16, RTR or P180? Happy Biking!......

My vote for RTR FI because of it has VFM to the last penny you spend.
                    +ves
                    - Best in class performance
                    - One of the best handling
                    - Really goog mileage
                    - FI, Rear disc, clip on -- that too in a price equal to FZ

                    -ves
                    - vibes
                    - rear tyre problems on wet surfaces
                    ------------------------------------------------------

Even though my vote is for RTR FI, I do have a list of pros and cons for FZ too:
                    +ves
                    - Smoother engine(than rtr)
                    - Good low end torque
                    - Really good looks(except ugly handle as per me) and super duper cool rear tyre
                    -ves
                    - Comparitively low mileage
                    - Small rear seat specially for mother
                    - Not at all VFM .. at least 5k premium ..
                    - Everything you thing will look good on this bike .. is really expensive -- 1000+ seat cover, 2400 for forged brake and clutch levers, and so on .. it seems Yamahs want to encash its cashcow fully ..

if u have the cash, trade in the stock tyre immediately... else, run it till the monsoons... make sure you don't over-inflate the tyre, most skids are because of this. They tyre isn't that very bad either... though TVS themselves have agreed that it has this problem and that they have improved the tyre over the past two years - since the launch of the RTR.
