  • Urgent Remedy needed for my confused Mind - Which 600+ cc to go for ???

    Okay...

I am at peak of my confusion state. Atlast I have arranged the finance to buy myself a 600+ cc bike. But the problem has always been CHOICE.

My budget is limited to 9.5L out of which 7L is in cash and rest I am going to finance. There are not much vehicles in the range at present available in Chennai. Few to mention are Z800, Er-6n. I wish i could get my hands on Monster 821 (dont know when)

All 3 are of different cadres, Inline 4, Parallel twin and V-twin. My intended usage will be predominantly city (i.e.) Daily usage to office ~ 30kms round trip and occasional weekend travel (distance unknown). So CHOICE needs to be made considering CITY commute and traffic.

As long as it is has hassle free service and maintenance, I am ok to shell out 8k+ for expenses over 6 month period. Also, I will mostly be running the bikes with Shell Super or Shell Unleaded (preferably the former).

So, which one will suite my requirement or am i missing something here. Need your inputs before I end up doing something stupid.

PS: I havent TD Z800 yet, although I did TD N650.

    Thread approved!

Since your rides are mainly in the city, ER6N should do the job well.

Buy the Monster 821! Just because I want to see the ownership thread

Coming back, I think you cannot go wrong with the Z800. The bike is a torque monster with excellent city rideability and fun on twisties too. Moreover you will not be buying a bigger bike(probably) after this, so why buy a parallel twin when you can go for the inline 4 roar! If the Monster was available in Chennai, I would have definitely told you to go for it. It is an irresistible package of Italian exotica, superb dynamics and technology. And it fits your budget too!

True buddy. Initially i had the plans of getting an Inline-4, so Z800 was my immediate choice. But, when i saw the Red devil(in photo), I fell in love with it. I wish , Ducati opens it soon, atleast by next 3-6 months. I am just having less than 4 months to spend this money (wisely, as foretold by my parents ). And like you rightly quoted, I wont be making an upgrade after this buy atleast for the next 10 years (or forever), so why go for a parallel twin. But I guess DS should have some justification for that as why he suggested me ER-6n.
@Divya Sharan, why not Z800. Wont it do the same job as ER-6n. Just curious to know from you, since you were also eying for one.

I would suggest you to go for Z800, its has great torque at lower end, which is great for city traffic, not to say the sound is sweet. I love the monster, its damn sexy, but the cost of ownership is too high, at least that was what I was lead to believe. Also z800 is so smooth, I doubt Monster can match that.

Does any of your aquaintance owns one ? May be the stock sound of Z800 is not very bassy, under 4k, but beyond 6k its really sweet.

When your usage is city mainly & budget upto 9L approx then go for Street triple.
It has ABS as default. Great low end torque and perfect city ride. Street has 10k kms interval or a yr. It is close to 180 kg approx. Street triple is charm to handle due to its low weight and good torque or setting.

Z800 is heavier and struggles in city traffic. Z800 has an interval of 5-6k kms for service
Kawasaki 650n is parallel twin and not upto the class of z800 or street triple. 650n also has 6k kms interval. This is close to 233kgs apprx. Heavy bikes are always pain to handle in city traffic

My bet would be street triple unless you are mad about inline 4 & kawaki brand

Agreed to the core brother. But getting a Ducati is like getting a Ferrari (which I cant imagine of owning one in this lifetime, so its a Ducati red). Heart wants an Inline 4. So I may lean more toward the Zed. Striple is an awesome machine. Will definitely TD it atleast. But the bug eyes doesnt attract me much. Sorry

I have little to fair knowledge when it comes to large displacement motors on bikes. Based on reading specs and reviews here are my few cents considering your needs:

                    ER6n:
Pros:From spec sheet it seems that the ER6n has its max torque and power developing much earlier than in the Z800 (53.0 kW @ 8,500 rpm and 64.0 N.m @ 7,000 rpm), which is a good thing for city riding. ER6n is slightly lighter than Ninja 650R so I would not suggest the Ninja. Apart from the fairing Ninja and ER6n are identical. Will run on regular fuel. Shorter wheelbase (easy to handle in city).
Cons: I personally detest the looks of ER6n. No ABS. No way is it going to give you the feel of an inline 4.

                    Z800:
Pros: Z800 has ABS as standard. Though the peek power and torque comes at a later stage on the Z800 (83.0 kW @ 10,200 rpm and 83 Nm @ 8000 rpm), reports suggest the engine pulls well from low engine speeds. I believe it is because of short gearing. Also the top speeds of both the bikes are close (Between 220-230). Upmarket feel compared to ER.
Cons:Higher seat height compared to ER/Ninja. Weighs a lot more than ER (204 vs 231). From reviews it looks like its weight is biased towards the front and thus slow speed steering is difficult. Reviews also suggest the Z800 has a cramped seating position. In other words it is a street fighter. (Which also means it is going to be much more fun to ride on corners). Coming to the most important problem with the Z800, it needs RON95 fuel whereas the ER will run on our regular petrol(RON91). AFAIK, Shell Super is also RON91.

I would suggest you to have a look at Triumph Street Triple. Should fall within your budget. Will be as much fun as Z800 and has a sweeter sound. ABS (not sure if standard). Can run on regular fuel.
Another bike I could suggest is the Benelli BN600i but I don't trust DSK with its pathetic after sales support.
My vote goes for the ER. Street Triple would be a close second.

                        1. ER6N runs on normal fuel.
                        2. Power and torque come in much sooner.
                        3. Cheaper maintenance and spares compared to other bikes in your list.
                        4. Your usage does NOT warrant a 4 cylinder bike to be honest.
                        5. Aftermarket add ons are cheaper too.
                        6. Relaxed riding stance.

                        Biggest con is NO ABS.

Sent from my phone. Kindly avoid it while riding.

Wow. In a similar thought process as this thread's query for a while now, except that I don't have the money and that I will have a lot of out of town rides compared to city.

All I know is that when the money comes, I'll know which bike

Still, will follow this thread with keen interest.

My vote, at 9 lac budget would be Z800 and Striple. Then Monster.

Z800 is a logical choice as of now, if the triumph ST was priced right it could have been the top contender.
Monster 821, remove that from your list no doubt about performance, but after sales was horrible in the past, lot of Ducati owners were left on their fate..they had to struggle so much for spares and service and Ducati did not care about customers they had sold bikes to and when you plan to keep the bike for such a long period you can't trust Ducati..
Finally you have some time for your purchase you could just wait and watch Honda's pricing of their 650..
                              All the best..
